Statement of Purpose
I was 14 when, my uncle got something that changed my life: a computer for his office work .I must admit that it is somewhat by accident that I found myself driven towards the field of Computer Science. So after a successful career in IT Industry I intend to pursue my MS in Management Information Systems at the xxxxxx university of xxxxx in order to build my research skills and work towards my interest in computer visualization, Data Mining and Software Engineering.
After completing my bachelor's degree in Computer Science & Engineering, I was interested in joining the Information Technology industry. So I pursued my dream by helping my uncle in his company with the website designing work & job search. Very soon I got a job as Systems Engineer with Infosys Limited. Working with Infosys was both challenging and rewarding.
Information technology (IT) has become a vital and integral part of every business plan. From multinational corporations who maintain mainframe system and database to small business that own a single computer, IT plays an important role. Storing data is only a benefit if that data can be used effectively. Progressive companies use that data as part of their strategic planning process as well as the tactical execution of that strategy. Management Information System (MIS) enables companies to track sales data, expenses and productivity levels. The information can be used to track profitability over time, maximize return on investment and identify areas of improvement.
Companies are using IT to improve the way they design and manage customer relationships. Management Information Systems can help you make valid decisions by providing accurate and up-to-date information. Management Information System (MIS) is a managerial decision making tool. A company uses it in all of its business operations and processes. Using it, a company is able to record & document all facts pertaining to its procedures and methodologies. The basic intent is to manage and control all of the company's employees and material through MIS. Using an MIS, an organization is able to establish its hierarchical structure and work-flow charts. There are numerous pluses in using an MIS. The organization records and tabulates all its key strategic functions. As and when deviations from the planned course happen, the organization is able to take corrective action on it.
MIS is a perfect blend of managerial skills and technical skills which are of due importance in today's world. In order to be successful a person must not only possess skilled knowledge on a particular area but the person must also have managerial skills. MIS gives a person both of these skills. The data an organization needs to maintain is increasing rapidly and maintaining this ever increasing data is becoming a very difficult task. Keeping track of every minute detail is not possible with the traditional system of maintaining the data. MIS gives us a wider perspective of using and maintaining this data. Wherein we can easily access and use whatever information is needed.
In this rapidly changing world of Engineering and Technology where each day we see a new concept and application and the passing day makes them obsolete. The ever increasing field of applications with management always fascinates me so I want to continue my academic pursuit in this direction.
In my undergraduate major field of study I have benefited from the Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University syllabus content which has given me a detailed exposure to the core areas of Computer Science and Engineering and a strong technical understanding of the same. It was my childhood from when I had a big fantasy of electronic gadgets coupled with a dream of being a skilled programmer. This is why I choose Computer Science and Engineering as my major field of study in my undergraduate degree. My undergraduate major field of study gave me a comprehensive exposure to fulfill my dream. The curriculum was exhaustive and it was more than enough to give any one a detailed knowledge of any subject. But being an engineer is not something that I wanted to reach to, but I always wanted to reach highest altitudes possible.
It was Data Warehousing & Mining (DWM) a subject from my undergraduate major field of study which I liked the most. Data Warehousing & Mining being a subject which gave a broad perspective to understand how it helps organizations to understand the nature and policies of customers. How organizations can easily manage their large number of customers and helps to manage the customers and gives you a strengthened understanding of Customer Relationship Management (CRM). It was this subject which generated an attraction for MIS in me. Another subject was Software Engineering and Project Management (SEPM) which helped me to understand how organizations work on different projects and the management required to work on a project. It was by these few subjects I was badly inspired to get into MIS as MIS is a perfect mixture of business intelligence and business technology.
My final year project Two Level Graphical Authentication against Key Loggers Spyware was something I designed with my group in response to provide security to an individual's personalized data. Now-a-days with the increasing use of e-mails for communication people access their personalized data sometimes even at public places with a high risk of the account being hacked and data being misused. The project was thus something I designed with my group in order to provide maximum security to an individual's personalized data so that individual's can easily access their personalized data whenever they want to without the fear of losing it. Going through the project I got to learn one thing for sure that being technically sound in not all that you need but having managerial skills is of utmost important. It helps you understand the different challenges, different problems you encounter and lots more a person needs to go through while designing a project.
I always had a ever increasing interest in management so too learn the most possible skills I could I got an opportunity to be a part of a five day training program on Business Excellence by Government of India Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises -Development Institute, Nagpur in which I got to learn the various managerial skills to a good extent and to keep myself practiced and tuned to this skills I always kept participating as a coordinator in various events occurring in our college from time to time. I worked as a default core-comity member of Datta Meghe Institute of Engineering Technology and Research, Wardha. Where in I learned to manage the always increasing work load and work pressure how to get going through it and give the best out of it. Also I was elected as the Treasurer of the departmental comity for the department of Computer Science and Engineering wherein we organized events of the department it also helped me to brush up my managerial skills.
In the later course of time after completing my graduation I was looking an opportunity to enhance my skills and to excel in them it was then when I got a job offer from the countries one of the biggest software giant Infosys Limited in February 2014. And for the last 1.6 years have been trained in information technology. I am adept in JAVA/J2EE, Siebel and presently hold a designation of Systems Engineer, currently working on a project with aaaa, aaaa. Prior to this I have worked on a few more projects which include xxx, xxx & yyyy, yyyy. I could notice a change in my approach of working on any task after being relieved from the first project and as time passed my approach went on being finer and finer. As in all this above projects we had to work very closely with the continuously changing requirements and new demands also coming in at the same time from the client side and with the pressure from the onsite team to deliver it on time. These projects taught me how to manage my work load and also how to maintain your temperament when things don't seem to go your way and then how to turn things on your side by managing your work pressure. When I started working on the new project I found myself very changed as could use the learning's from the previous projects very swiftly in my new project and without any issues I was able to deliver the best out of me.
Finally I take this opportunity to thank you for enabling me to express myself and I look forward for my admission into the Masters in Management Information Systems (MS in MIS) program of your esteemed university.
