Book Reports / Haapy Hearts (good feelings should be stored in and bad feelings should be cleaned). [2]

Write a short essay (one to two pages, double-spaced) answering this question:
What does Tan mean by her last line, "Together we knew in our hearts what we should remember, what we can forget."

[b]Here is my essay:

Happy Hearts

"Together we knew in our hearts what we should remember, what we can forget." With these words, Tan ended her story to teach readers great lessons about the heart; (Is any punctuation mark needed here?) this small but glorious organ. It is the leader of our hapiness, so good feelings and memories should be stored in and bad feelings should be regularly cleaned.

Heart's language is more plain and honest than words and acts language and it's voice is the loudest. In their permanent memory of their hearts, Tan and her mother loved each other, hoped happiness to each other. But they were hatefully treating each other because of few words said unintentionally or some tantrums and ill humors that caused negative attitudes. This situation lasted for a long time, but the reality and good things will win at the end no matter how long they disappear. When the reality appeared in Tan's story, it removed false masks and revealed their real honest emotions; love, peace, respect, and forgiveness. The deep emotions, which engendered between the mother and her daughter, between their hearts, their feelings, and between their souls, could not be eliminated in a one-minute-silly puff.

Tan words included also the way that we should apply to maintain happy hearts. Wise control of our feelings and emotions influences our behaviors positively. First, keeping nice feelings alive in our hearts has an encouraging impact in our life. They enrich the soul and provide it with happiness and strength to deal with problems and face daily difficulties effectively. On the contrary, all bad memories and feelings are forgettable and do not leave except regret and sorrow in our hearts. Moreover, they prevent us from going easy through the life and deprived us of keeping good feelings. As they have a negative influence on us and they all are forgettable, so forgiveness and forget of peoples' mistakes, especially those whom we live with, are the best healer to bad feelings. We are who decide whether to forget them or not. We should always remember that strong and nice relation with someone in our life should not be ended because of a silly puff. Then we would not give the daily clashes any attention, just let those "what we could forget" pass peacefully and time will completely heal all sorrows and hatreds.

Heart is the most important and greatest place to you, so keep it white and forgive your parents' mistakes, your brothers' and sisters' peccadilloes, and your friends' lapses. As you delete all bad feelings from your heart, you can fill it with love, peace, and good feelings. If you apply that, congratulations! You have a happy heart.

Research Papers / An Analysis of the Political Article "Hugs From Libyans" [NEW]

Find an article in a recent newspaper about a current political event in any part of the world. Then write an essay summarizing the major points of the article. After a brief one- paragraph summary, point out how you agree and/or disagree with the points made in the article. In your essay, cite one other source who agrees with your viewpoint. The essay should be about one and a half pages, double-spaced.

An Analysis of the Article "Hugs from Libyans"

Through his article Hugs from Libyans in NewyorkTimes newspaper, Nicholas D. Kristofe produced many evidences to prove that the military intervention in Libya was a true decision and a successful action. The intervention prevented a humanitarian catastrophe in addition to security interests and oil. He started his article with a story about an American airman and how Libyan villagers treated him. This led the author to that Libyans are very thankful to the coalition forces because they save Libyans' lives. The intervention is a reaction to the rule that United Nations have approved in 2005. Then, the writer mentioned many doubts about the military intervention and weighed them with few certainties: civilians would be died, the Qaddafi's family would be locked, and a wrong message would be sent. He finally expressed that though war is hateful but it is much better than "the systematic slaughter of civilians as the world turns a blind eye".

As the western countries declared, the motive behind the military intervention is to save civilians' lives and a response to the Arab League and Libyan rebels who approved this intervention to prevent a disaster. I agree with the writer that this intervention averted a humanitarian catastrophe but it can't be believed that it is motivated solely by concern for human life. Who bolstered Qaddafi and rehabilitated him? We watched Berlusconi kiss his hand and Clinton pose with his son Mutassim and Blair sit in his tent and announce a New Era, all when the brutality of the regime was being masked by the thinnest possible patina of change, the change of Saif's western bought PR. (Tasnim) "The hesitation in taking a position on the crimes committed by Qaddafi against Libyans while maintaining bridges with the Libyan regime indicates the stimulators of Western policies that care about nothing apart from oil, their interests and protecting Israel's security." (Nassar) Why they intervene in Libya to avert a humanitarian slaughter while there are many ongoing slaughters across the world? For example, the Syrian regime is pursuing his campaign of violence against his own people but the American and European political reactions are characterized by bootlicking and hesitation.

Some critics against the intervention make valid arguments, but they are weighed by certainties. I agree with this point but I think the cost of this aid is playing a major role in the American and European decision about the intervention. The intervention in Libya, of course, is an expensive operation and the Libyans will be charged to pay the cost as their country is rich oil. What if the humanitarian slaughter is happened in a poor country such as Syria, would they intervene to prevent a slaughter? According to experts, Libyans have to pay many billions to reconstruct their country.

Libyans are welcome to the foreign intervention because they have no choice except dying under Qaddafi's tanks. They prefer an Arabian intervention but it is unreliable. "The silence of the Arab states is not surprising, since a great majority of Arab states fear this wave of revolutions. Many Arab regimes want to have nothing to do with it, since it means chaos for them," said Dr. Azmi Bishara on Aljazeera Channel.

According to the news, the Arabian dictators have, unfortunately, received the wrong message that ruthlessness works. After the intervention, the Syrian dictator is still violently killing his nation and the Yemeni one is committing crimes to save his regime, but they both will meet the same destiny as Qaddafi.

Finally, though the intervention brought problems, it saved Libyans' lives and averted a humanitarian disaster. Libyans should now be care about that there is a "tremendous importance to the process of deepening the experience and resisting the powers that reject the revolution, powers which will continue their attempts to dominate the revolution and cripple its direction." (Nassar) Libyans should always remember the great words of their leader Omar Mukhtar that he said while stepping towards the gallows: "We do not give up; either we die or win".

For example, my childhood was about playing with my friends, traveling and going to entertainment places, and enjoying my life as much as possible for what iI am thankful for my parents.

I think you need the article (a) instead of (an) because the word (happiness) starts with a consonant sound not a vowel sound.

I think you need an article before the word (time)
Third of all, iI can say that it is also the time when you believe in magic

Second of all, iI am sure that

In conclusion, iI suppose that many

The pronounce (I) should be always written in the capital form.

Writing Feedback / Sat essay: Is conscience a more powerful motivation than fame, power or money? [3]

People often have two incentives: avarice and conscience.
I think you should explain incentives of what
For example, you can say:

People often have two incentives when setting goals: avarice and conscience.
or
When people try to achieve their goals, they often have two incentives: avarice and conscience.
or
Two common incentives can motivate people to achieve their goals: avarice and conscience.

However, people loyal to fame can preserve in the short term while those to consienceconscience forever.

FuthermoreFurthermore , as shown in cases above, individuals forsake avarice for moral objectives.

Undergraduate / Personal Narrative- My Broken Hand [3]

The Question:
Personal Narrative

My Broken Hand

I have just finished writing this board in several Arabic scripts. I looked at the panel for a while. Who can believe that this hand, who wrote these scripts, was one day unable to move, covered with splint, and hanged to my neck? My thoughts bring me back to an old experience that happened in my childhood fifteen years ago.

On a hot morning, after all my brothers and sisters went to their schools, my mother started doing the daily household chores. I and my little sister drank two glasses of milk as we used to do every day. Then, we started playing and tried to invent more interesting games. That day, the fantastic place for our game was my brother's bed. We got up the bed, went to its edge, then jump on the floor and warmly laughing. In the meantime, my mother arrived to the room where we were playing to vacuum it and wipe its floor. She looked at us and said while she was continuing her work, "what are you doing? Be careful not to drop while playing". We were engaged in our game so my mother words did not enter inside our ears. Then she left the room and continued her works. We also continued our interesting game. Many seconds later, my foot clenched by the bed edge and I fell down on my right hand when I was jumping on the floor. My mother ran back quickly as she heard me crying. My hand was hurting and curved in the middle. Difficult time passed. No car. No one could take me to a hospital. My father was abroad.

My mother brought a piece of cloth and tied it to hang my hand to my neck. She firmly said, "No more playing. You have to sit till we can go to the hospital." I obeyed silently though my hand was slightly still hurting me.

What happened to my hand? Can I play again? Can I draw and paint? Will I use only my left hand forever? I know that some people are left-handed and can naturally practice daily activities. I remembered also a video I have seen that was about a man without hands and did everything with his legs; writing, sewing, and even playing with balls. "I'm better than him of course," I said to myself. While thinking, I went into a deep sleep. In the afternoon, my brother came back from his school and was astonished when he saw my hand. As I and my mother were ready, we immediately went to the nearest hospital by taxi. The hospital in the neighborhood was lacking advanced technology so the doctor advised us to go to the hospital that is in the downtown.

An hour later, my hand was covered with a white splint and hanged on my neck by a strip of gauze which let me feel as I was carrying a heavy thing that prevents me from moving freely. Now, I can't play as I was doing many days ago. I had to accommodate with the new situation; eating by the left hand, learn writing from the scratch. Many days later, I became more familiar with my new heavy hand. Every time I had a shower, Mom covered the splint with a nylon case to make it away of water as possible as she could. The only one benefit of this splint was using it as a shield from hits of our neighbor children.

After three months, my father came back from abroad. He picked up me to the hospital to take out the splint. I was happy and afraid simultaneously. How will they take it off? Will not the doctor cut my hand by mistake while cutting the splint? Will I be able to use my hand again like my sisters?

"Dad, how will the doctor take out this splint?" I asked my father fearfully. "They will use a special tool that stops working as it faces the hand," he kindly answered. Then, I feel a little of reassuring. As we arrived to the hospital and entered the orthopedics department, I saw a lot of rooms. Some of doors are opened which allowed me to see what happened inside but I did not see anything important. As we approached the wanted room, I heard a child crying. I became afraid again. Why is this baby crying? Is he afraid? Do not they hurt him? I asked again. "No. Be assured please. They will not hurt you and you will be happy after they finish." When we entered, the doctor asked me to sit on the chair. He brought his tool. It was not scary. He turned it on and it started making an annoying voice that pierced my ears. As he applied the tool on the splint in straight line from my elbow to my wrist, the splint fell down. I saw my hand; it seemed weak and wrinkled. Some small pieces of cotton were spread on my hand. I flicked them out.

I spent the home way looking at my hand, touching it to be sure that there is no pain, and moving it up and down. When we arrived home, my mother was waiting us with open arms at the door. We all in the house celebrate this event and my family members gave me a nice gift. It was a special day. It made me feel how much they are kind and love me.

This experience was rich and added to me a lot of values. When I missed the use of an important organ of my body, I recognize how important it was. I became more aware of healthy habits and good food that help me maintain fit and healthy. This experience also enhanced the relation with my family. They helped me whenever I need which supported me to pass the experience with positive psychological feelings. It also taught me special skill such as writing with my left hand. I think it is very important to teach and train myself to do various tasks and master several skills. This will help me to deal more effectively with such a situation. Though some experiences seem difficult when they happen, but they improve our personalities and teach us a lot of lesson that will support us in our life.
