Compare the advantages and disadvantages of three of the following as media for communicating information.
State which you consider to be the most effective.
-comics
-books
-radio
-television
-film
-theatre
With the advancement of science and technology, media is more flourishing than ever before. Information can be easily transmitted through variety of means. Still, among all media, I regard books as most effective for communicating information.
Some may argue that TV is superior to books, since it can update the audience with the latest news happening around the globe. It is indeed marvelous. However, though TV covers a wide range of issues, it fails to offer detailed interpretation and analysis. Recently I have learned from TV that the low employment rate is still bothering Europe, especially Spain. While by reading a book, I figured out how this problem distressed numerous European families and lowered their expectations for life. So, it is obvious that books discuss problems in depth and offer more detailed information.
Compared with other media, comics are widely loved for its simplicity and humor. They are inspired by social phenomena and try to represent them in a sarcastic way, bringing out laughters from the readers and leave them to reflect. But after all, comics only convey rather limited information. While books are different; one can always find everything he or she may possibly be interested in by referring to books.
Books have long been existed in human history, and are one of the most ancient media for communicating information. Yet, they are not outdated and will never be. Today, new media is springing out and bringing convenience to everyday life. Even so, none of them can be as effective and indispensable as books are.
