I am in my third year in pre-med, I want to transfer to another school and change my study course to dentistry. I am free to write of what i please....This is all i am able to come up with so far please help me!

Unlike many students, I was already sure of my goals by the time i was in the 10th grade. Not even the common stigma that " dentist are unaccomplished doctors" could deter me from my dream of becoming a dentist, an oral surgeon.

I used to be pre-med myself, and my stepfather is a dentist, so I've done my research on these two fields. What they're looking for is first whether you can survive medical or dental school academically, and second, why you over someone else. For the first requirement, I would recommend that you try to explain in your personal statement how you can handle a massive amount of science classes without being so cut and dry as to just list your grades (since they can read your transcript for that). Second, to set yourself apart from the rest, I'm not sure I would use something such as a "lifetime goal" of wanting to become X profession because it's rather cliche and I'm sure it's very overused. You want to appear to be unique...try to think of an opening that everyone else isn't already using.

Also, are you sure that you want to be a dentist? What about a doctor? Have you shadowed either? If so, talk about that in your statement and intertwine it with your scholastic abilities to make the case that you have made an informed decision and have the brains to back it up.

Lastly, a dentist is different from an oral surgeon. A dentist is someone who completed 4 years of dental school and received either a DMD or DDS degree (there really is no difference between the two). An oral surgeon is someone who holds both an MD and a DMD or DDS, hence why they are able to perform a lot of procedures/surgeries that dentists alone can't do. So be careful to not use oral surgeon and dentist interchangeably...they aren't the same.

This is some fascinating discussion from Tim. I'm privileged to gain this insight from you...

I hope you get inspired to write soon! I know it can be hard when you don't know what to say.

The most INTERESTING and IMPRESSIVE topic for your essay is a PLAN you have for the future. Don't be too philosophical, but instead present a specific, detailed plan.

Give the essay memorable theme by repeating one cool phrase from the intro when you write the conclusion.
Paste it here, and we'll help!

Thank You for all your advises, i thought it over and started a new essay. It is not complete, but please tell me what you think so far and please feel free to make corrections.

Ever since my junior year in high school, I had envisioned to become a dentist. Aside from the encouragement given by my family and friends, I realized that I had a longing to expand the knowledge and little training acquired during my volunteer work over the summers.( i haven't completed this paragraph yet!)

Unfortunately, after my high school graduation I was faced with hard financial problems that had forced me to attend the nearest college, University Quisqueya, and choose from the majors it had to offer. This has not, in any way, deterred me from pursuing my professional goals.( an other incomplete paragraph)

My reasons for transferring are mostly academic. At Quisqueya I have studied with wonderful professors, and made good friends. However, I do have non-academics reasons for wanting to attend Howard. I am fascinated with how each student is socially involved both on and off campus, the diverse possibilities of extracurricular activities, and most of all I am looking forward to experience other environments that are not as similar to my own.

Greetings!
I believe you made the right decision by starting your essay over. Although admission essays typically aren't that vital in the admissions process (in regard to dentistry), they can tip the scale. I have a few recommendations: 1) You need to be more passionate. 2) Why have you envisioned yourself as a dentist? 3) Speak about a specific instance that made you want to transfer

I hope this helps. Good luck!
