A full moon happens when the sun, the Earth and the moon are all lined up in a row which is called a syzygy. When the full moon is at the point in its closest point to the Earth, supermoon occurs. This particular phenomenon, the supermoon, would be 356,511 kilometres from Earth - the closest it has come since 1984. Supermoons are approximately a third larger in area and 30 percent bright than the full moon in the furthest orbit. This phenomenon will occur again in 16 October and 14 December 2016.
