Writing Feedback / Many people are of the opinion that oral speeches overpower its paper counterpart - IELTS 2 [2]

Spoken communication is more always powerful than written communication.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?
============== My work===================
From the beginning of mankind, communication has been largely developed into two major sectors namely spoken and written. Many people are of the opinion that oral speeches overpower its paper counterpart all the time. From my perspective, while I agree spoken conversations have overwhelming advantages over written forms, I doubt if they do in all circumstances.

On the one hand, oral conversations truly prove to have more power in most scenarios. Firstly, daily communication takes place in almost any place any time because of its rapid delivery of messages followed by prompt response from others. For instance, it is crucial for most lectures to be vocally conducted in class whereas books are to be patiently read at home for preparation or post-class assignments. Secondly, by speaking out the messages, people can make use of the generous assistance of their voice. This includes the tones which help convey the speakers' emotions and the stresses which aid in emphasis of signigicant points.

On the other hand, though less dominant, there are certain cases in which written forms cannot be replaced. Regarding scientific researches, laborious experiments and meticulous observations need to be made in order for valuable findings and breakthroughs to be discovered. Thus, since these assets are too important to be stored as recordings or videos, paper and books serve as a better preservation. Furthermore, insightful books that embrace seas of knowledge and skills necessarily require much time from readers to keep track and apply piece by piece in their life. Not a single audio book version can overrule such uses of a traditional skill book.

In conclusion, oral language appears to be more powerful due to its supreme regularity and immediate effects from the voice. However, this is not always the case as written language communicates better in some other circumstances such as significant academic studies and skill-teaching materials.

Writing Feedback / Task 2 IELTS - People living longer after retirement - people's health [6]

People are living longer after they retire. What are the problems? What can be done to solve the problems?

--------------------------My Work -----------------------------------------------
In this day and age, people's health is being significantly improved thanks to advances in healthcare. As a result, more and more people enjoy extended lifespan after their retirement. While there are manifold problems stemming from this scenario, there are just as many tangible solutions to tackle them.

The drawbacks of having longer life expectancy pose a couple of threats on a social basis. Firstly, it is inevitable that city population may be subject to steady increases. This is because birth rate is getting faster while death rate is becoming slower, which creates intense stress on urban population. Secondly, another dilemma might come in the name of housing shortage which is the result of high demands in living spaces. Consequently, housing prices will also be on the rise as retired work force usually spend their earnings on properties, trying to buy up houses to store as a lucrative investment for their descendants.

Challenging as the problems may seem, some viable measures can be employed to ameliorate such unfavorable situations. Regarding city overpopulation, the government can subsidize into countryside amenities such as public places where the elder can socialize and have quality time with their peers. This may attract people of over working age to the outskirts, therefore, substantially reducing the number of urban citizens. With respect to not only housing shortage but also expensive accommodations, more apartments should be constructed, targeting the middle-class as well as offering low-interest mortgage loans so that a wide range of citizens can afford their homes.

In conclusion, the major worries arisen from prolonged life expectancy after retirement can come in forms of pressure on either urban population or living spaces. However, these issues can be met with practicable measures such as investing in countryside amenities and building more affordable apartments.

Writing Feedback / IELTS Task 2 - Essay about computers' translation - hoping for review [5]

Computers today can quickly and accurately translate languages, therefore, it is a waste of time to learn a foreign language.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

-------------------- My work ---------------------
In this modern era, computers have played a leading role in providing convenience in various aspects of life. Since it is faster and more precise to translate via computer programs, learning a new language seems time-consuming to many people. From my perpective, significant as the aid of computer-based translator, acquiring a different language cannot be considered inferior due to manifold reasons.

To start with, the speedy work of translating applications on phones can offer their users a range of merits, however, overshadowed by the natures of a language speaker. For instance, travellers who find it hard to learn or pronounce certain languages can resort to quick translations from apps for urgent questions about directions in case they get lost. On the other hand, while tourists using auto-translating softwares can find their ways to aspired destinations, language learners can build new relationships by having deeper conversations in a more human manner with local people. Furthermore, although massive in vocabulary storage, the mechanical voice from apps cannot convey aspects of emotions. Unlike the emotionless verbal recordings, human speech can deliver feelings and moods that add authenticity and trustworthiness to communication.

Another strength of translating programs lies in their high accuracy in interpretation which, however, cannot outweigh the drawbacks it brings. It is not surprising nowadays to see more and more apps that not only offer precise translations but also pay meticulous attention to grammatical errors. Capitalizing this miraculous function, many students are able to achieve considerably high grades when dealing with writing homework. While they keep obtaining remarkable scores with hand-in assignments, they simultaneously fail to achieve the same excellence when it comes to real-time writing tests where the use of technological devices is prohibited. This way of learning is alarmingly detrimental as they may grow more and more dependent on computers, and consequently, become lazy thinkers.

In conclusion, advantageous as the lingual shortcuts computers provide us, they should only be treated as assistance not replacement for conventional language acquisition. The reasons for this vary from the lack of deep messages and genuine emotions to being banned in test rooms and causing adverse impacts on students' way of learning.
