Undergraduate / A Frog Among the Fish; Supplement about being Brazilian [10]

Brazil is a rare combination of a primitive and utopian lifestyle

You're effectively saying Brazil is a lifestyle? Just doesn't seem very right there.. BUT nice analogy in the opening! strong intro.

Undergraduate / Business Knowledge; USC Supplement/ Academic interests [3]

Any feedback is welcome and NEEDED. Thanks!

Describe your academic interests and how you plan to pursue them at USC. Please feel free to address your first- and second-choice major selections.

Since young I enjoy spending my spare time on my wide range of interests and hobbies. As I grow up, I tried to incorporate some business flare into these hobbies of mine, such as sharing my fascination for education under the education brand UrbanEDU, extending my taste in fashion through my very own clothing brand Jeez., or even further my interest in film by directing and editing mini-films myself. Business and technology happen to dominate my academic interests, for I would tirelessly work on my websites and online stores for endless nights for leisure. Marshall is a perfect match for me in that its business administration program not only can equip me with business basics that help me to run a business, but also encapsulates an eclectic collection of elective units that may provide me flexibility in my future career. The ability to choose more than one minor in addition to my BA major at USC is what I look forward to in my future 4 years of undergraduate study, where I am able to fully explore and find out my true passion, such as fusing my technological expertise with business knowledge to generate bigger ideas that could benefit the local community in a revolutionary manner.

Undergraduate / Trekking; Common App Activity [2]

Any feedback will be very much appreciated, THANKS!

Please briefly elaborate on one of your extracurricular activities or work experiences in the space below (1000 character maximum).

Raindrops were smashing into the cover of our tent horrendously. This is an activity that started with over twenty participants, and ended with six. With over twenty kilograms of weight on my back, and over forty hours of trekking completed, I felt both the physical pressure of the rucksack and the mental pressure for me to finish the hike. Exhausted, I huddled up to keep myself warm in my sleeping bag. It's my second night out in the wild and I started figuring what this all meant to me. The obstacles and hardships we had overcame as a team in the day were probably the most challenging thing that ever happened to me in my whole life. I could always picture a 'city boy' crying for his momma and it would make me feel slightly better. In fact, I felt lonelier than ever - just this morning, the other group had forfeited and we were now all on our own. Yet I never had any regrets. Fear was not an option. Because deep down in my heart I knew that, behind all that time devoted, I am now an independent man with a hardened spirit. I have faith that over time, this experience will prove itself invaluable in my future.

Undergraduate / NYU Supplement - "What Intrigues You?"Intricacies of Language and its transformations [3]

Feedback is very much appreciated, thanks!!

What intrigues you? Tell us about one work of art, scientific achievement, piece of literature, method of communication, or place in the world (a film, book, performance, website, event, location, etc.), and explain its significance to you.

The intricacies of language and the way it has transformed in the past decades have never failed to intrigue me. Whether it is verbal or written, western or eastern, the magnificence of its manipulability has put me into deliberation not only once. Interschool debating has gifted me experience where I ponder how does one's wording affect the audience's emotions? Extensive study of language and culture in both English and Chinese lessons have prompted me to wonder what triggers the evolution of language and how does it influence the people using it? That's right. Communication among people, ultimately, is my inherent curiosity. My pursuit of understanding how language can alter the way one perceives the speaker's message is demonstrated by my intoxication in negotiation books. In other scenarios, Obama's speech, for instance, the ability to seamlessly blend inspiring emotions with articulate expression amazes me. As we study the language of persuasion, the sensational techniques featured in editorials resonates with my own experience and delivers the message in a much more personal and powerful way than a piece of writing would simply present. At the end of the day, I long to fuse my keen insight and experience in language, a major method of communication, into business, where mutual understanding and corporation are essential factors critical to success.

Undergraduate / NYU Undergrad Supplement - What are your own academic interests? computer science [6]

Hey there! I know I'm doing this a bit late but that's why I need advice on how I could improve my NYU supplements - Thanks so much!

I hope to apply to Stern and take a minor if not major in computer science. I am aware that it is going to be very selective and therefore I really want to have a good essay!

A. NYU's global network provides students with hundreds of academic areas of interest for students to cultivate their intellectual curiosity and to help achieve their career goals. Whether you are entirely undecided about your academic plans or you have a definitive program of study in mind, what are your own academic interests? Feel free to share any thoughts on any particular programs or how you might explore those interests at NYU on any of our campuses.

I've had all sorts of crazy dreams when I was young, yet I retained a keen passion for business related activities and was proactive in grasping opportunities that allowed me to meet new people. The business program at Stern provides a holistic approach into the major - whether it is the technical, or social dimensions in business like leadership. As I mature, I've learned a more practical approach, focusing on actions more than merely spoken. Having a strong mathematical background, I indulged in reading almost every single bit of information about technology too. It is then I went on to build my very first desktop and follow the latest news of technology. NYU stands as a perfect match for me as it does provide me with the opportunity to pursue a minor in a different area of study like computer science.

A keen insight into how human relations work have also prepared me well for my recent leadership roles in school. Stern's social impact core would help to extend my expertise in such. Meanwhile, my growing admiration for numerous successful technology leaders have reaffirmed my innate enthusiasm in business and computer science. Fond of dealing with people, I wish to combine these two of my talents to unite students at NYU to revolutionize a field that is perceived to be common and make a true impact in the world. For instance, as a founder of a clothing brand and an online education site, I would like to redefine the way clothes are sold, or the way students are taught, just like Steve Jobs did with the iPhone. The opportunities and diversity within NYU combined with its geological edge would facilitate my goal to make a difference in the society.
