Writing Feedback / need help with this essay - "the subjects with which you had difficulty" [5]

okay so i have like three essays that are due tonight nd i just realized that one of them will have to be a subpar essay. i just need any feedback (grammar, spelling, did i answer the questions, anything helpful)

Prompt:Discuss the subjects with which you had difficulty. What factors do you believe contributed to your difficulties? How have you dealt with them so they will not cause problems for you again? In what areas have you experienced the greatest improvement? What problem areas remain?

History has always been the subject in which I have struggle the most. It was never interesting to me. "Why did I need to learn about events of the past when I lived in the present ? I could not relevance of learning history. Because I truly didn't find history the least bit enjoyable, I struggle through my classes. The lack of enthusiasm lead to many frustrated nights studying for my history exams.

My struggles in history continued until U.S History my junior year. Ms. Holland, my U.S History teacher, had a true enthusiasm and love for history. This enthusiasm rubbed of on my classmates and myself. She reminded us that history was connected. The events of today are dependent on the events of the past. She taught me how to make sense out of history by trying to understand the personal motives that went in to any chain of historical occurrences. As I learned about the history of North Carolina and the United States, I came to realize the important of our past. I realized that in order to truly understand who we are and how we came to be, we need to understand our past. As I became more interested in history, it became a story to me. To truly understand the page that I was on today, I had to first understand those pages that came before it. Dates, places and people were transformed into the thread that held this story together.

Ms. Holland, truly inspired me by teaching me history was connected and I was a part of it. This realization developed into an enthusiasm for a subject that I had disliked. What Ms. Holland taught me can be applied to many aspects of my life. Whenever I feel apathetic towards anything, I attempt to find where I am connected to it. In doing so I gain enthusiasm towards it. This lesson has been monumental to my educational success.

Undergraduate / 'surrounded by knowledge' - essay for the gates millennium [5]

Other than through classes in school, in what areas (non-academic or academic) have you acquired knowledge or skills? How?

We are constantly surrounded by knowledge. Everyday situations serve as an opportunity for us to learn something new. Knowledge is present both in and out of the classroom. As an active member in my community, I am constantly surrounded by opportunity to experience knowledge as well as learning. Volunteering in my community has offered me the opportunity to learn from those who I interact with.

Community service is an opportunity for me to learn from the world, while offering myself to it. As a volunteer at Rex Hospital I have the opportunity to meet and talk to many different and unique people. My experience with each different individual that I have met has yielded a lesson from which I can learn and develop. Each lesson that I have taken away as a volunteer at Rex Hospital has been instrumental in my development as a young man. My experiences at Rex Hospital have taught me the values of patients, perseverance and determination. The example of patients who smile in the face of terminal illness and persevere through painful therapy has taught me that I can overcome any obstacle that I face. Determination and perseverance are the essential tools that I need to overcome any struggle and obstacle that I may face. These lessons that I have learned as a volunteer will help me continue to develop as a young man, while giving me the tools to become a good man.

Writing Feedback / Leadership experience - leader is one who learns from their success and failure [4]

Discuss a leadership experience you have had in any area of your life - school, work, athletics, family, church, community, etc. How and why did you become a leader in this area? How did this experience influence your goals?

A good leader is one who learns from their success and failure. My experience as team captain of my basketball team has taught me many valuable lessons. In my career as an athlete I have participated on teams that lost, as well as teams that were successful. As a leader on these teams I have learned very many valuable lessons that have helped me develop into a strong individual.

Playing on losing teams is never fun. We all strive to be successful in all that we do. But our failures serve as a platforms for as to vault to success. Playing on a losing team has taught me the values of perseverance, determination and hard work. When the score of a basketball game is lopsided, the easiest thing to do is give up. But as a captain on my basketball team, I learned that giving up is declaring your own premature defeat. Persevering through hard losses gave my team the determination to work harder in practice and in our games. Our hard work translated into more wins.

Although success is sweet, you can not be content with what you have achieve. You must strive to exceed your own achievement. This is an important lesson that I have learned through my experience as captain of my basketball team. When my team won games, we were happy with our success. But we were never content, our desire to win only grew stronger with every win. My basketball team was able to make it to the City of Raleigh championship game, because we never put a celling on our success.

The lessons that I have taken away from my experience as a captain on my basketball will be instrumental in my success both at a collegiate level as well as in my career. Perseverance, determination and hard work are the tools that I need to rise from my failures. And in my success, striving to surpass my own excellence will ensure that I will never be content with my achievement. I will only continue to work on improving on what I have already accomplished.
