Writing Feedback / Food preperation is easier to prepare. Has it improved peoples' lives? [4]

Qustion; Nowadays, food has become easier to prepare. Has this change improved the way people live? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

Technological advancement during the twentieth century has brought out amazing solutions for food preparation. The modern methods and appliances of cooking are much more convenient, efficient and reliable in contrast to the conventional methods and appliances that were used by earlier generation to prepare food.

To begin with, the modern cooking appliances have a taken a dramatic leap forward in enabling people to prepare their food quickly and more conveniently. For example, microwave ovens and electric burners cook much faster than old stoves. Also they do not require human vigilance during cooking, since they have inbuilt capabilities to convert their cooking mode to non cooking mode. However conventional appliances such as kerosene oil cookers and old stoves required the person to watch over when he or she was cooking in order to avoid the food becoming over heated and inedible.

In addition, there are many prepackaged ingredients and pre cooked food items available in supermarkets. People can easiy purchase and them and use for their food preparation. For example, in my country, "Biriyani" is a dish of rice with an authentic flavor. Several ingredients should be added into rice while cooking in order to obtain this special flavor. My mother used to make these ingredients at home by grinding and pounding different spices in required quantities. However, today, the Biriyani flavor is readily available in the market and it is a matter of purchasing the packaged flavor and follow the instructions printed on the package while cooking.

More over, there are many pre cooked food items available in the markets, such as naan, bread, sausages, smoked chicken etc. These precooked foods can be soon made into edible meals by heating up in a microwave oven for a very short time. When we think of earlier generations they did not enjoy such facilities.

However there is much controversy about these modern methods and appliances of cooking. The opponents argue that new methods destroy much of nutrient value of the food and leave the possibility to contain unhealthy chemicals in the food. Despite these facts, the modern ways of food preparation have helped people to find effective solutions for their busy lives with respect to food preparation in terms of convenience, efficiency and reliability.

Writing Feedback / SPACE EXPLORATION IS A WASTEFUL ACTIVITY - AGREE? [4]

QUESTION;
Millions of dollars are being spent on space exploration in the modern days. Some space critics point out that watching the new trend, a huge sum of money is being spent on wasteful activities. What is your point of view?

I am of the view that spending money on space exploration should not be considered as a wasteful activity. Although many critics argue that space travels have never achieved any major scientific breakthroughs compared to the major costs they involve, by considering the ongoing benefits they generate, some economic analyses have proved it otherwise. Moreover there are many other reasons to argue why space exploration is very important to the mankind;

First and foremost, the space exploration helps us understand the universe that we live in; gather knowledge and understanding of different celestial bodies around us. According to many scientists, this is very important for the survival of mankind since the species on a single planet would very much likely to become extinct in the long run due to various reasons. Lack of natural resources, occurrence of accidents such as comets hitting the earth, nuclear war and worldwide epidemic are some of these reasons. Therefore the idea of extending the human habitat out from Earth into the solar system as we go forward in time is not a bad idea. This is why the renowned scientist, Sir Arthur C. Clarke, once stated that humanity's choice is essentially between expansion off the Earth into space, versus cultural stagnation and death.

Secondly, space exploration promotes advancing scientific research that has led the mankind to enjoy many benefits. For example, there are many commercial products that use the space technology such as rain water purification systems for developing countries, satellite radio, digital and satellite television, cellular phone technology, cordless tools, GPS navigation systems etc. In addition to that, the contribution of space technology to the field of medicine is commendable. It has been instrumental in introducing digital hearing aids, miniature heart pumps, cancer detection devices, common smoke devices etc. Moreover, the satellites in the space help us forecast weather accurately while help prevent the occurrences of natural calamities.

Thirdly, although there is criticism that space exploration has often been used as a proxy competition for geopolitical rivalries such as the Cold War in the early era, today this competition has transformed into form of collaboration that help uniting world nations. The international space station is a good example for this collaborative effort of the world powers such as USA, Russia, France, Japan etc.

Of course, there are many other activities taking place in the world such as waging war and manufacturing nuclear weapons that involve billions of dollars and do not contribute positively to the betterment of the world. On the contrary, the money spent on space exploration does not bring such disastrous effects to the world. Instead it has impacted positively towards the development of human society as described in the previous paragraphs. Therefore I conclude that space exploration cannot be considered as a wasteful activity.

Writing Feedback / UNEDUCATED Vs EDUCATED (WHO TEACHES WHO?) [5]

QUESTION; There is nothing that an uneducated person can teach educated person

I do not agree with the idea that there is nothing that uneducated people can teach educated people. I certainly agree that education is very complementary for one's knowledge and wisdom. However, it is not the only way that a person gains knowledge or wisdom. People gain knowledge from experience as well. Therefore uneducated people too possess valuable knowledge which they have acquired through experience.

First, it is not fair to undermine the level of intelligence or wisdom of an uneducated person. Due to various socio economic reasons such as poverty, political instability, cast constraints, etc., some smart people are deprived of receiving a good education. However, they can be intellectuals with very high wisdom and may be in a position to guide many educated people in the right path. For example, Mao Tsetung, the first chairman of the Chinese Republic, did not receive any formal education and therefore he can hardly be called an educated person. However he vividly exhibited his outstanding intellectuality and visionary thinking to the world. Many educated people can still learn important lessons from Mao's character.

Secondly, some uneducated people who are not very intelligent may still be smarter than many educated people in their respective fields. For example, our car mechanic has never stepped into a school. He is illegible and quite low in his intellectual capacity. However he has mastered the job of a motor mechanic. Therefore my father, a doctor with a sound educational background, relies on the advice of this mechanic when ever his car gives engine problems. I have seen in many instances that this mechanic teaching my father how to fix minor engine issues.

Finally, there is no difference between educated or uneducated when it comes to humanity. There are instances that educated people get inspired by the uneducated people who influence them with great sense of humanity. Today, I am an educated person having a master's degree. However it was my grandmother, who has never attended school, who influenced all my academic accomplishments. She taught me very important lessons by setting examples herself. I observed her working very hard to achieve her simple goals and followed her steps until I reached my grand goals.

Therefore, I believe it is unfair to judge people on their educational backgrounds. After all everybody has something special about themselves. Therefore, in my conclusion, I stress that educated people have lot to learn from the uneducated people.

Writing Feedback / TOEFL: MONEY is not necessarily be the most important aspect of a job always! [2]

Hello,
Can you help me to improve my essay!

QUESTION;Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
The most important aspect of a job is the money a person earns. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

Money is certainly an important aspect of a job which helps one to earn his or her living. However, I personally do not agree that it is the most important aspect of a job, since I consider the factors such as recognition, job satisfaction and work environment are equally as important as money.

Firstly, recognition plays an important role for a person to like his or her job. If your hard work is not acknowledged by the management, you get very depressed. For example, my pervious employer who paid me well for my job never wanted to acknowledge my efforts to improve the company sales. I felt that I was not recognized for my hard work and decided to leave the company. In this case, it was not any issue with regard to my salary that compelled me to leave the job. It was because they did not give me due recognition.

Secondly, one needs to be satisfied with the job he or she does. Without this job satisfaction, a person would be very stressful and bored. My sister found a job with an excellent package in the accounting field. However, after two years, she started complaining that her job was becoming very boring and stressful. She started applying to other jobs and soon found another one. Her job was again in the accounting field; however, the new company was in a different field of business.

Thirdly, the work environment too largely contributes to motivate employees. If one has problems in his or her office environment, the chances are very unlikely that he/she would remain in the same job. Some employers too deliberately create such unpleasant environments to persuade its employees to take the decision of quitting. For example, the management of my company recruited a marketing consultant by offering a very high salary with other perks. However he failed to produce the results expected by the management. The management created difficult situations for this consultant and he finally decided to leave the company because the office environment became very unbearable for him.

These reasons have led me to conclude that money is not the most important aspect of a job though it is one of the most important aspects.
