I would like to apply for University of texas at dallas and southern methodist university. I have prepared a SOP would like your reviews about it. Thank you. very much appreciated. Please bring to my note any mistakes and changes i have to make.

"Concern for man and his fate must always form the chief interest of all technical endeavours ... Never forget this in the midst of your diagrams and equations".

To skim through these quotes daily, said by one of the greatest minds ever, made my mind incline towards a goal that thrives in achieving perfection in whatever field I choose. Basically interested in anything amazing in my vicinity, my enthusiasm towards electronics geared attention when my 9th grade teacher explained us the complete phenomena behind the working of a radio. The meticulous attention needed to be paid to the components to get an undistorted output amazed me. It was then, when I decided that I would pursue a career in the abundant field of electronics. My goal is to develop into a proficient electrical engineer with profound knowledge and to productively translate the technical cognition into practicable applications that will benefit the society. I aspire to pursue Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering with specialization in Digital Signal Processing, at your university.

After deciding at a very early age about my career I paid ardent attention to physics and mathematics, the basics to electronics. After identifying my inherent attention to physics, I was selected to attend a inter school science exhibition by my physics teacher where we had to do a project which focused on using acoustics to produce energy. My part was to convert the input to a stabilized output which gave me firsthand experience on how to construct a fully functional circuit. After graduating high school with 93 percent I got admitted in an institution which was well renowned for its academic excellence and stood first among all other colleges in my state within the first year of its inception. My quest for electronics followed me to college which was why I chose electronics and communication engineering as my field of expertise. I also enrolled at The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE), becoming an active member and constantly updating myself keeping at par with the competitive world.

During the course of my undergraduate study I was exposed to various courses with applications like Electromagnetic field, Linear Integrated Circuits, Electronics Circuits, Pulse and digital circuits, Digital Signal Processing, Micro processors & Micro Controllers which formed the base for my well sculpted Undergraduate. Out of the box thinking was always one of my strongest aspects which enabled me to learn lots of new stuff progressively. Without being content of what was being taught in college I always ventured into the open to learn about the innovative inventions we encounter in our everyday life.

One such technical venture was to the Global Media workshop in Chennai, home to South India's best visual and sound effects designing. The use of Digital Signal Processing to create exemplary music astonished me. My enthusiasm to plunge deep into the field of electronics gained greater velocity. My next visit was to Prasar Bharati (Doordarshan), India's largest public broadcaster. We were brought to light about the various baseband systems employed in the reception and transmission processes. The use of various transmitters in different bands and the methods employed to attenuate the distortions gave us a brief idea about the Antenna and Wave propagation system which proved very useful in my 3rd year.

To further enhance my knowledge I underwent an Industrial visit at BSNL, a government owned company which is the largest provider of fixed telephony in India. There I was exposed to the various innovations in telecommunication systems ever since the advent of telephones. Even a working model of the obsolete relay based switching system was there which provided me with a shrewd insight of how archaic telephone switching system performed. All these experiences developed in me a keenness to know more which led me to do a proper course about Networking and Routing protocols in "HCL". I learned in detail about the Hardware architecture of a computer and also the Networking protocols encountered in our day to day life.

The four month long course also provided an in-depth introduction to "Cisco" routers and configuring protocols followed by Cisco, one of America's largest public networking equipment manufacturer. The IOS used in Cisco routers and the protocols followed to configure them lent me an insight of how global routers work and the complex mechanism involved behind the working of Internet. As a result I gained practical experience on how routers and switches work on a global scale and the necessary knowledge to configure them based on the various requirements.

Deeply kindled by my zest for electronics I spent the spare time in my home designing small electric circuits like smoke alarm, infra red door alarm and some other wireless circuits. For this I had to learn a lot about the various components involved and this gave me an overall idea about the electric circuit I was working upon. Very soon this became my hobby and I started designing my own circuit. I found this very intriguing and approached my professor to enhance my talents. After admitting that my efforts were laudable, my professor provided me with chances to attend several competitions in an effort to bring out my true potential and also for the most important purpose of gaining Knowledge.

During my final year I was assigned a team and asked to do a mini project on any topic of my own interest. Robots were one of my intense childhood fantasies and hence I decided to work on a "Photovore robot". As head of my team, I had to work on the project from the ground up and learnt a lot along the way. A brief intro on visual basic was required as it served as the interface between the software and hardware for my project. A deep insight of the mechanical motors was also necessary as the key purpose of the robot was to navigate both forwards and backwards following a light source.

It was during my last semester when I was faced with a challenge of coming up with a final project which would decide the outcome of my final semester grades. I decided to address a problem which was so commonly prevalent in the Indian election process, the casting of votes which was always deemed apocryphal. I always believed that the true purpose of technology was to serve mankind and to provide a world which would be devoid of any defects or a world with zero loopholes. A project on "3-tier authentication of electronic ballots using image processing" was very much appreciated and fetched me top grades in my class. While working on this project I developed a special liking towards signal processing and hence decided to pursue my masters in Digital signal processing.

I would also, at this juncture like to pinpoint the fact that I have been widely recognized for my leadership qualities too when I was selected to host the inauguration of the IETE forum in my college and also as an event coordinator at a national level technical symposium hosted by my department. I consider my analytical aptitude and my ability to grasp information quickly a valuable asset. Although I have gained much knowledge in Electronics during this entire journey from school to the college, the gamut of knowledge that still remains to be explored is boundless. I strongly believe that a graduate study at University of Texas at Dallas is the best way that can really help me achieve my goal. I wish to gain a more global perspective and expand my horizon to international standards in a more specialization oriented curriculum. I also find that my goal is in line with the universities' principles and if selected would utilize the fullest of my resources to serve the ultimate purpose of gaining extensive knowledge that would be beneficial to the society.

Hi,

I find everything is written very well.... However, I only doubt whether it is too long for a SOP! It's pretty long, isn't it?

- You have many superfluous words within your sentences. If you go through one sentence at a time, and take those out, it would be easier to read, basically, the adjective and adverbs phrases,

Look for very long sentence and see which parts you are re[eating yourself

Content is very strong, so you do not have to keep emphasizing the same things. It will sound more crisp and easier to recall your achievements.

Good luck.
