WHY DID YOU CHOOSE YOUR PROPOSED COURSE AND INSTITUTION?

Soekarno said, "Give me 1000 oldmen, then I'll pull Semeru from its roots. Give me 10 youths then I'll shake the world." In his words, I realize that future of nation is determined by the role of youth. Then with my expertise and interest in landscape, I have big goals for my country's future. I plan to create and design a good living environment for humans, which remind them closer to nature then motivate them for protecting it for the next generations. This became a reason for me to seek much insights, both practically through work experience, and academically through education. It is the basis of why I continued my master's study in Australia. Since it had the best education in the world, I wish to evolve more expert in in my field and have better skills to socialize people the emergence of preserving the environment for a better life.

I pursue the Master of Landscape Architecture at the University of New South Wales as the first option. UNSW had the longest established and accredited program of Landscape Architecture in Australia. One of the advantages such as being qualified as a Registered Landscape Architect with the Australia Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA). It also offers some key features of subject areas both theoretically and practically, such as Landscape technology, urban ecology & landscape design, etc that will be useful for my future career as a Landscape Architect.

I also choose the University of Melbourne as the second option. It is because the courses learned in the university are thought comprehensively. Some courses such as Sustainable Urbanism, Bushfire Urban Planning, Advanced Planting Design, and Constructed Ecologies guide me to identify the character of my design and planning that observing environmental sustainability and user's behaviors of Indonesian people. It also would evolve my provision as a great leader who has a mission of developing positive impacts and changes in the landscape for my country's future.

Leave Soekarno out of the essay. You are making this response unnecessarily long with that quote and the misplaced reference to youth. This is a character limited response so get to the point. Avoid use of over- flowery and irrelevant language. Start immediately with your study goal statement instead. Avoid tired and redundant references to Australia being the best country for education. That is a suck-up line that reviewers never fall for.

For the first choice, You do not emphasize your reasons for becoming a member of ILA. What relevance does that have for your future professional goals? All I read was an outline of advantages through the syllabus but no applicable reasons for the choice.

The same concern exists for the second choice. While your reasons may be clear to you as the writers this does not translate into something that would carry a meaning to the reviewer. Spell it out. The statement is too vague for the reader.

Always answer with clear references to "Why" and " How". These are the missing links in your statement.
