Prompt- With advent in technology and modernisation our lifestyle has routed towards the luxurious road. We are now harnessing our environment like anything to need our ever growing greed.
Assignment - DAMAGE TO THE ENVIRONMENT IS AN INEVITABLE CONSEQUENCE OF WORLDWIDE IMPROVEMENTS IN THE STANDARD OF LIVING. DISCUSS
Everything around us which we feel, hear and see is Environment. We don't care a lot about the well-being of environment in which we live, in case if we do, we are only concerned with the niche locality were we reside. We generally miss the whole picture; environment is ours and we have to take care of it anywhere either locally or globally and at any time.
The rise in standard of living has in many ways made us negligent/careless about environment. We do take care of minute environmental issues here and there. But do we really care about environment; bit of introspection needs to be done. With day by day increase in the standard of living, lifestyle has become complex and totally dependent on technology or rather on convenient. Things that could have been done earlier without use of technology or modernity are seldom now done so. For example with the rise in income level people now prefer to travel in private vehicles instead of in public transport system.
Natural resources are exploited in abundance to meet the increasing requirement of energy. The location from where the resources is extracted its environment is totally disturbed and the whole ecology of that place is disturbed, e.g. in Coal and mineral mining and oil wells. When these resources are burnt for specific purposes they create a huge amount of global warming gases. This affects the whole world's ecological and environmental balance.
The industrial revolution is still continuing to prosper at a rapid pace. People require certain specific finished products to make their life convenient. A lot of resources and minerals, etc.. are required to make that product. In the process a lot of waste is generated which hampers the aerial and aqua environment. Sometimes harmful wastes generated by these industries get into our food chain and cause havoc (illness/epidemic/endemic) in the long/short run.
It seems rise in standard of living is a curse for environment. Certain strict rules and regulations need to be made to check the exploitation of environment. To contain the effect of waste and industrial by products certain checks is required both from government side and from public side. If people become concern about the environment then individual efforts like constraining us to what we exactly need in terms of services and products or goods. The quantity/demand of such things will decrease and eventually will reduce the impact of standard of living on the environmental.
