Hi all,
This is my first posting. I couldn't imagine that it took so long to write one essay for IELTS.
Hope I write it in shorter period in near the future.
Thank you in advance.
Should education and healthcare be free of charge and funded by the government, or should it be the responsibility of the people to pay for these services?
As many countries have struggled to solve their financial problems these days, arguing over education and healthcare spending is not exceptional any more. The main point is whether or not the government should spend its tax revenue to maintain free education and healthcare systems.
First of all, take a look at the argument that people should pay for these service depending on their demand. The central to the supporting arguments of this idea is that using tax revenue to these systems is unfair. These days many people exercise more or less on a regular basis to maintain their better life. As a result this attitude leads them not to be ill and go to hospital. Therefore, these healthy people believe that those go to hospital just keep their hands in pockets. Also, it is true that some people likes studying and some don't. Those who support this idea wonder why the government spend its tax revenue to those children who do not want to go to school. It is a waste of tax revenue.
On the other hand, the supporters who want the government to keep these systems argue the importance of education and health for remaining country's economic power and safety net. To sustain the economic power of the country, people should be health and well-educated. If people are not healthy, they cannot work. If people are not well-educated, the country cannot follow advanced technologies and compete with other countries. Better education and healthcare are the only tool to make the country's economic level competitive. Besides, the government supported education and healthcare function as a safety net. In many countries, poverty becomes one of the biggest issues that need to solve as soon as possible. If education and healthcare are not free, poor will not be able to use these systems and it expand the gap between the rich and the poor more and more. Education and healthcare play a big role to eliminate these gaps.
So where does the truth lie? I turn thumbs up the latter ideas. I believe that people should not be evaluated by their. Free education and healthcare provide all the equal chance to succeed in their life and eventually that will lead the country to new progress. With lack of the equal chances in the country it seems inevitable that the country miss out the chance which maintains its economic level.
