Writing Feedback / TOEFL: invest in infrastructure and physical plant V.S. invest in keeping the faculty satisfied [3]

It is more important for universities to invest in infrastructure and physical plant than to invest in keeping the faculty satisfied.
Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer

invest more on faulty

It is no doubt that two of most important elements of a successful university are good infrastructure and good faculty. It is always a problem how to make to the best use of school budget. Some people think universities should focus on physical facility because it allows students to learn more efficiently. However, I consider it is more important to keep faculty happy than to upgrade infrastructure and physical plants.

While advanced and high-tech facilities make students easy to learn, human capital plays vital role of students' learning. Image even though a school has the latest computers, it is just a waste of money if no one knows how to use them. Contrastingly, well-trained faulty can teach students well without having the best facility. Moreover, I think it is meaningless for a university to build a lot of new buildings. The reason is that students are able to keep using the same building for a long time. Many buildings at well-known universities have been using over one hundred years.

In addition, it is important to keep good professors at universities. In my point of view, professors are the greatest asset of a university instead of facility. Most students are not attracted by wonderful facility but by famous professors. In Taiwan, universities often pay famous professors a big amount of money to keep them at school, and high school students choose their top university based on teachers. Therefore, universities are better to invest more on faculty.

Last but not least, keeping faculty satisfied makes them enthusiastic and motivated on teaching. Except for decent salary, universities can do a lot for letting their faulty happy, like renting them cheap apartments. By doing so, teachers are able to push more effort of teaching without worrying other annoying stuffs. Eventually, it enables students to receive high quality of education.

In short, universities are supposed to invest more on faulty because good faulty is able to offer more profits and advantages to universities.

This is my first post. Please give me some advice. Many thanks!!

Writing Feedback / Which age group is easier to be influenced by views of celebrities? [3]

Question:
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?

The opinions of celebrities, such as famous entertainers and athletes, are more important to younger people than they are to older people.
Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

importance of VIPs news

There is no doubt that the young and the elderly are quite different on various angles. But which group is easier to be influenced by views of celebrities is hard to answer. Some people consider the elderly are the ones who tend to be control by others' views because they are loyal to someone they follow. However, I agree that youngsters take opinions of celebrities more serious for following reasons.

Firstly, although the elderly tend to follow the rules set up by authorities, they stick to the rules even those rules are abolished. That is to say, the elderly are so stubborn that they deny changing. For instance, my grandfather, who was from mainland China, obey the most famous celebrity: president Chiang at that time, and he did care about president's opinion. In the rest of his life, he rejects changes of time and environments because the thoughts of president become his. It causes no one can change his mind.

Secondly, the young are eager to be look cool and awesome, easily been affected by the opinions of someone famous. At that ages, teenagers try their best to find a role model, and celebrities fit that kind of role. For instance, nowadays students at Taiwan start singing hip-hop because the hot TV show and many celebrities regard this type of music as the greatest. It was hard to image this trend few years ago because few people listened to hip-hop.

Last but not least, the young are a little naive, so they trust what someone well-known says. Young people are likely to be lack of critical thinking skills. They just jump up the wagon when someone well-known express his idea. On the other hand, the elderly are likely to doubt what celebrities say because they have been cheated through their entire lives. For this reason, young people tend to be manipulated by others' views.

In short, I feel the young consider opinions of celebrities more important than the older people do. That is because old people are too hard-headed to change and because younger people want to be as cool as celebrities.

thx in advance

Writing Feedback / It is important to know about events happening around the world, even if they won't affect you [4]

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
It is important to know about events happening around the world, even if it is unlikely that they will affect your daily life.

it's good to be informed in this world

The question whether it is necessary to be aware of the events which are unlikely to affect your daily life is widely discussed. Some think we should only focus on the news happening around us. However, I agree it is essential to care about the events around the world for the following reasons.

Firstly, we are living in the global village that every event may end up influencing us to certain degree. That is to say, we are all in part of the events when something happens and we have nowhere to escape. For example, financial crisis breaking in the U.S. in 2008 causes whole world into recession. I still remember I sat at couch and thought it was not our business as I heard the news. It turns out financial crisis indeed impact my country a lot. Many people lost their jobs and a few banks went bankrupt.

Secondly, we can be obsolete if we turn a blind eye on what happens around the world. It is easy to be replaced and outpaced if we only concern the thing happening around us. The history of China is a good example to support this idea. Back around two hundred years, China was one of the most advanced countries around the world. It sold best products such as silks and tea to western countries. At this period, Chinese were so proud of themselves that they denied knowing and learning from other countries. This causes their technology to stagnate. Without the latest technology, China could not upgrade their weapons, eventually being invaded by other nations.

Last but not least, we are not supposed to divide among different people based on races or places where they live because we are all human beings. When something bad occurring, it is everyone's duty to stand for and fight against it. For instance, there is a terrible genocide in the north of Myanmar in the recent months. Even it is far away from where I live and it may not cause any effect on my daily life in the short term, I feel obliged to do something to help those in suffer out. It is mainly because those events are matter of justice and we are not supposed to be indifferent.

In short, I strongly think we should pay attention to events happening around the world. The reasons are that everyone affect one another to some extent, we should keep pace with new trends, and we are all human beings.

I know my composition is a little subjective and provocative. But that is the only way I can write the number of words prompt asks.....

ANYWAY thanks alot for reading my article
