Prompt: Please provide a statement (appr. 250-500 words) that addresses your reasons for transferring and the objectives you hope to achieve.
When first applying to universities during my senior year of high school, New York City had not even been the slightest thought in my mind. Having lived in Westchester County for much of my life, my main goal was to move far away from my hometown, gain a sense of independence, and witness bigger and better things than what I had been around. University at Buffalo seemed like a good place to go; it was far away and had a somewhat city environment and a large campus. After going to a boarding school of just 150 kids total, I loved feeling like a small fish in a giant pond. It was a good change for me. It's not that I don't like UB, I just believe that there are more opportunities that I simply cannot take advantage of while at school there. UB has made me realize that I would eventually like to pursue a career in law, and what better place to be than the city with the best law firms. I need to be around the best to become the best, and I believe that New York University is where the best are. New York is where I need to be to achieve the best degree in English, intern in a firm during the summer, and eventually attend Law School. The city is full of opportunity and NYU is where I can take full advantage of all the opportunities surrounding me. I have done well at UB and I know that I can meet the academic challenges of NYU. NYU matches my academic interests and professional goals incomparably, and would make me grow into a better person than any other university ever could.
Thoughts??? Thank you!
