From my school years I have been extremely passionate about an idea to make my adorable home town and my country more beautiful and comfortable for living. I wished more tourists could come to our native land to learn more about our rich history. Since then I set a goal to equip myself with the sufficient knowledge, education, and skills that would later on in my life allow me to improve the condition of the community around me. Through my personal experience I have realized that developing the economy of my country will make a solid contribution to my fellow countrymen's welfare. To acquire a good education in this area I had to move to the capital of our country far from my home town and family. As a result, for five years I have dedicated my whole attention to the subject studying national economy at Moscow State University of Management. It is one of the best universities in Russia that specializes in training economists. Due to the fact that the topic of management was not thoroughly covered in my curriculum, I faced some difficulties later on, when I took the responsibilities of a foreign economic activity manager. As I admire professionalism I desire to fill this gap in my education by studying management in detail.
Upon graduating from the university I was offered a job of my dream in Preston Vet, LLC. The company is an exclusive distributor of veterinary medicaments and feeds for agriculture industry around the world. My main duties include managing the orders, tracking the deliveries of goods to Russia from abroad and managing their further distribution to CIS countries and regions. So, my background demonstrates my high involvement with the international activities. During the course of my work I was honored to be acknowledged by the higher-level management as an individual with an extremely high potential. I proved my ability to set goals and achieve them, to organize and motivate people in order to conquer a common goal. Moreover, I showed my analytical abilities, logical thinking and quantitative proficiency. Therefore, in a long-term I strive to acquire necessary core knowledge in order to take over higher-level management positions in the company. While contemplating about this opportunity, I questioned myself, what will enable me to become a successful leader. Even at the time when I started my work I acted more relying on my knowledge of economics and intuition. As I always strive for perfection in everything I do, I need a strong theoretical basis in management. Sometimes I virtually feel lack of it when making some decisions. That is why I want to enrich my education with sufficient knowledge of management in the United Kingdom (Scotland) which is famous for its strong theoretical and practical traditions in this area.
During my first years at university I did not pay as much attention to Advanced Mathematics Science, being particularly interested in humanitarian subjects such as Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, History of Economics and Regional Economics. I succeeded in studying them and was highly estimated by our teachers. Then I could not completely comprehend what role numbers and math play in economics. My internship at KMPG, a wide-known multinational company that specializes in audit and consulting, as an auditor opened my eyes and completely changed my point of view. It gave me a solid background in quantitative aspects of economics.
The aspects of the course of Management at St. Andrews University that attract me most of all at the moment are Business Marketing, Strategic Management in the Information Age and International Business. These subjects are strongly correlated with what I am dealing now at work. I will be more effective in distributing the products to the partners abroad if I comprehend the underlining theory of processes in Business marketing and International Business. Besides, most managers in Russia up until this day are utilizing obsolete business planning strategies which were appropriate fifteen or twenty years ago. They do not understand that the methods of planning should undergo renovation along with the changing environment. Therefore, I will trigger the modernization of any business I will be involved with using my knowledge of Strategic Management in the Information Age. Besides, by studying Management I will find a lot of answers for inevitable questions I have not faced yet such as efficient Managing Human Resources, Human Resource Development and Risk Management.
I am convinced that should I be given the opportunity to study Management at St. Andrews University that attracts some of the best students, I will be able to contribute significantly to the academic environment, learn from other highly talented peers and leading experts in this field. And I will apply my knowledge of both economic and managerial disciplines to the important cause once my education is over.
Important to note, that during my studies I had a possibility to express myself through my extracurricular activities. I have attended the Economics Discussion Club during all of my university years. In this club, we discussed various problems in our current economy. Our final project was the most memorable and challenging. I was fortunate to be one of publicly elected team leaders. We had to make a presentation on the improvement of our economy for twenty years. We spent many days researching this issue and eventually I was surprised to learn that my team turned out to be the best one. This gave me self-confidence that still guides me in the life.
As to my free time, I am an active person. I like organizing evening-parties, cooking. Especially I like to combine products in an unusual way. The results of my experiments frequently have success among my friends. Also I adore doing sports, especially in the open air, such as tennis, horse riding, mountain skiing. Previously I had been a professional dancer for ten years. The numerous competitions in which I took part taught me to keep a desire for learning, growing, winning and not being afraid of difficulties. I am very much interested in psychology for it facilitates the understanding of people surrounding me; it is very helpful in life as well as in business.
