Graduate / I will exceed your expectations; Master in communications, personal statement [5]

I kindly ask to check my personal statement for applying for a Master degree in Communications. What is your general impression and recommendations about it?

To whom it may concern:

I would like to express my desire to study at the *** University in for 2013/14 academic year. I am applying for the Master degree in Communications from the Ecole de la communication.

To start with my academic background, I am currently studying Socio-Cultural Business for my last semester at the Saint Petersburg University of Humanities and Social Sciences, Russia. In May 2013 I will graduate with a specialist honors degree with an expected GPA of 5.0 (100%) which puts me among top three students at my university. Alongside this program I was doing a course in Conflict Management which was invented with the support of Vladimir Putin. I had finished this course with a bachelor degree and with a GPA of 4.8 out of 5 in December 2012.

In 2011 I have had a great opportunity to study abroad - I was chosen to participate in Erasmus Program and went for one semester to the University of Applied Sciences in Ludwigshafen, Germany. This experience gave me not only academic knowledge but also a capacity to adapt to a multicultural society.

As a part of my studying process I am a member of Student's Scientific Society, in which every year I participate in the Annual Science Student Conference. One of my projects called "Corporate Identity and Corporate Image as the Foundation for Corporate Communication" won the first place in my university and was chosen to participate in the All-Russian competition of student's projects.

Besides studying I regularly participate in university activities. Being an Ambassador of my university and a tutor for first-year students, I developed my presentation and interpersonal communication skills. Moreover, as a member of a Student Council I am liable for conducting such activities as student's competitions, concerts, games etc. I hope to apply my organizational attainments in *** students' community by providing international evenings, games and workshops. I believe this would give every student an opportunity to learn more about other cultures, traditions and ways of living. In the future I am planning to create a network for young specialists and leaders to help them find like-minded persons, share experiences and assist in solving different business problems.

Since childhood my parents taught me to be an honest and hardworking person and I do my best to follow their advice. I consider myself as an energetic and motivated individual who is able to study and work hard. I try not to waste every day of my life so I do a lot for self-educating. First of all, I really love learning foreign languages. Among English I also know French and German at the intermediate level. While studying in *** I'm planning to learn French better and perhaps take some courses in French during second semester. Furthermore, I participate actively in a social life of my city. As a member of a Russian Youth Volunteer Society I regularly take part in volunteer programs such as visiting orphanages and boarding schools for children with disabilities for organizing fun activities and games.

As for my other personal qualities I can mention my purpose and leadership skills. As a student I used to participate in a huge variety of group projects. I was often a team leader responsible for information gathering, role distribution, coordinating dates and interpersonal activities. Each time I headed the project our team achieved only the best results.

The motivation to take a degree in communications was firmed into a determination during my studying and working experience. On the second year of studying I have had a course in Marketing taught by a greatest professor I ever met. He has a wide experience in teaching and living in Europe, so he taught us really practical moments from modern European practice. His lectures have instilled me an interest in marketing and communications, so I decided to focus on that during my studying and working processes.

At the moment I am doing an internship in a marketing communications agency. I find this area really interesting and exciting, thus it pushed me even more to pursue a Master degree in Communications.

The decision to study at the *** University came to me after I have read a description of this program and courses included in it. I found the courses offered are very relevant for my professional goals. Further the opportunities for visiting guest lectures and practical workshops would broaden my perspectives about modern media and marketing.

During my studying at *** I will focus on such topics as Marketing and Brand Communications, Strategic Corporate Communications, Brand, Digitals and Creatives, Brands International Management. I have a strong interest in these fields and, moreover, my researches done during my studies are closely linked with it as well as my working experience. While preparing a dissertation I want to combine all my knowledge received from my multidisciplinary studying. In my future dissertation I want to make a comparative analysis of modern Russian and French politics who are seen as brands of these countries: for instance, Putin and Sarkozy. They both are very bright and well-known persons in the whole world. What makes them so famous and compel attention to their activities? What marketing tools do they use during their work? I hope that living in Paris, the heart of Europe, will provide all the resources needed and assist me in making such a research.

After having studied in France I am planning to work in an international marketing or media company alongside doing a PhD course and making the network for young specialists as I told above.

Considering all the facts above I can assure you that as a student at the *** University I will exceed your expectations and bring a high level of academic intellect, energy and creativity.

Sincerely,
Olesya

Writing Feedback / " The Best Things in Life are Free" ; Yes, this is very true! [5]

When I was a child, my mother usually reminded me that: "The best things in life are free."

For a long time I have been thinking about it and soon I realized that this is definitely true.

dumi

In May 2013 I will graduate with a specialist special honors degree with an expected GPA of 5.0 (100%) which puts me among top three students at my university.

Specialist - means my real degree) In Russia this is a degree for 5-years study. Bachelor is for 4 years. And I will get them both.

Writing Feedback / 'Children learn at home the basic values of life such as love, respect, honesty' [3]

Not bad essay. I would grade it 6-6.5
But, to my opinion, you should add more general introduction, e.g. "The issue of whether school education is better than lessons taught by parents, is of a great concern. It is vitally important for children to communicate with the peers as well to get some social experience from people the trust most of all - their parents".

The same about a conclusion. It should be general. "Thus, to my opinion, ...."
Try to add some phraseologies like "This problem is double-edged sword. From one side... But oppositely, ..."
I would advise you to make such a scheme for Task 2 essays:
-Introduction
-"For"
-"Against"
-Conclusion with your opinion.
And a small advice from my experience: while attending real IELTS test don't waste time writing in draft. Start writing right on an answer sheet.

Good luck ;-)

Letters / Recommendation letter for a student, for Holland, Media Studies [2]

I wrote a reference letter for a student, who wants to study Media in Netherlands. What do you think about it?

To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing this recommendation letter for XXX, who I strongly recommend for the admission to YYY University. I have known her since 2009 in the capacity of her professor and supervisor of one of her term papers.

XXX attended the following courses I teach: Art Management and Technology of Exhibition Business. As her supervisor I helped her while she was doing a research on Corporate Identity and Corporate Image as the Foundation for Corporate Communication. This paper had not only won the XVI Annual Contest of Students' Research Works but was also chosen to participate in the All-Russian Competition of Students' Projects in 2010. For all the years I've known her I had an opportunity to observe her goals, skills and abilities and I can certainly say that she is a mature, ambitious and hardworking person.

XXX has always been involved in a lot of projects, varying from educational tasks to extracurricular activities. As she has been studying at our Chair of Socio-Cultural Technologies she provided us a great help conducting Open Days and web-conferences for prospective students as well as being an Ambassador of our University. Further, she is always ready to take part in different conferences and seminars, to prepare reports and speeches which are always very thoughtful.

I gladly confirm that XXX is one the most brilliant students not only in her group but also among many other students of our University. I was really impressed about her deep knowledge in different fields, about her sharp intellect and ability to ask serious and thought-provoking questions. XXX is a really enthusiastic person who wills to discuss various topics and isn't afraid to express her own point of view, even if it is different from others'. She is always looking for a new challenge, for an opportunity to develop her skills and find something yet unknown for her.

XXX is a very initiative and sociable person, she can easily find a common ground with both teachers and students. I can surely call her a self-reliant individual with strong leadership skills. She is able to take responsibility for her actions and achieve her goals. For a long time XXX has been a group leader, ready to help and to explain unclear parts to every student donating her own time.

Her academic achievements are really impressive. For 4,5 years she didn't get any mark different from 5, so her expecting GPA is 5.0, what happens rather seldom. Due to her achievements, XXX was a fourfold winner of a tuition fee reduction up to 95% for the upcoming academic year.

In my view, XXX is a type of person who has the potential to achieve a great success in both academic and career activities. I am confident that with her combination of creativeness, intelligence, enthusiasm and perseverance she will with no doubt become a worthy student of your University.

Sincerely,
ZZZ ZZZ,

Graduate / I am studying Socio-Cultural Business; MA in Media Studies, Motivation letter [4]

I am planning to apply for Master degree in Media Culture in Netherlands, so this is my letter of motivation.

As a member of a Russian Youth Volunteer Society I regularly take part in volunteer programs such as visiting orphanages and boarding schools for children with disabilities for organizing fun activities and games. The motivation to study media was firmed into a determination during my volunteering and working experience. As I used to interact a lot with children, I was really surprised about how much modern media influences them. During my studies at YYY University I am planning to make a research project concerning internet culture and virtual realities and their affects on children's mind. I hope that my knowledge in Conflict Management and Psychology will help me in it. Besides, I am planning to base my research on the work of Jean Baudrillard "Simulacra and Simulation" who spoke about blurring the line between products that are vital and products for which a need is created artificially.

After having studied in Netherlands I am planning to return to Russia. My future career ambition is to work in a Ministry of Culture in Russia alongside doing a PhD. I hope that my future job will let me to apply all the skills received during my undergraduate and personal studies.

Considering all the facts above I can assure you that as a student at the YYY University I will exceed your expectations and bring a high level of academic intellect, energy and creativity to your campus.

Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to the opportunity to study at the YYY University.

Sincerely,
XXX

Graduate / Question: Do I need to put title for SOP? [9]

1. Do I need a title? Is it necessary?

Scholarship letters usually don't require to be titled. If it was not mentioned, I think you don't have to title it

2. Do I start it off with "Dear sir/madam," followed by the 1st paragraph?

You can start with "Dear Selection Committee", or "Dear Scholarship Committee" or simply "To Whom it May Concern". But if you know exactly the name of a person responsible for it, you can start with "Dear Mr. Brown"

3. Do I put the page number on the header?

There are only 2 pages, I don't think you should put numbers on it.

by putting my essay on this site, how do I know that they won't say it is plagiarism?

You can provide your profile information of course, but I don't really think the selection committee will post messages here :)

Letters / Intelligent,Sociable&Goal-Seeking; Recommendation letter-Master program from a prof [4]

Please help me with a reference letter. Is it enough information or it should include more?

To Whom It May Concern:

It is my pleasure to recommend*** for admission to Master Program at the *** University. I have known Miss *** for more than three years, since she was a student in my Foundations of Management and Foundations of Marketing classes.

*** is a truly outstanding student who has already accumulated a long list of achievements in both academic and extra-curricular activities. She has always been the best performer in her group who secured only excellent grades during her undergraduate studies. Further, she was rated among the top 1% of students from St. Petersburg University of Humanities and Social Sciences.

I have perceived *** as a hardworking person who has a great enthusiasm in improving and furthering her knowledge. She can be learning all the time, managing the details, involved in all the communications. *** can conduct her own researches independently as well as work in a group. Even now I can already see that she is a perfect group leader who can keep her eyes on the big picture and delegate detailed tasks to the appropriate people. She can not only choose the right strategy and ways of goals achieving, but she also is responsible for a whole group she heads. She has an amazing capacity to interact well with her peers as well as with people in authority.

Miss *** has also really well-developed presentation and public speaking skills. Her oral presentations and reports at student's conferences were very clear and thoughtful, they were well-received by her classmates and professors. She is articulate and able to express herself very well in formal situations and in informal discussions.

In 2011 I was a tutor for the study abroad program held in cooperation by both St. Petersburg University of Humanities and Social Sciences and Fachhochschule Ludwigshafen, Germany. Miss *** was the only student chosen to participate in this program. During her period in Germany she took part in a lot of international workshops, seminars and conferences what shows her as a cosmopolitan person. Upon her graduation from this course, I received high reviews from my foreign colleagues about her academic results.

Personally, I can attest to Miss ***'s maturity and commitment to studies. Basing on capacity I know her I can highlight how seriously and responsibly she approaches her studies. She does her work mindfully, always seeking out course work that challenges her and are difficult to the others, and she has a great aptitude for fulfilling her responsibilities in a great variety of activities. Her extra-curricular activity's list is really impressive. *** is a member a Student's Scientific Society, Management Club and Student Council. Besides, she is an Ambassador of our University and a tutor for first-year students. Her accomplishments will certainly make her a highly recruited person.

I believe, *** is a very intelligent, sociable and goal-seeking person who is ready to achieve success. I can with no doubt recommend her to be chosen for a Master program because I am totally sure she will perform successfully.

Sincerely,

***,

Speeches / What you gon' do with all that junk?""- BAD MUSIC; Global Issue [3]

This "rubbish" music is mostly rhythmic and energetic. People listening to it don`t rather care about words - they just need to dance or they are just in a good mood.

Don't forget about capital letters. And Beyonce and Chris Brown are without "a".
May be you can say that today people are just lost in a abundance of a pop music, they can't separate quality and fake.

At all - really very informal report.

Scholarship / "Questioning my desire"; Scholarship for a PhD/ Why I deserve it? [4]

Good essay, I think. But may be you need to decipher all the abbreviations?

UNFCC, SGS, and EA

Perhaps, you should also include some concrete goals of your PhD research? You describe current situation but give a little information about what you really are to do.

Being an Ambassador of my university and a tutor for first-year students helped me a lot for developing my presentation and interpersonal communication skills", "Speaking about my extracurricular activities I can mention my hobby - that is studying foreign languages (French and German in addition to English, planning to study Chinese) and modern dancing. Besides, I am a member of a Russian Youth Volunteer Society so I regularly participate in volunteer programs visiting an orphanage and a boarding school for children with disabilities for organizing fun activities and games. Graduate / MA in Marketing Management (UK), Letter of Motivation [7]

Hello! I kindly ask anybody who have experience in writing or checking motivation letters to help me with it! is it enough information or should I add or cut smth? thank you.

To whom it may concern:

I would like to express my desire to study at the University of **** in for 2013/14 academic year. I am applying for the Master degree in Marketing Management. Having read all the testimonials about **** Business School and visited educational fairs and consultations with job advisors I became assured that this program best suites my goals in both studying and future career.

At the moment I am studying Socio-Cultural Business in my last, tenth semester at the Saint Petersburg University of Humanities and Social Sciences, Russia. In May 2013 I will graduate with a specialist honors degree with an expecting GPA of 5.0 (100%) which puts me among top three students at my university. Alongside with this program I was doing a course in Conflict Management which was invented with the support of V. Putin. I had finished this course with a bachelor degree with GPA of 4.8 out of 5 in December 2012.

Speaking about my educational background I can't help but to mention my experience in studying abroad. In 2011 I was chosen to participate in Erasmus program and went for one semester to the University of Applied Sciences in Ludwigshafen, Germany. This simultaneous interdisciplinary education expands the sphere of my future career possibilities and gives me more knowledge in different business sectors. Due to it, I am able to have a greater understanding of current problems of marketing in Russia.

The reason which underscored my desire to take a Master course in Marketing Management is that I want not only to assess the role of marketing from global perspectives but also to apply my skills and received knowledge for developing this specific area on an international scale and in Russia in particular.

The modern problems of marketing in Russia have become very crucial especially after its' entering to the WTO in September 2012. Besides, the experience I have from making my research project devoted to the specific features and the prospects of marketing developing in Russia shows the ambiguous conditions of Russian market formation and economical immaturity of Russian market that impedes the growth of some areas of marketing. This has led me to the decision of taking this course even more, because it will give me a chance to develop international collaboration in the sphere of marketing.

As for my personal qualities I can mention my purposefulness and leadership skills. As a student I used to participate in a huge variety of group projects such as writing business-plans and designing marketing strategies for different sorts of companies. I was often a team leader responsible for information gathering, role distribution, coordinating dates and interpersonal activities. Each time I headed the project our team achieved only the best results.

In addition to my academic achievements I have working experience in different fields what has allowed me to improve my communication skills, learn about the inside mechanisms of organizations' functioning and learn consumer needs and expectations. I am certain that this experience will help me in the future not only in working but also in studying.

Considering all the facts above I can assure you that having become a student at the University of **** I will exceed your expectations and bring a high level of academic progress, energy and creativity to your campus.

Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to my application being accepted.

Sincerely yours,
Olesya Fedorenko
