here is a modified essay..

I am a proud member of the National Society of Black Engineers. I have had the opportunity to promptly attend biweekly meetings. Here, we promote the increase of African American's graduating from college and also to advise students about distractions and what should not be done to hinder success. It is said that ''there are many doors of success in life to which education holds the key''. It not only helps one get a good job and be successful, it also helps one live a good life in general because knowledge is power and ignorance is one of the world's deadliest diseases. This is what I believe the NSBE organization was created for.

Undergraduate / Having a dinner with three people (dead, fictional, alive) UVA essay [9]

Hi, I would love for you to give me suggestions and corrections on my essay. I greatly appreciate it and would love the critics on it as well.. Thanks

The three people (living, dead or fictional) that I would have dinner with are chosen because they have been able to effectively make an impact on the world through politics, science, and innovation. I believe that without their existence and ideals, the modern world of today would not be an advanced and equal society that we live in. They are; Benjamin Franklin, Bill Gates and Thomas Edison.

I chose Benjamin Franklin because he was a man of amazing talents and made various achievements. He did not grow up rich as his parents could only afford to send him to school for 2 years and thus continued his education on his own. He became an apprentice to his older brother where he learnt printing trade. But even through this hardship and zeal, He was able to write the famous book ''Poor Richard's Almanac''; became postmaster of Philadelphia and invented the Franklin stove. He was also very flexible, smart and creative. He was a leading author and printer, political theorist, scientist, inventor and more. It was undoubtedly impossible for me not to choose him. I believe that his life justifies the saying ''nothing is impossible''. His life shows me with zeal and passion for whatever I find myself doing, I can achieve the very best. At the dinner, I would love to just sit back and absorb his wisdom. I would ask him about what he thought about modern politics and what he would do to get United States of America out of the recession. I would also ask him about whether or not he would want to live in the modern world and inspire other people just as how he has inspired me.

I chose Bill Gates because I believe he is one of the most influential and known person in the world. Mr. Gates shows me that talent and interest are all that matter alongside hard work in achieving one's dream. Just as Benjamin Franklin, he also did not finish school. He dropped out of Harvard University to create his own software company that we presently know as Microsoft. With Microsoft, I have been able to see the development of computers with software programs such as windows. I as an engineer will be more curious about his company's future plans for computers. He also has donated billions of dollars through his charitable foundations. His generosity has helped millions of people around the world. At the dinner, I would ask him about what stern his interest in computers; what gave him that boldness to drop out of an ivy league as Harvard. I would also ask him about how his views of where technology is headed in the future. Mr. Gates is an epitome of a complete successful man whose has more to give to the world regardless his limited years in the University. This urges me to think big and even bigger while still at school. By combining my education with the wise words heard from Mr. Gates, I know I can be the best at what I have passion for which is electrical engineering.

I chose Thomas Edison because he was solely known as an inventor. He has contributed to various inventions in mass communications and telecommunications. Both of these researches have dominated the modern world. Telephone, radio, television, internet are all important in the society today. Because of his achievements, his name has been the name of various energy and electric companies at large. He is also a fellow electrical engineer just as I aspire to be. Also in honor of Thomas Edison, his name is the name of the highest award from the American Institute of Electrical and Electrical engineers which is now called (IEEE), an organization that I am currently a part of. It is called the Edison Medal All these attributes are some of the forces that drive me into electrical engineering. Thomas Edison was known as a man that never gave up. He had fresh innovations each time which led to something great. As a future engineer, I long for such ability to be able to bring up new and well constructive innovations that will contribute to the world. At the dinner, I would ask him about the inventions he would have loved to create before he died. I would tell him about how his contributions have been greatly appreciated to engineers. I would also ask for advice for the present generation as the world is moving fast.

With the knowledge I gained from these people, I see myself becoming a greater if not the greatest inventor in the future. These men of vision kept their dreams alive and strictly followed it, setting a pace for me and like-wise other potential engineers. They are truly the ones I would love to have dinner with anytime any day because of how inspiration they are and they can never be out of fresh ground-breaking ideas.

Undergraduate / Engineering Planned course of study; UVA supplement [9]

How do the possible career engineering relate to your planned course of study?

tell us why you have chosen this field and what experiences (work, internships, etc.) have prepared you for it.

Please correct and provide suggestions, I really appreciate it

According to an online dictionary (dictionary.com), engineering can be defined as "the art or science of making practical application of the knowledge of pure sciences." The practices have been benefitting to humankind and involve the constant interaction with the environment. It is a field that I am eager to explore and work in order to better the advancement of technology in the future. Factors such as interest, availability in the job market, and potential growth have guided my desire in a profession in this field.

It is generally said that the interest in a field or job is the prominent key of success. As a child, I have been fascinated by the way electronics work and curious on their applications in our daily lives. In 2000, I bought my first game system the PlayStation2 (PS2). It is designed as a source of entertainment with better graphical quality and its ability to play movies. I was fascinated by its ability to play games and watch movies which sets it apart from a regular DVD player. This propelled me to ask my dad about the creation and was told that engineers develop devices such as the PS2. I quickly developed interest in wanting to create similar things. I became more focused on science classes such as Mathematics and Physics as my knowledge was open for more. By the 8th grade, I was sure that my future major was electrical engineering and all I needed was to work hard on that goal.

The engineering job market is in high demand in spite of the recession. This is because there is a shortage of college graduates in engineering and a high rate of college drop out. I feel very privileged to be one of the students in a major that is always on the demand. With this in mind, I have disciplined to continue in this field. Also, to strengthen my understanding, I joined Engineering Societies such as the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (IEEE) respectively. These institutes help to build successful engineers. I also joined with the purpose of using the knowledge gained from these institutes to better prepare me as I go along my major and increase my chances of getting a job.

With the growth of technology, there is potential growth for engineers. As a result of this, engineers would likely have increase in salary growth.
With the assurance of all these factors, I have no doubt in my mind that I have chosen the right field to explore and I hope to develop devices that will be benefitting to everyone as a whole.

Undergraduate / "to rejuvenate my African culture" Essay question help, transferring [2]

Hi, Please help me correct, suggestions about my essay. I really appreciate it. Thanks

I currently attend Morgan State University. It is an HBCU where I have been able to rejuvenate my African culture as an African American. I have also been able to grow with the black community. But, my reasons for transferring are because of the lack of diversity, growth in the institution and coursework challenge at the university.

I have spent a semester now where I am surrounded by black students from all over the country. With this in mind, I have not been able to constantly meet new people from different racial backgrounds that should be necessary for a successful university. At the University of Virginia, students from different race, culture, and religion are all available on campus. It is a wonderful experience to have the students brought together to study, make friends and have fun all as one. UVA not only attracts minorities but the graduation rate for African Americans have been the top of all public schools as noted on Wikipedia.

Morgan State University has declined in financial funds due to the recession and lack of private funds. I experienced this when I did not originally include the college onto my fafsa that caused me to apply late for financial aid. I made a call to the university and was told that they had run out of grant funds which was in May! My parents are now forced to pay more than they should be paying for my education. The University of Virginia is ranked ninth among the top 20 schools with great financial aid. The program meets 100 percent of student's demonstrated financial need according to the Princeton review. This would be able to attract any type of student to the university.

Also, even though I am studying in the area I am most interested in which is electrical engineering, the coursework and expectations are not challenging here; I do not wish to settle and cruise through the rest of college. I have found that University of Virginias program would best prepare me for a position in the engineering industry. This is because I would be able to experience it first hand through internships and study abroad programs. This also puts me inline for a great resume. By taking advantage of this, I would be able to prepare myself directly for an excellent job. UVA has an exceptional program that sets it apart from other universities. I would be proud to be a student at University of Virginia.

Thanks,
