Every year, as spring draws near, my nose senses the aroma of the fresh flowers blooming and my body tingles with joy from the misty springtime breeze. It is that time of year to watch the fresh leaves hanging from the branches of trees, my beautiful flowers opening up and showcasing their petals, or the new blades of grass emerging from the ground. However last spring, both my mind and heart were bolted on one thing -university decisions. I remember every morning being spent dashing to the mailbox in the darkness, in hopes of receiving that letter to my dream university. Springtime would be the season of positivity, but finally when the letter came from my dream university, a frown emerged on my face. I set the letter on my table, held in my tears and looked out my window.
Springtime offers a myriad of opportunities for change and metamorphosis. While that day was very sad, from then on, I dreamt about something new-transferring to a university. I would be able to start anew and have another opportunity to gain admission to a university I am proud of. Although my days spent at the local community college have given me an effective springboard in my education, I want to experience life in a university and feel the student life there. My fascination with universities stem from its student alliances, research opportunities, and the chance to live in a dormitory. Living in a dormitory has so many advantages including making new long-lasting friendships with people of various geographical and intellectual backgrounds and being situated right on the campus so I can be able to access sources whenever I want to. Unfortunately, my community college does not provide me with this opportunity and as a Sociology major, I believe it is necessary work with a variety of different people because sociology requires different perspectives and fieldwork. I believe that the academic environment that campus life in a university is rich with opportunities for intellectual enrichment, social relationships and personal growth and is extremely conducive for my major. My dream still lives on of attending a good university and hopefully this spring will bring forth prosperity and happiness. The student life at a university is something I am persistent to be a part of and I cannot wait until that day finally comes.
