Here is my response (please critique!):
As I was scrolling through the 2011 best colleges rankings this fall, one school in particular stuck out-Boston University. Although I had no previous knowledge of BU, something in that moment was intriguing and inspired me to look in depth into the school. As one of the nation's leading research universities, located in a large metropolitan city, with majors that interest me and an outstanding student life, Boston University offers everything I want in a college. From international programs to diverse clubs and courses, it won't take long to find my niche at this prestigious university. After studying the website for months on end, BU never ceases to amaze me.
Honestly, if you can write about how you read a professor's book who attends BU or something that really interested you, like a specific class, in which you just felt you had to attend "said" class and hear the professor lecture or just be in the class, then that would be a 100x stronger for the "what steps you have taken to learn more about us"
I can imagine that it is hard to fully convey what you want in such a limited space. But honestly, I think your essay barely answers the question. The third and fourth sentences list generic descriptors that could illustrate almost any school, and don't relate to the question.
After mentioning that you studied the website, you should describe specific programs or majors that you are interested in. Remember, you want to write a unique essay that no other student could have written.
I think you lack specifics. Your reasons are essentially generic and general and they can be applied to other Boston schools such as Northeastern. Don't be afraid to step out of the boundaries of the question either.
Your response is vague. It doesn't even seem like you researched the university, it clear that you b.s.ed it because this can apply to basically any other university. Try and find a specific detail about the University that stands out to you.
