It is a paragraph, Are Zoos morally wrong?

It is a paragraph ...)

A zoo is a place where animals and birds are kept for exhibition. In the zoo, we can watch in details the life of each animal or bird. Plus, we can find and recognize some rare species of birds such as the red cardinal, and we can watch some endangered animals such as the panda. Many people disagree with the idea of zoos and they think it is morally wrong. Yet, I believe zoos are not morally wrong as some people think, because we can learn many things from zoos, and I consider a zoo as a convenient place to take care of animals.

Animals in the zoo are considered as a sample of education for children. For instance, when children go to the zoo and see how the animal live, they will not forget them. They are going to learn how they live, what they eat, and how they interact with each other. Also, many attributes can be learnt from animals in the zoo. We can learn about corporation from bees, and affection from watching the way the mothers of baboons act towards their babies. In addition, it improves the sense of our responsibilities towards animals. When we decide to preserve an animal, we are going to treat it properly because we have noticed that in the zoo.

Besides, since there are many extinct animals which need more attention and care to stay alive and live peacefully, zoos are the proper places to take care of them. Zoos are the only place where we can protect endangered species. For example, the panda is an endangered species which could have been in a bad situation if the zoologists had not taken care of them. Needless to say, that many animals have been found wounded or injured in the wild then had the opportunity to be cared for and brought back to health and were able to live again because of the professional and specialist care they received in the zoo.

In brief, zoos are places where we can learn something from as well as a suitable place to take care of animals. In my opinion, zoos are a very important place which represents the natural world. Zoos not only awaken the sense of curiosity in our personalities but also give us the opportunity to preserve the animals left in the world.

Hi Nesreen

I like the sample of information you present. Is this supposed to be an essay? or a paragraph?

I think you need to clarify that morally, it is not wrong to keep animals at a zoo despite the fact that they are penned up in captivity. If possible talk more about how zoos improve people's sense of responsibility.

many endangered* animals ... to stay* alive and live peacefully, a* zoo
you can somewhat improve your conclusion, but overall, your argument makes sense. just try to make it stronger. how does what you presented relate to the MORAL issue?

I can understand what side of the argument you are on, but I believe your support needs to be more concrete. The part about the treatment of zoo animals and relating it to house hold pets should be left out. I would discuss the protection of endangered species, and give a specific example of a group of animals that are in recovery because of the protection. I would discuss how some zoo animals were found wounded and healed back to health, but they were no longer able to survive in the wild, so they were placed in a zoo for their own well being. Also, discuss the importance of examining these creatures upclose because it allows agencies to be able to protect and understand what the animal needs to survive. Zoos give us a sense of curiosity, and a need to preserve the animals left in the world.

I hope this helps.

Moreover, many things can be learnt from animals in the zoo. We can learn about community from the bees and about affection from watching the way the mothers of baboons act towards their babies.

Secondly, it improves the sense of our responsibility towards animals. -----I guess this is sort of true. We see the animals and it makes us want to preserve their natural habitats... even though these animals do not get to live in their natural habitats.

I guess this essay would be better if you gave more discussion of the counterargument, so you can show that it actually is not cruel.

But relly, it is cruel, right? Maybe you want to argue that it is JUSTIFIED.
Also, you might want to call it a "necessary evil," because the benefits outweigh the drawbacks.

If you learn the fundamental principles of utilitarian ethics, it can help you make your argument. Just google utilitarian ethics.

For the record, i disagree, ha ha. I hate zoos. I hate seeing birds in cages, especially. What dark irony to keep a bird in a cage... :-)

I love going to the zoo, but I hate looking at their sad faces, I can hear them say, we want food, we want freedom

you mean in this sentence I should write this

I believe there should be no zoos, or if there was a zoo, it should be an open zoo

Yet, I believe zoos are not morally wrong as some people think, because we can learn many things from zoos, and I ...

It is difficult to make this point, because you say the fact that we can learn things makes it so that it is not morally wrong. You could learn things by imprisoning me and making me explain about grammar and composition, but that would be morally wrong. You can't say that the fact that we benefit from something (i.e. learn many things) makes it morally acceptable.

One great argument you make is that some species are endangered and we are about to protect them. That is a good way to make this argument.

Your last paragraph is pretty nice!! Yes, overall I think this would be improved if you argue about protecting endangered species and argue that zoos can care for animals without making them suffer and without keeping them in solitude.

:-)
