Next to generation X is the generation Y or millennials, which is a person born in the years ranging from 1980 to 2000. These people grow up in the midst of change and values of the difference between the generation of grandparents and parents, but it took the advance of technology and the Internet to insert in daily life.
Back in the day kids used to play outside all day because there was just nothing else to do. Now instead of going outside to play, kids can stay inside and play basketball or do play anything they want on a Xbox. Everything has changed.
Today many of us use the life on the social network and social media more every day but to say or to ask what does 'social media' mean, many people cannot answer this question, and also they do not know how to describe it. Social media or social network is exchanging personal information and experiences while maintaining relationships online. It is done through interactive websites where people submit photos and disclose background information for specific people to see. They also carry on conversations both in real time and non-real time by way of private and public messages. Millennials use a variety of social networks for news and information, especially Facebook. By the end of 2015 Facebook had 1.581 billion monthly active users. Active users who signed on at least once each day were an astonishing 1.038 billion people. If your kids have teased you that "Facebook is for old people" they are not exactly right, but the majority of adults (72 percent) who are online visit Facebook at least once a month. However, young folks do use Facebook and in no small numbers -- 91% of millennials (individuals age 15-34) also used Facebook in 2015.( Lahle Wolfe)
Five years ago, YouTube was just getting started, Twitter or MySpace was the most popular website in many countries, and Facebook was still limited to college and high school students. Mobile was mostly an afterthought, as we were still more than a year away from the introduction of the iPhone and the idea of an app store. In the past people use social media less than the present. Also, they did not even know how to use it as well.
According to the Pew Research Center, which has tracked social media stats from 2005-2015, nearly 2/3 of Americans use social media sites, about the same as the world in general. What's really interesting to note about social media usage in the U.S., however, is that there's been a tenfold increase of adults using social media in the last ten years. 2005 is around the time when social media was just beginning to take off. It has grown steadily, and even exponentially, since that time.
It's also interesting to note the increase in older users. Social media was originally considered the online realm for young users, teens and young adults primarily. This was certainly true of MySpace, the first giant social network. Since that time, social media usage has increased dramatically among all age groups, including seniors. "In 2005, only 2 percent of seniors used social media; in 2010, that figure was 11 percent. By 2015, it had jumped to 35 percent." (Rihanna)- this shows us how people use and consume social media.
Social Media is an important in connecting with other people. You got to appreciate it whenever you have friends, relatives who are miles away from you. With social media, you got to interact and know what is happening on them. Social media is pretty important but also depressing and dangerous.
Social media is important because you can easily catch up with friends with their statuses, photos and videos they post. And social media is not just important for your personal life, it is also a great tool for businesses or anyone trying to develop their professional network or look for a job. On the other hand, social media is also dangerous because of the privacy concerns that it causes. Many of us are giving away information such as names of family members, birthday, address, phone number and other information in an effort to be cool. All this information is really making us transparent. It also allows many of us to open our information to others. By doing so, "secret questions" for banking and other things can be hacked or our computers can be placed with a virus by so-called phishing. Children, teenager, and their parents are not aware of the responsibility involved with being able to talk to anyone with no protect. They are lured to child pornography or kidnapping by social networking. For example, it is easy to make someone go out with a stranger with whom they have only communicated online, if you are not smart enough, you might get kidnapped by someone that you don't know who they is.
When I was in Thailand, someone told me that the Thai and American education systems are kinds of similar. They begin with kindergarten and preschool, then move through the 12 grades of study over 12 calendar years of elementary and secondary education before graduation. Students are required to take different subjects from English and Thai to math and science. However, after I have been in America for one year, I have noticed that the two education systems are very different. Don't you wonder why I came here?
The American school our grade is based heavily on homework assignments. Experience and actual hands-on work also rank supreme in American education system. In contrast, in Thailand, a grade is typically based on performance tests and exams. Around eighty percent of our course grade is based on mid-term and final exams. Only five to ten percent is based on homework assignments. In my opinion, studying in America is easier than in Thailand, but sometimes it can be frustrating due to the workload.
Also, in America if the students have questions they can email the teachers and talk to them or even they want to send the homework assignment. On the other hand, in Thailand, if the students want to ask something after school or even they have some questions, they cannot send email to the teachers except go to the teacher's room and ask them in person. For me, I like to send the email better because when I have a question on the weekend I can ask them via email.
The problem about education in Thailand is Thai students are not taught to think for themselves so have no critical thinking skills. At government schools, more than 50 students in a class are the norm. Half the kids just sleep through class, as the teacher doesn't notice if they're listening or not.
Also, the English language at Thai schools has its own problems, they are taught grammar, reading and writing but many have no idea what they are reading or writing. When I was in elementary school I always remember the word "rubber", but when I was in high school, the teacher said, "You have to use the word eraser". I did not know why I couldn't use the word rubber which is the same word as eraser. Now I know why I cannot use the word rubber instead of the word eraser because I have been taught the word rubber by a British teacher, but I have been taught the word eraser by an American teacher. This is kind of a big problem that happens in Thailand education.
Same-sex marriage also known as gay marriage is marriage between two persons of the same biological sex or gender identity. Legal recognition of same-sex marriage or the possibility to perform a same-sex marriage is sometimes referred to as marriage equality or equal marriage, particularly by supporters.
In the past it was illegal for the Lesbian or Gay couples who want to marriage. But now in Thailand , it is legal for Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) couples who want to marriage. There are no laws against homosexuality as there are in many countries.
In the United States of America, same-sex marriage has been legal nationwide since June 26, 2015. (CNN) Married same-sex couples will now enjoy the same legal rights and benefits as married heterosexual couples and will be recognized on official documents such as birth and death certificates.
Same sex marriage is allowed in the U.S. because, for one thing, all 50 states have legalized it. Though not many people believe it's right, when you make it illegal to marry the person they love, you're taking away their human rights. Which people have no right to take away from each other. Being gay, or a lesbian or bisexual isn't a choice, it's apart of how someone was born, it's not a disease, so it has no cure. It's just love plain and simple.
Nevertheless, some people think it is wrong to support Lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender. Some people think, there is a reason why their is a man and women God did this for a reason. They also do not believe that someone is born gay they get influenced by people around them. Like their friends or family. They believe this is wrong and like they said there is a reason why God has made a male and female. He did this so you can have kids. And if you are both female or both make you cannot have kids so this is why some people believe it is wrong.
In last five years, many things have changed. Nowaday, we are spending more time inside the house than we are outside. The time spent on the computer, or television. It is about 8 hours a day. This time is usually spent alone and not with the rest of the family. With all the technology we have nowadays we don't need to get out of the house anymore, you can do everything from the comfort of your home. Almost everything revolves around technology now. Social Media is an important in connecting with other people but also depressing and dangerous when you chatting or talking with the stranger. Education in Thailand and America is extremely different. And now same sex marriage is legal in Thailand and also in America.
