The statement suggests that students should question what they are taught in schools, colleges and even by their parents. They should not accept it without giving any thought or reason. It is the responsibility of the parents and teachers to incubate the habit of argumentation and reasoning at an early age. Questioning helps in understanding the problems as well as the reasons behind the solutions. This builds up the problem solving skills. This inturn helps in improving the self confidence and making them think independently.
A habit of finding reasons has to be imbibed in the child through his day-to-day interaction in schools, at home, etc. It is the responsibility of the parents as well as teachers to pursue the child to always ask questions. Also we should encourage when the child, when he himself enquires about different things. We should patiently answer the questions and as a repercussion he would be further encouraged to ask more questions. This in mind, we should also make them understand the notion of asking the "right" questions to get enough information about a subject at hand.
That said, what does questioning means? Questioning involves understanding the problem, and the reasons behind its solution. Whenever someone tells us to do something or proposes a solution to a problem, argumentation and reasoning skills will help us know why we should do it. By asking the right questions, we seek the information on the matter and start applying thought on the possible solutions. We then compare our own solutions with the what is being told or taught. This helps us broaden our understanding of the problem.
Questioning skills are as important as learning to walk or speak. When the child is young, he learns many new things which he is not able to reason or understand. He accepts whatever is taught blindly. If the child grows up with this same notion, he will be always dependent on the teachers and parents for advice. When faced with a different problem than what is taught, he will be helpless and is then susceptible to trickery. Habit of understanding the reasoning what is taught at an early age will make the child ready for any kind of real world problems he will face in the future.
Good argumentation skills help improve the self confidence. It helps them think independently. This is very important for the betterment of society. Independence in thinking is the very basis of democracy. People who can think independently are able to voice their opinion and problems. They can themselves work on the solution rather than waiting for the government or society to help them. Accepting anything passively will lead to a servile society which depends on the government or society for every problem.
