Hi!
Firstly I would like to thank you for such an useful website. I used a lot of the information of your threads for writing my cover letters since 1 year. Now I decided to asked for your help, since this is an important opportunity to me and I would like to have a perfect cover letter. Sorry but I am not sure if this is a cover letter, since is longer than the classical cover letter you send in emails for introduce yourself.
The application is for different internship offered by an organization that promotes human rights research and advocacy in Burma. It is for 3 possition, two of them for preparing training materials (for the women program and the offsite program) and the last is for an internship in research and writing. In the application they ask:
Please summarize why you are an excellent fit for this internship, so I tried to explain why I am a suitable candidate.
Here it is what I wrote:
"First of all I would like to point out that at the beginning I was interested in the Internship for research, writing and organizing information (INT/RES). But while I checked the website I discovered the other internships regarding the training programs for women and the offline training (INT/TRAIN WOB) I am also excited and interested in those programs since I believe I can perform a good job preparing the training programs of the organization.
Since I started my university studies, I am been aware of the political and social situation in Burma. Unfortunately Burma is one of the more authoritarian states in the world, which a democratic deficit that lead into continuous human rights violations along the country. I would like to contribute with my work to the empowerment of the Burma's population; through the promotion and the advocacy of human rights in the region. Interning at XXXXXX would allow me to continue my commitment to the research and advocacy of human rights; and I feel confident that I could contribute substantively to the work of your office while strengthening the skills I will need in my career.
I am graduate in Law at the Universidad XXXXX in Madrid, Spain; and I am also have a Bachelor degree in Political Sciences and Public Administration at the same university. I recently finished my Master's degree in International Law and International Relations at the Instituto XXXXXX, in Madrid. This renowned institution has an international recognition for have one of the best programs of International Law in Spain and Latin America.
I also participated in the ERASMUS program, a student exchange program sponsored by the European Union; choosing the Bosphorus University in Istanbul as my destiny. I improved greatly my knowledge of international relations during that year, taking several courses about International Relations, development in contemporary democracies and human rights.
Last year I did an internship in a Lawfirm in Madrid, where I assisted the lawyers in their daily work. This experience helped me to familiarize myself with the work as a lawyer, as well as to commit myself to the legal defense of those who have fewer resources and are more vulnerable. This year I volunteered at UNICEF EspaĆa, the UNICEF National Committee in Spain. While volunteering I helped in the daily work of the organization, carrying out different task in the Department of Development Cooperation and Emergencies.
As I stated at the beginning I was firstly interested about the research and advocacy position; and I believe that my academic background in law and political science is perfect for that. I am used to do researches and writing papers and summaries about different topics. I think my writing skills allow me to summarize and writing articles, not only correctly but also enjoyable to read. I am also inform about the situation of human rights in Burma since I am used to read the reports of several organization such as Human Rights Watch, Amnesty or the reports of the High Commissioner for Human Rights of United Nations.
But I would like to suggest that you also consider me as a suitable candidate for both training programs, the offsite training programs or the Women of Burma Internship program. I am always been enthusiastic about teaching, especially in economy, history, democracy and human rights. During my years of study I prepared lessons for my friends in a different range of topics. I think I will perform a good job preparing the training materials and the lesson plans for the XXXXX's training programs.
I am a compelling candidate for those positions due to my personal strengths in analytical thinking, organization and problem solving, my good communication skills and a long-standing familiarity with the complex issue of human rights issues, research and advocacy. I have an excellent English proficiency, a good command of Italian and my mother tongue is Spanish.
As I stated at the beginning of the application, I am currently in Chiang Mai. Since long time ago I am planning to move to the southeast of Asia, to start my career in the promotion and advocacy of human rights and democracy in Burma. The internship at XXXXX would be an extraordinary opportunity for my career. ""
I am sorry if it is so long. I will apreciate your comments and your help. And I will be so thankful.
I hope to contribute in the future with this forum if my english skills allow me to do so.
Thanks for your help.
Have a nice day
