"a gateway to my future, new horizons" - The Ohio State University application essay

The instructions for the essay are the write, in less that 300 words, why I am interested in The Ohio State University. This is what I have wrote so far.

I am interested in The Ohio State University because I see it as a gateway to my future. The Ohio State University is known for high academic standards and the diversity of organizations within the university, which would broaden my horizons. I am interested in a school that will challenge me mentally, and I feel like The Ohio State University can do just that. Also, since the university is very highly ranked, that will give me the extra edge over other applicants when it comes to applying for a job in my future. I am not only interested in The Ohio State University for its education, though, I also feel like there is an enormous feeling of school spirit and pride running through the campus. Everywhere you go there are the scarlet and gray colors that are what The Ohio State University is made of.

What you have written so far is interesting...
but I think you need to gather some more info bout the university and try to link them with your more specific interest. A thorough emphasize on just one point is much better than rambling about general info that the univ might have already known of. Try to impress them on how much you know about them and how they really suit your interest or goal.

There are also a few instances where your sentences could be a bit iffy. Your essay should be more personal like your interests and how OSU is significant to your interests rather than just praising the school.
