Ok guys, I need some assistance on the topic for UTSA. I have some ideas already but im still stumped on how to go about this essay.I really want to get in at UTSA to attain my engineering degree. If anyone had to do or helped someone with a similar situation like mine, I would really be thankfull if anyone could point me in the rite direction!
The topic is:
You have the opportunity to choose three influential people to be your professors during your first year at UTSA. These three people can be family members, friends, public figures, or someone from your school/institution. Who would you choose, what subjects would you have them teach, and why? (100-250 words)
Well you could just write three different paragraphs for the three different people you choose. This would have each paragraph stand on its own and they would not be connected to each other.
That may be to risky, however. You might want to find out what these 3 people all have in common for you. Think about what makes people into good teachers, from your experience, and how the people you picked share these characteristics. This would allow you to write an intro paragraph talking about all 3 and their "common" attributes and then the 3 body paragraphs that elaborate on each person individually.
Is 100-250 words the limit for each person, or for all three? If it's the latter, you're going to be writing one paragraph in which you explain who each person is and why you picked them in 2-3 sentences. That would mean that it would be easier to pick three people with three separate attributes. That way, your thesis could be "The best teachers are people who possess _____, ____, and ______." with each blank being a quality or attribute that makes teachers effective. The three people you pick then become your examples proving each point.
Cool topic! I would choos one faculty member from this school to which you are applying, even though that is not your intention. In theory, you are applying to this school because the people from whom you want to learn are the faculty members there!
I would also choose an inspirational figure -- if it were me, I would choose Deepak Chopra. You should choose an inspirational figure from the field you are interested in!
If you include those two, I think it is cool to choose the 3rd straight from the heart. Be honest. Who would it really be?
for example, if you choose 1.) a prof who teaches the subject you want to pursue, 2.) Barack Obama for his eloquence and idealism, and 3.) someone from your family, it will make you seem sincere and serious.
