Scholarship / Study Objective [Fulbright] : Studying HCI to Solve Problem Based on Human Behavior. [2]

"People should not adjust to the machines but rather, the machines should adjust to people."

I am ready

I am introducing myself as a distinguished candidate from a rapidly developing country, Indonesia. I am a bachelor of psychology with a big passion in technology and human empowerment. I currently work in a technology based social enterprise, while also own a small women's wear business. My experience made me believe that every business should care about human behaviors and user's journey satisfaction as people's positive interaction with business is the key success of any existing business. Therefore, I am writing to show my interest in master's degree in the field of Human Computer Interaction in United States, the pioneer country of tech startup and the home country of leading technology companies to the world. I am certain that the master's degree will enhance me to become a successful User Experience (UX) professional, with the great exposure of US' technology companies environment. It will provide me with in-depth learning in understanding people, learning the necessary techniques in order to research why humans use technology, and how digital products should be developed to solve problems.

My work experiences shaped me into someone who really values the impact the enterprise is making and how an enterprise should be sustainable to make continuous impact. Specifically in XX, we build access through technology for non tech-savvy users. Our technology touches them directly as almost 70% Indonesians are low income society who lives in small cities with limited access. Here is where I fell in love with technology industry as I believe that technology will accelerate changes and people empowerment. Unfortunately, most startup developments in Indonesia are focused for middle-high society who has the privilege of easy access in many things in life. In building my business, I also got the exposure to empower traditional textiles craftsmen from different cultures in Indonesia. As a business owner, I really understand the importance of giving people the best and satisfying journey. With all my experiences, I have known I want a career in technology to empower people ever since. Even in this era of digitalization, my background and experience help my way of thinking that every enterprise and product is human-centric, made to be used by human, made to support people's life, made to solve problem.

My aspiration is to be a qualified tech-people who has balanced understanding of engineering as well as understanding human, to be able to develop not the coolest technology but the most usable one. In the future, the role of UX will keep on changing as time goes by. What's sure is that human will still be the center of any changes, and integrating humanities to technology to maximize the user's experience will be the most fundamental element to success. I want to use technology to solve those problems through designing digital products for the age we live in. I want to be someone who understand the pain points of people who are using the products, to start fixing the problem, and help them along their journey. I believe that taking this degree will strengthen my knowledge in human-centric engineering and UX and help me to reach my aspiration.

As I come back to Indonesia, I picture myself contributing to or developing a impactful social enterprise, to be someone who takes part in researching, developing and designing familiar technology environments that are usable for people who needed us the most. In the long term, I see myself as an UX expert leading a strong team to help solving complex issues in the world. I would also see my business growing as a tech social enterprise that gives satisfying journey for both the customers and the traditional craftsmen communities that we serve.

In my country, I also find that psychology graduates rarely dive into technology industry as UX specialist or any other positions, even though as psychology graduates we actually have the strong foundation and knowledge to contribute solving problems through designing digital products based on human behavior and needs. I want to be a good example and give positive influence to other psychology graduates that we all have another room of contribution.

With the Fulbright Awardee network, I will use my skill in building relationships with new friends, experts and professionals. I look forward to work together with inspiring alumnus of Fulbright Awardee to be a problem solver through technology. Hopefully, I will be ready to launch, to develop improvement, new innovations, to solve people's problems and to make impact through technology. To learn about new culture and to share Indonesia's beautiful culture is always exciting for me as I believe that cultural exchange is an eye-opening process to our knowledge and to our soul. Together making innovations, improvements, and positive changes.

My post-graduation journey had prepared me to this point where I am ready to accelerate my knowledge, leverage my skills, and broaden my network. I would be honored to be granted admission to give a valuable contribution to your program. I believe that my knowledge will be enhanced by completing the Human Computer Interaction Master's Degree as I will be more capable in making scalable impact through technology.

Graduate / The world of data. Statement of Intent for MS in Data Science program [4]

Hi! Since this is a statement of purpose I think you might missed the "purpose of taking the course for your future". You might want to add how do you see yourself in the future and how the study would help you to learn several things about data science/engineering.

Hope it helps :)

Undergraduate / Tell me about yourself (family, hobbies, dreams, strongest and weakest points) [5]

Hi,

I think you can write more effective sentence like combining some of your sentences.
For example : "When I was ... life of a hacker that inspires me to be a cool hacker just like him. Ever since I never stop dreaming to be a hacker and start to learn programming when I was in highschool. ......"

hope it helps :)
thanks

I'll uphold the high standards of GLOCAL Master Program

I am introducing myself as a distinguished candidate from Indonesia, the rapidly developing country with its beautiful culture. Combining my dream, background, and my spirit of entrepreneurship, herewith I am writing to show my interest in Global Markets, Local Creativities International Master Program.

I was born from a thoughtful business woman, shaping me into someone who values local business empowerment. Following my mother's work rhythm through ups and downs, since I was a child I followed her from meeting craftsmen and suppliers throughout Indonesia to going to many exhibitions abroad. I watched her business grew and gave direct impact for local resources. I was only 13 when I witnessed her struggle through the era of globalization as her local products and resources fought with the tremendous invasion power of imported products. I never forget how painful it was for my mother to shut down her business. Not only financially struggling, I felt her heartbreak as she could no longer empower people who worked for her that time. Through all the journey, I believe that GLOCAL program is the right path for me as it's always my dream to prove that the creativities of our local resources in Indonesia can compete with global market and economy with the right empowerment and development.

I am a bachelor of psychology with a big passion of human empowerment through business. this background had led me to believe that I believe that every business should care about human behaviors and cultures as people's positive interaction with the business would make it sustainable. Additionally, my life journey has led me to be someone who strongly believes in how business is powerful to answer problems, to give hope and positive impact to people's life.

To balance my educational life, I joined AIESEC organization in college. I worked to match and send students for internships to several NGOs abroad. As a youngster, I communicated with professionals from various countries, which challenged me to improve my communication skill, confidence, and to give them best experience as my clients. I joined another organization which sends me to USA and Brazil as Indonesia's cultural representative. It was another great opportunity for appreciating other cultures as well as a moment of networking as I met delegations from various countries and also people from Indonesian Consulate and Embassy.

Right now, I own a small women's wear business which I started in my college year with my sister. Starting from scratch, here is where I learn about managing resources, setting goals, and making standard to have a profitable, impactful, and sustainable business. I believe that all good things start with spreading good seeds. After settling up in the first two years, I took initiative collaborating with a charity organization. We made profit for the organization by selling exclusive traditional collection and more importantly we help people who need us the most. Furthermore, I took brave steps to produce clothes from traditional textiles made by craftsmen in small city in West Java. I went through lush countryside to find craftsmen and learned about managing new resources from different culture. I also lead the marketing strategy as I wanted customers to feel contributing to Indonesian heritage and history without losing their modern lifestyle. Right now we have empowered 3 craftsmen who produce traditional textile for my brand regularly. In 2011,we were awarded as CLEO's most innovative local brand and now we are a team of 10 who is happy and passionate about the impact and achievements that we make.

These past 2 years, I also work for a fast-growing noble social enterprise. We give mid-to-low income communities the access to household goods through a rotational group saving platform that we created. To increase their income and dignity, we unite the power of millions of low income families to provide them with better access to goods and services. We do this by recruiting local entrepreneurs to facilitate ordering, payment, and delivery for their neighbors using our technology. Here is the perfect place that gives me opportunities to apply my passion and knowledge for communities in Indonesia. I work as a recruiter where I translate my hard work as making impact through motivating people to reach noble goals together. I have also learned about emphasizing local resources to battle with global markets as we work with local resources to create quality products. Working here has strengthen my passion and shaped me stronger to be a hardworking, dynamic, value-driven, and responsible business person.

Though I already had valuable experiences for the past years, I do see a need of higher education in entrepreneurial & management to help me achieve my goals. The module that GLOCAL offers is the best program suiting my passion and concern. The specialized pathway in Global Markets & Development will help me gaining deeper understanding in particular areas and to reach my career plan in the near future.

Studying in three different cities must be very eye-opening as Glasgow, Barcelona, and Gottingen are located at the heart of global market countries. GLOCAL offers the opportunities to learn the fundamentals on making innovations and together with traditional ones. The programs will help me to understand historical and cultural perspectives on global economy, global marketing, and mass consumption. Moreover, module regarding Family Business will be useful as my sister and I built our own enterprise. With its strong reputation, I will be able to learn real cases from professionals in GLOCAL program. I believe that my learning experience will be emphasized through practical program that GLOCAL offers such as the summer school and internships.

By completing Master's degree, my goal is to give my knowledge for local people empowerment through business and globalization, especially for mid-to-low income people who is still very embed to the culture and history of the country. It will be my topic of dissertation, specifically focus on creative and cultural industries through technology. As nowadays digital culture has emerging our lives, along with my big goal, I want to make movement through creative opportunities using technology. I believe that technology will accelerate local markets to global market.

After I graduated, I am planning to raise the idea of creating a system to unite potential customers with local craftsmen who will be empowered through lifestyle brand and technology, specifically through crowdsourcing design and textile made by Indonesian traditional craftsmen and retailers. I believe that traditional retailers are the source of great design and quality products but they tend to be undeveloped with the access limitations. Through technology, consumers will discover their creative demands. In the same time, traditional retailers will gain exposure, learn to run their business, and keep up with global demands that interests with the customers most.

My plan goes along with the growth of Small Medium Enterprise growth Indonesia, connected with government's focus to develop the GDP of the country. According to World Bank in 2015, almost 70% Indonesians are middle-to-low income society with who needs to be empowered. Unfortunately, most startup developments in Indonesia are focused for middle-high society who has the privilege of easy access in many things in life. Yes, I want to be someone who solves that problem.

The two years of my post-graduation journey had prepared me to this point where I am ready to accelerate my knowledge, leverage my skills, and broaden my network. Attending GLOCAL program would bring me a step closer in realizing my dream. As my knowledge will be enriched by completing the GLOCAL Master's Degree, I will be more capable in making scalable impact through bringing local creative entrepreneurship to the global market.

I would be honored to be granted admission and scholarship opportunity to give a valuable contribution to your program. I am certain that I could prove to be a worthy student by enriching classroom discussions as well as actively taking part in school activities. I am confident that I would be able to uphold the high standards of GLOCAL Master Program.

Graduate / My motivation for attending the Embedded Computing Systems Programme [4]

@nelly12345
Hi ! I think in the beginning, you could give your genuine motivation about why you and your life journey made you chose computer science field in the first place. And in the end you could express your clear aspiration/career plan as well.

These two paragraphs maybe could be rephrased to make it more compact and simplified :
"During my time abroad...

On a societal level..."

Best luck!

Scholarship / Chevening - Career Plan - Empowering People through Business and Technology [2]

Kindly review my essay for career plan :) thanks a lot!

making scalable impact

My life journey has led me to be someone who cares and wants to involve in empowering others. I strongly believe in how business is powerful to answer problems, to give hope and positive impact to other people's life. My mother's small business until my work experiences inspire me a lot.

By completing Master's degree, my big goal is to give my knowledge for human empowerment through business, still the same motivation that encourages me to build business. Since I already run a small business, I am planning to make innovations in my existing lifestyle brand business as a social enterprise. According to the goal, my plan is to create a system to unite potential customers with local craftsmen who will be empowered through lifestyle brand and technology, specifically through crowdsourcing design and textile made by Indonesian local craftsmen.

My plan goes along with the growth of Small Medium Enterprise in Indonesia. The industry is growing along with government's focus to develop the GDP of the country. According to World Bank in 2015, almost 70% Indonesians are middle-to-low income society with limited access in life, who needs to be empowered. Unfortunately, most startup and technology development in Indonesia are focused for middle-high tech savvy society who has the privilege of easy access in many things in life. Yes, I want to be someone who solves that problem. There is already an open opportunity for my business to collaborate in the future with a social enterprise where I also work, together empowering women in Indonesia. The opportunity is actually everywhere as I commit to do networking actively.

In short term, after I graduated, I will directly apply my knowledge to do research, build the system in the business, while collaborating with existing networks and with Badan Ekonomi Kreatif Indonesia. In the longer term, the enterprise will already make impact at scale for craftsmen's welfare and keep on making innovations. The system in the business will be running with loyal customers, continuous innovation and improvement. The business will keep on giving bigger smiles, better lives, and improving welfare.

By completing education in the best university in UK, it will leverage my chances to involve in any opportunity UK will offer and also the programs held by Chevening. I am looking forward to collaborate with British Council as they have done several projects with Indonesia in creative economy field, social actions, as well as giving attention to Indonesia's social enterprise and working together with Indonesian fashion brand. I will be part of the impact they are making as the programs will enrich my learning process in order to achieve my goal.

Through business, I will be giving lifestyle another meaning. Through lifestyle, we can be a giver and be a part of valuable and impactful movement. As my knowledge will be enriched by completing the Master's Degree, I will be more capable in making scalable impact through entrepreneurship and technology as I believe that technology and innovation will accelerate changes.
