In the winter of 2011, drizzle outside of the Westin Grand Hotel, reporters have gathered in a heated discussion in the effect of European debt crisis in 2012. While the press waited on, their eyes were constantly looking out the door, as if expecting something. The press conference's main topic was for the prediction of financial direction based on the cooperation of investment fund and association. Soon afterwards, two third of the reporters suddenly rushed to the door and circled around a person. Out of curiosity, I also went to take a look at the charismatic person. It turned out to be the General Manager of the largest financial holding, Cathay Investment Trust, Mr. Xi Chang. When he was giving his financial forecast for 2012, all the press were either busily calling or taking down his words. It was at that precise moment that I have seen my future. I want to be a person of influence who has the ability shake hundreds of thousands of people with only a report or a few words. Furthermore, I would like to be someone who has the knowledge to accurately analyze the financial trend.
During my one year and six month employment at Cathay United Bank, I was one of the few financial planners that were chose from a pool of applicants. Each year, the acceptance rate for financial planners is only around 20%. In my job, I have learned to be more professional in my financial planning, investment method and negotiation skills. Unfortunately, the knowledge I have can learn in local banks is incomparable to the foreign professional investment institutes abroad. It was based on my desire to understand greater investment research and methods that has prompted me to join the Securities Investment Trust & Consulting Association of the R.O.C in a rare opportunity. After successfully passing through the examination, I was certified as a legal investment trust personnel. During this time, I have worked with many industrial companies. Aside from promoting the correct investment concept to people, I have also assisted many corporations to expand the structure of their trust, such as a national tour of financial planning seminars, or an investment trust expo. Hence, I am familiar in the organization of large-scale events in the Taiwanese market. I will be able to share my experience with my classmate. After attending the roadshow from Luxemburg Association in Taiwan, I have discovered the sheer size and liberty of the foreign market, which is exceedingly huge compare to my own. Therefore, I hope to pursue a foreign education, especially in the largest trust
market in the world, in United States.
Furthermore, under the effect of globalization, investment considered closely tied to the world trend. An able manager must understand the trend of global business activities, well-versed the global market and why the performance of foreign trust is always better and more effective. This is the area that I desperately want to understand and research. Unfortunately, in Taiwan, it is very difficult to received first-handed information to fully understand investment strategies and world trend. Yet with constant training, I have continued to help my family and myself to invest in various financial products, and visited many trust funds and investment consultancies. The more I see and research, the more I discover my lack of investment perception. It was not until witnessing the visit from J.P. Morgan, that I have seen the world class level I want to attain.
Your school's MBA have always had a steady education and well known reputation among the entire world. Aside from enhancing my professionalism, the MBA program will also enable me to have a comprehensive training in management and future prospect. Your school's excellent reputation will provide me with the initiative of entering professional investment institutes such as J.P. Morgan. I trust I will be able to provide the investment concept and market analysis from an oriental point of view. Furthermore, my current employment has allowed me the acquaintance of over half of the general managers in Taiwan's trust funds. With my addition to the school, I will be able to provide an extension of social network to my classmates in school. After entering the MBA, I will register for the CFA testing and hope to complete the second level in the immediate year after my graduation.
The press conference continues proceeded. Everything seemed as usual, I can image that: 10 years from I graduate from my MBA degree. I walk slowly to the conference of financial prediction of 2025 and I see so many reporters come to me waiting for my prediction. My mentor told me that there are no experts in investing world but winners and losers. I firmly believe that the first step of success is from your MBA.
It depends on which college you are applying to. Some colleges prefer writing about your career aspirations while some colleges prefer if you target power for social causes.
