Please compose a one or two page essay about yourself that tells us how you will help the University to carry out its mission:

To promote learning in the Jesuit Catholic tradition so that students acquire the knowledge, skills, values and sensitivities they need to succeed as persons, professionals and architects of a more humane and just world.

I am not a god loving or god fearing being, but nor am I a disbelieving person of supreme existence, nevertheless I am religious; religious in my own beliefs of morality, justice, equality, and transcendence. Whereas some pupils volunteer or participate in extracurricular activities solely for the purpose of enhancing their student profile, I believe in doing good deeds for self-fulfillment and enrichment in contribution to a more honest and honorable community. In the past, I have volunteered for my local hospital and there I have shared and created many memories with the patients there. Awkward encounters at first, but I soon had the pleasure of meeting an interesting and diverse group of people; mostly elderly folk dressed in hospital gowns, but each individual had their own unique and unforgettable story to tell. Hearing about their life, their adventures, triumphs, and difficulties, the black and white text I learned in school became real living accounts; the holocaust, slavery, discrimination, racism, all became real life tribulations. After reflecting upon their stories, I have developed a greater sensitivity towards the people around me; no longer can I simply go on with my A to B destinations without wondering where everyone else is heading and for what purpose, and no longer can I sit at a park and simply enjoy the sun without wondering what the children will grow up to be like. In that small interim at the hospital, I have grown in many ways; I am less ignorant to reality, more aware of the world around me, and my curiosity now knows no boundaries. The hospital has provided me a small glimpse of the many different people associated in our web of existence, and has made me realize what a diminutive being I am in this large technological and advancing society. Although small, it does not take a large number of people to make little, positive contributions to our community and people. It only takes one person willing to take the first modest step to initiate a journey for a greater cause; a cause to create a warmer and more accepting humanity. I am one of the many leaders in this generation willing to step forth out of their comfort zones to fight against the corruption and injustices in our society and advocate for equality and compassion. Whether I am donating pints of whole blood at my local blood bank, joining a park cleanup in the neighboring city, or rallying for gay rights in front of city hall, I believe that every little action accounts for a positive input into our community. I hope to transcend the standards of American living today, and create a more meaningful life for younger generations by becoming an exemplary leader who proudly displays the rewards and benefits of continuous hard work and community service in their actions and choices. It is not a question of whether how I will constitute to a more humane and just world, for the university's mission is already similar to my own philosophy and personal goals, but where I can receive a solid foundation, education, and support for my needs, interests, and beliefs. I trust that the University of San Francisco would act as a second home to me, providing me with the support, diversity, and education I need in life to become a confident and successful leader.

Feedback, corrections, edits, etc. very much needed and welcomed! Thanks
