'The orphanage that I volunteered at Nepal' - Short essay for common application

Please briefly elaborate on one of your extracurricular activities or work experiences in the space below (1000 character maximum).
I did not hear the expected applause.
The orphanage that I volunteered at Nepal had 11 boys. I had been preparing a presentation for 3 days. I included a lot pictures and data in my PowerPoint, to depict American college lives and the living standard of middle class Americans. They were smart kids who deserved to strive for better education and lives. Then I can introduce the process of taking Toefl and studying abroad. This should be life changing, I thought.

I did not hear the expected applause after my presentation.
One boy asked: "Do they have football field behind their houses?"
If you mean the vast field of swishing grass and unlimited wilderness, "No."
Another boy asked: "Can I still go hiking and watch the sunset after school?"
If you mean the breathtaking scene that the last silver of sunray disappeared behind the Everest, "No."
One more boy asked: "Can I still gad here and there if I work at Wall Street or the Valley you just said?"

"Silicon Valley...and, No."
They replied: "Then we still prefer Nepal."
I tried to change their world, but they changed mine.
What is better? Really?
If you can not change the world,you may as well smell the flowers.
