Why NYU?

"New York, New York, these streets were made for inspiring," Grammy-award winning Alicia Keys said, or sang, it best. Like Alicia, I am most intrigued by New York's ineffable way of inspiring millions everyday. For me, life has always been about experiencing the new and cherishing the past. Whilst I continue to cherish the past, I am always most enthusiastic about experiencing the new. Attending NYU truly represents everything and anything new (coincidentally, it's called "New" York University) from a perspective both as a complete newcomer to the state itself and a girl from a quiet town that mostly sleeps. It would mean drastic yet welcomed changes in my living arrangements, scenery, and most of all, culture. As an avid aficionado of music and fashion and inquisitive student, I am offered the most by NYU by being able to experience and study the style, music, air, and cultural background of America's melting pot just from one single area in the world with its strong focuses in culture and communication. It is also essential that as a person motivated most by creativity I stay stimulated within my environment. With the liveliness of the city itself, I find NYU's diversity and quantity of students along with its atmosphere most promising when selecting a university, as NYU is most notable for fostering some of the most creative minds and as the Steinhardt School alone accepts 7000 students yearly. With that many talented students, NYU most certainly makes a city that never sleeps.

What intrigues you? Tell us about one work of art, scientific achievement, piece of literature, method of communication, or place in the world (a film, book, performance, website, event, location, etc.), and explain its significance to you.

When I first heard the song "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robot" by the Flaming Lips, I was 10. Being most preoccupied with fractions and Nickelodean, I took it quite literally: about a girl simply battling evil robots. It was only until 3 years later that I took another meaning from the song: as an emerging teen indoctrinated by her family beliefs of "hard work = success", I somehow became Yoshimi believing that if I ever was going to be successful, I needed to "discipline my body" and fight off my "evil-natured" competitors. Next is what I find the most intriguing. At 18, I realize that Yoshimi has transformed yet again into my mother, a woman of 8 years not only struggling with diabetes and insulin shots but also disciplining her body to support our family financially. Thus, it is most interesting how a song written with originally one meaning can morph into so many for so many. Music is ultimately universal and I suppose this is because everyone somewhere battles his own pink robot.

Please briefly elaborate on one of your extracurrics or work in the space below (1000 character maximum)

If Charles Dickens was alive today and had a tale to tell, he would most likely blog about it. From the second I could type, I have been blogging continuously about fashion. As I had begun doing it for mostly leisure, I now find myself doing it as a job. Within the past couple of years, I have had many accounts with some of the most premier networks on the internet in pursuing blogging. Although I spend most school days tutoring, I spend every waking moment conjuring up ideas for an upcoming style video or post. Long hours are spent into designing blogs, editing videos, or styling the perfect outfits. However, the most fruitful part of blogging is not being able to do something I enjoy as work but to connect with and essentially inspire girls of all ages globally. Through producing videos and composing posts weekly, I am not only presented the opportunity to share my style with the world but also am able to gain much more, such as friendship and encouragement, from the world.

Any feedback would be appreciated! Thank you.

Hey! Thx for the reply. For your first prompt, try to focus less on "Why New York?" and make it more "Why NYU?" Do you get what I mean? Be more college specific. I had the same problem with mine. Good luck!
