College presents opportunities to sharpen skills, establish bonds, participate in various activities and develop as an individual. As a student attending college, there are goals that I hope to achieve throughout my experience. One of my goals is to better prepare myself for my future by studying the trade skill that I will center my career around. Additionally, I want to have a well rounded education about the world in which I live in. It is also one of my goals to meet new people and establish mutually beneficial relationships that promote success. I believe that I can reach all of these objectives within my time as a student in college.
I see myself pursuing a career in a Finance-related field, particularly because the management and function of money is something which I thoroughly enjoy. Hence, it follows that in order to be successful in a career involved in Finance, I should have a much deeper understanding of what Finance entails. Attending college gives me the resources to study Finance in depth and continue to build my interest in it so that I can use what I have learned in my classes and apply it to my career. With the assistance of caring professors and supplementary course-materials I can improve in my studies much faster. In addition to studying, I also understand that in a functional society getting to know other people is essential to success. As a result, I understand how valuable a goal it is to make effort towards building connections with people of similar interests. Networking and meeting people in college can serve different purposes, for example I could seek others who I know have the right skills for a situation and offer them the opportunity. On the flipside, I also share the benefit of having many more opportunities opened up to me at the recommendations of the people I connect with. Furthermore, having bonds and sharing interests with people is great for a healthy life. There are many different ways to meet people in college including club activities, organizations, class projects, sports and even the general atmosphere of the university. Many of the students I've met are focused, diligent and ambitious individuals with their own set of skills that could prove to be very useful.
While most of my goals are centered towards preparing myself for my career, I also respect the purpose of a university in its function at improving society and promoting critical thinking. I believe that pursuing a well-rounded education rather than a single interest will result in a better informed and versatile person. I can focus attention on my finance-related courses as well, but I may also learn other interesting topics including law, philosophy, music and history. All three of my goals head towards one common objective, which is to use college to become a better person. By putting in effort and utilizing the programs provided, such as the Rising Starr Sophomore Program, I hope to achieve these goals.
