Dear Admission Committee,
Computing and problem-solving have always been my strengths. I liked including them in every area possible including academic, gaming and business-related aspects. Now my country XYZ needs it in the ongoing depletion of the conventional energy sources and the emission of some dangerous gases, resulting in the city of XYZ city being labelled as one of the most polluted cities in the world due to poor air quality due to the current practices in the energy sector. To this end, I would like to play my part in solving these issues by enhancing the knowledge that can be provided by the PhD program in Chemical Engineering at XYZ University. Both of the emphasis areas, Renewable Energy and Modeling and Simulation appeal to me. Based on these fields, I plan to enhance my computational knowledge and use it towards improving energy efficiency, and thus, towards a clean future.
I started exploring novel energy projects at the top university of XYZ country where I earned a Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering. Luckily our department's new building construction was under way, which let me improve my advanced computational and research skills by conducting a sustainable heat load analysis of the building for the course "Heat Transfer". I formulated heat load differential equations for comprehensive 3D steady and 2D unsteady heat distribution maps in MATLAB. Following that, in my undergraduate research, I did a numerical study for improving thermal performance by a forced convective heat transfer using airflow past a prolate and oblate spheroid on Ansys FLUENT. I try to find every possible opportunity to work on energy-efficient projects that will allow me to sharpen my modelling and computation skills.
The same opportunity occurred to me during my internships at Attock Refinery Limited and Oil and Gas Development Company. I observed a common issue of elevated capital costs and shutdowns in heat exchangers. To address this, my thesis project aimed at enhancing the energy transfer in U-type heat exchangers through geometric modifications involving experimental and computational analysis on Ansys FLUENT. All professors praised my innovative Gear module simulation, earning me a work-in-progress research paper. As a research assistant at XYZ company, I worked to model the equipment needed to produce sodium silicate solution (SS), which is commonly used as an adhesive and binder. I applied SS as a brick binder, as it provides lower energy consumption and zero harmful emissions compared to traditional methods. This work has been accepted for presentation at an upcoming conference. My academic achievements motivate me to work more towards a sustainable energy process.
In addition to my academic achievements, I have engaged in national events that let me connect and lead people from different backgrounds which have enhanced my interpersonal skills. I find myself an ideal candidate for the chance to network, collaborate, and especially, unite with fellow participants. I will use this opportunity to connect with professors, especially XYZ professor. His work of modelling and simulating mathematical models for the identification of sustainable and innovative processes resonates with my research interests. I plan to work under his supervision at XYZ Lab, to polish my computational skills and apply them to renewable energy processes.
I want to pursue this programme to model and develop eco-friendly machines for effective energy production and transfer. Choosing PhD program at XYZ is driven by its modern technology, diverse education, great student community, and excellent career support. My ultimate career goal is to apply the learning outcomes in developing an exemplary case study of XYZ's smart urban transition for future cohorts and become a distinguished alumni of the program.
