Hello,

I never wrote anything online, it's my first time but I really need a feedback. I would like to have a review for my PS for the KGS please. I read lot of things about personal statement online and I tried to put interesting thing but it looks long. I don't know what I should delete.

When I was eleven years old, I met my aunt during winter holidays and noticed burn marks on her arm and neck. Intrigued and curious , I asked my mum about the about them. It was later revealed that she had been a journalist in her home country, and unknown people attempted to burn her alive due to an article that displeased certain individuals. Growing up, my parents were against pursuing risky professions like my aunt's. However, at the age of eleven, her indomitable spirit left a profound impression on me, portraying her as an person who is devoted to tell the truth above all else. This impactful experience became the catalyst for my decision to major in literature in high school and engage in volunteering for the school newspapers. In alignment with Sartre's assertion, "As I talk, I reveal the situation... I reveal it to myself and to others in order to change it," being able to communicate an idea, education and informing is a powerful job.Over the years, the media has evolved into one of the most influential entities globally. The combination of its power, social dimension, and dynamic, ever-changing nature has primarily motivated my choice to pursue higher education in this field.

During my undergraduate studies, I had the privilege of pursuing Korean Studies in Paris, specifically at INALCO, renowned as the most prestigious institution for such studies at the time. My inclination towards this major was a natural progression, stemming from my high school history classes where I delved into the Korean War and the history of China. This exploration ignited a profound curiosity for Asian history and Korean culture.Studying Korean Studies not only gratified my intellectual interests but also allowed me to develop my ability to learn another langages. Within the realm of Korean Studies, I specialized in Business, allowing me to tailor my academic journey to align with both my passion for the subject matter and practical career objectives.

My exploration of Korean Studies served as my gateway into the rich history of Korea, while courses on civilization deepened my understanding of Korea's societal evolution. As I progressed to my second year of university, I encountered the need to diversify my studies. Unable to pursue communication, I opted for business, discovering an unexpected fascination for its intricacies. I learned about fundamental economic principles and the impact of global events on markets proved to be intellectually challenging. My favorite curse was Marketing, which unraveled the intricacies of effective communication in selling products or services. This newfound interest in communication became the catalyst for my pursuit of graduate studies.Outside the academic realm, I actively volunteered with KoreanNParis, an organization dedicated to promoting Korean culture in Paris. Primarily involved in creating posters and collaborating with fellow students in the communication department, I gained valuable insights into time management and teamwork. These experiences during my university years significantly contributed to my personal and professional development.

When it come to health I didn't had the good deal of privilege in my life. Following my graduation, I faced the reality of having to discontinue my studies. In 2021, after completing my degree, I actively searched for a graduate degree in media and communication. However, life took an unexpected turn when my mother experienced a heart attack in November 2021. This event compelled me to prioritize her well-being and devote myself to making her life more manageable.Recognizing the urgent need for financial resources, especially for her surgery and overall health, I made the difficult decision to halt any further academic pursuits after completing my degree in Korean studies. Instead, I redirected my focus to briefly stop studying.

Throughout this gap year, I seized the opportunity to cultivate hobbies and enhance my communication skills across various media tools. Working at a hotel in Paris, I found myself fortunate to contribute to the visual and written aspects of the establishment. During my shifts, I created posters for the hotel and participated in crafting informative content for its website when I wasn't working at the reception. In addition to my professional experiences, I dedicated time to exploring the cultural scene. I attended numerous art exhibitions, delved into literature, and indulged in painting. One notable exhibition I visited showcased the work of the photographer Elliot Erwitt. His work was focus on the significance of legacy left a lasting impression on me. Erwitt's ability to use pictures and words to educate and inform about diverse subjects underscored the profound impact that communication can have in leaving a lasting legacy and making a meaningful mark on the world.

In reality, I find it remarkable, inspiring, and somewhat daunting how the media wields control over our lives, offering both cultural richness and potential pitfalls. My fascination lies in the intricate dynamics and impacts of human communication in all its forms, and I am eager to expand upon the insights I have acquired thus far. My longstanding ambition is to become a journalist capable of effectively communicating on issues and events that shape the world.Through the Communication and Media graduate degree at XXX University under the Global Korean Scholarship Program, I see the opportunity to refine the skills necessary to fulfill this ambition. This program will allow me to immerse myself in Korean and Asian communication practices, gaining invaluable insights and understanding from a sociological perspective within the realm of media studies. This experience will provide me with essential tools to navigate media-related industries and equip me with the critical analysis needed to discern how the media reflects and influences the world. This journey is not only a step towards achieving my career goals but also an avenue for personal and intellectual growth.

Within this course of study, I intend to delve into the profound impact of media on shaping public opinion and the strategic use of tools to accentuate these changes. Winston Churchill's remark, "There is no such thing as public opinion. There is only published opinion," underscores the notion that the media not only influences but actively constructs public opinion. My research will focus on how the dissemination of information through media platforms refines public understanding and perspectives. I aim to explore how the presented information shapes the discourse, offering limited access to diverse viewpoints and alternative narratives. Studying at XXX University and participating in the Global Korean Scholarship program will facilitate interaction and network building, essential components for adapting to societal dynamics. Engaging with students from various nations will play a major role in developing my sensitivity to diverse cultures, fostering tolerance for cultural ambiguity, and nurturing an appreciation for cultural uniqueness. This immersive experience aligns with my academic goals, providing a platform to explore the intricate relationship between media and the public opinion.

At the age of eleven, I grasped the significance of communication and the major influence wielded by media. I firmly believe that media organizations bear the power and responsibility of shaping and the public opinion significantly. If afforded the opportunity to blaze in the GKS Program, I am poised to contribute the profound lessons garnered from my personal, academic, and professional experiences. My insatiable curiosity and educational ambition, coupled with a positive inclination and the resilience to overcome challenges, align seamlessly with the dynamic environment in Korea. My journey through the GKS Program will not only be personally enriching but also bring forth valuable contributions.

I thank you for consideration of my application.

I am unable to offer you advice aligned with your university KGS application at this point. You have blanked out the university reference, making it difficult for me to consider what the university may be looking for in a student, as it aligns with the scholarship application. It is difficult for me to offer you direction at this point because you admit to not being a graduate of media communications, yet you want to pursue it as a masters course. While you do have the experience to reference I am not sure if it will be enough to create a strong reference point for your application. These are the reasons why I need the university name. Only when I know where you applying to will I be able to provide you with more relevant advice.

Hello, thank you for your answer. Actually I want to go at Yonsei or Hanyang university. Do you think it will be better to delete some informations from the university reference ? And regarding the major, I don't know if it's still enough but my study plan is already done and I don't think it will be a problem for me to study it. But as you said it will be hard to be accept it.
