Undergraduate / How would your family, friends, and/or members of your community describe you? [2]

Please guys i need help on this essay. This is my second attempt.

Prompt: Tell us about who you are. How would your family, friends, and/or members of your community describe you? If possible, please include something about yourself that you are most proud of and why. (maximum 250 words

my personal flexibility

I stared quietly at my mom who was sitting on the bed across me and I could see clearly the worried look on her face even though she tried to deny it. My dad's arthritis had escalated again forcing him out of the little job he had managed to obtain leaving her to fend for the family alone. I gently moved to where she was and told her to stop worrying, to this, she gave a faint smile.

I have always considered myself sort of a people watcher because I have the tendency to be sensitive to the mood of those around me. This attitude does not only help me determine the feelings of those around me but also to provide assistance in the best way I could.

However, this is just one part of me. There is the Elizabeth my family know; the serious minded girl who could stop halfway reading a book to tease you. To my teachers am the responsible and confident girl who could take on tasks assigned to her however difficult. On the other hand, my friends refer to me as the girl who never stops following her dreams. In addition, my classmates refer to me as the go to person when they had problems.

I am an individual with different personalities but my personal flexibility is what I am most proud of because it allows me to quickly adapt to different situations and to combine the various parts of me to produce the well balanced, compassionate, reliable and confident individual that I am.

education in nigeria

The attitude towards higher education in Nigeria especially among the poor, has evolved immensely over the last few years. Education, once considered a key to growth, development and a way of eliminating poverty is considered a waste of time to many who still live in adverse poverty despite getting a college degree. This trend continues to grow and so does the number of individuals unwilling to transit into institutions of higher learning. Many individuals now prefer to settle for a petty trade that enables them to earn regular income enough to feed themselves and their families rather than spend those years getting a degree.

I once discussed with one of my mom's customers who had exclaimed that her degree in nursing was useless since she was just a housewife with no job prospects. Few weeks later, I heard a similar comment from my elder brother who could not complete a two-year pre-university program because of finances. He had exclaimed out of frustration he wasn't as interested in education as he was and that education wasn't a guarantee for success. I felt hurt to hear this from him because he was someone I once admired so much due to his passion for education.

I still think education is vital for success and is needed to gain the skills one needed to pursue his dreams and passions. Sadly, this isn't the case with most people who have long lost interest in education. The effect of this is that loss of interest in education leads to high rate of unemployment which leads to increased poverty and the cycle continues.

Growing up with parents who have no college degrees and struggled each day to cater for the family, I have always had an ardent interest in education. I have always wanted to know how the economic system worked and how I could be a vital part if this process. Yet I have been told by many people that focusing on education would do me no good. To these people, a college degree provided prestige but not self accomplishment. It wasn't as if education was a bad idea but the belief in it was almost absent in a society like this.

If this trend continues, I fear for the future of generations to come. It isn't enough to provide individuals with financial help to go to college, the government and everyone have to look into the background and address the causes of this behavior such as unemployment. I personally think the answers to these problems lies in a deep understanding of the various economic principles. This, I hope to achieve this as an economist.

What is the essence of education if it cannot be used to better one's life?. I hope to address this problem.

My aim what to show how getting an education especially a college education was important to me because of the challenges I had faced. Are my supposed to talk about the education first?.

""Over time, success to me revolved from finishing high school to earning a college degree. It is my way of proving to myself that I could achieve whatever I chose and it was my way of telling my family that their sacrifices were worth it"". Does this conclusion help.

This is the essay i wrote in response to the prompt but I dont know if it answers the question.

Good education matters

Growing up, stability was something that came and went in the blink of an eye. Many things were at play for my family's condition but the major contributor was my parents inability to earn steady incomes because they did not havewithout college degrees and also due to my father''s illness. Mom engaged in so many petty trades and dad visited construction sites to look for jobs that most times triggered his arthritis; keeping him homebound for long periods of time.

Despite these difficulties, my parents believed so much in education. Hence, they sacrificed pleasure to give my siblings and I the best education they could afford even if was difficult most of the time. For instance, one time in middle school my aunt had advised my dad to pull us out of school because he had been sick for almost a month and we hadn't attended school for months. My dad had bluntly refused. Seeing my dad in such a conditions filled me with a sense of guilt whenever I obtained a poor grade in school or failed a test. My family's condition always served as a constant reminder to me on the need to succeed no matter how hard it may seem.
