Seeing people smoke disgusts me. I see people outside every gas station, restaurant, and grocery store smoking. I have to wade through a cloud of smoke to make it into any establishment. Although, smoking is a right, it is also an inconvenience to non-smokers exposed to the dangersand risks to their health and to the health of their children.
Some smokers have no respect for non-smokers and children around them. Recently, my family experienced this when we went to a Waffle House with my daughter who was born three months premature and had to use oxygen. While inside, we were seated, at our request, in the non-smoking section. After we had placed our orders and gotten our food, a young couple came in and was seated in the smoking section, one table over. They looked over, inquired about my daughter's oxygen, told me how beautiful she was and preceded to light up. I was shocked, but instead of making a scene, I simply asked if we could be moved to another table. The waitress was very rude and informed me that we could not move and we were already in the non-smoking section. When I told this story to other members of my family, many of them had the same thing to say. They said if I knew there was smoking allowed in a certain establishment, then I shouldn't go in there. I was completely shock at this. Was it not my right to be able to enjoy a meal in any restaurant I choose.
