Scholarship / CURRENT AND EMERGING ISSUES FACING NIGERIA - RELATION TO THE STUDY CHOICE [2]

Please, I need help with checking to see if I have answered the Essay correctly, Grammatical or Typographical errors, where I can improve and if there is any paragraph that doesn't tally with what has been asked. Its 250 words for each essay. Thank you

E-commerce Startups IN NIGERIA

Q.We want to ensure that your studies at the University of Edinburgh benefit you and your community in the future. Tell us how your choice of degree will empower you to pursue a career that addresses any issues in your country.

Nigeria has a huge concentration of technology and E-commerce Startups. A lot of them struggle with getting their products and technology accepted by the general public, causing a lot of them to close down, or merge with other companies. This creates a lot of uncertainty about the local tech ecosystem which is quite disappointing to investors. I would like to help change this trend. I plan to use my knowledge in Product design to help teach Startups about things they need to do to improve product acceptance.

After the course, I plan to join a local innovation hub like CCHUB to mentor young startup companies and help them build new products/services using a strict user-centered design approach to serve the market providing user research data which influences core product decision. I also plan to create forums, Seminars and events for existing founders on how they can optimize the performance of their products.

Also, I plan to look at how we can guarantee quality on locally produced retail and electronics items which is seen locally as "sub-standard" and in the future, see how we can boost the exportation of locally made products to make the international community appreciate the local talent.

Lastly, I would like to work with global organizations to develop strategies on how to optimize and improve their products to increase local usage which is usually a problem in Emerging markets.

Wanted to add that in the future I plan to become a Google Developer Experts in Product design to help evangelize good practices for Companies within the Technology Ecosystem in Nigeria

Scholarship / How would this learning experience be transformative for you- Mastercard [3]

Please, I need help with checking to see if I have answered the Essay correctly, Grammatical or Typographical errors, where I can improve and if there is any paragraph that doesn't tally with what has been asked. Its 250 words for each essay. Thank you

Q: We want Mastercard scholars to continue to learn and develop as individuals at the University of Edinburgh. How would this learning experience be transformative for you?

applying knowledge to the real world

The MA program is guided by a questioning stance, creating visions and challenging the way we live. The learning experience on the program promises to change my perception about design from an "Aesthetics only" perspective to a more functional and User-Centered Perspective. Taking us through the theory of how people and objects interact, to Design better products to improve the everyday lives of people making us problem-solvers.

The program focusses a lot on observation; watching people, talking to people, participating with people, and making objects that are intermediate in the design process - prototypes and models. The Department also owns a perfect workshop attached to the studio which has equipment like 3D printers, laser cutters, laser scanners e.t.c. allowing us to creatively experiment with materials and processes to help bring our ideas to life which plays a significant role in learning.

The program also provides an opportunity to work in teams, using our initiative to generate useful, innovative, sustainable, thought-provoking and commercially-viable design solutions. I have always enjoyed working in teams.

While studying at the University I plan to also look into other opportunities to apply what is being learnt to the real world through volunteer work or internships. I have always been Big on lifelong learning, I believe that the day you stop developing yourself, you stop growing. I plan to also take online courses to learn about the business side of product design; Marketing, Business Development and Technology.

Writing Feedback / IELTES Task 2: Online shopping is replacing shopping in stores. [6]

@summerlin
Hi just to add
E-commerce actually doesn't completely replace in-store purchases. it's more of about your niche (since you are going to be generalizing the focus as Mary suggested). for example, you can't buy a house online or a car e.t.c but the online experience would help you make your decision faster and more effectively because of reviews from other customers. This is called Moment of truth in Marketing. you might want to read on this, might help you get more content for your essay.

Cheers

Graduate / I'm applying to top computer science MS programs hoping to study (and research) machine learning [4]

@isrxz
Hi, you can also add group projects in machine learning that you have worked on outside of school (maybe for startups or for a good cause like health),

if you are not held by an NDA probably add some of the mind-blowing projects you worked on during your internship with "the big 4 tech company ". should help strengthen your application.

cheers

Scholarship / Learning new things has always been a great motivator for me. Essay for MasterCard [4]

Please, I need help with checking to see if I have answered the Essay correctly, Grammatical or Typographical errors, where I can improve and if there is any paragraph that doesn't tally with what has been asked. Its 250 words for each essay. Thank you

Q: We want to hear what motivates you and what you are passionate about. Please write about a topic that is important to you, and reflects who you are/your values.

I am a natural team player

Learning new things has always been a great motivator for me. In everything I do, I believe I've always been able to learn something new, or a new way to look at a problem and solve it.

I am a natural team player, I would always cherish being in a room with a bunch of smart people pushing for the same cause. And when it's all done, I love preparing and giving presentations. Being in front of an audience, and seeing them respond to our ideas is a real thrill, and making that connection is inspiring and exciting. I am going to be talking about teamwork

What is teamwork? There are several ways to define teamwork, but for some color, let's think of it as the French do. The French language has an excellent expression to describe it: "Esprit de corps". This means a sense of unity, of enthusiasm for common interests and responsibilities, as developed among a group of persons closely associated with a task, cause, enterprise, etc. It is the process of working collaboratively with a group of people in order to achieve a goal.

Teamwork is a crucial part of our everyday lives, as it is often necessary for people to work well together, trying their best in any circumstance. Teamwork means that people will try to cooperate, using their individual skills and providing constructive feedback, despite any personal conflict between individuals.

The second idea I had for a topic was True Greatness/ success. Talking about how true greatness/ success in life is achieved by helping others. do you think this would have made a better topic?

Scholarship / Living the outstanding dream [3]

@Mohamed012375
Hi Mohammed, this is a great draft,
what were you asked to write about in this essay? I'm guessing this is supposed to be a motivation essay or personal statement

Firstly I think your P2 make a stronger introduction than your P1. I think you should merge P1 with P3

You want to start off with something emotional that sends a bang, then walk your way to how you became passionate about the field in question. Next, you want to talk about some of your goals or some problems you hope to solve and then how the programme would help you achieve this.

So in summary
P1- Emotional Introduction
P2- How you became passionate about the field in question( The niche the scholarship falls in)
P3- some of your goals or some problems you hope to solve
P4- then how the programme would help you achieve this

cheers

Writing Feedback / Companies should actively recruit younger employees who have greater potential to learn [4]

@kuan446697
Hi, This is a really interesting topic. I'm guessing this is for IELTS
I have to agree with @chinkybehl22

Don't be confused

"To what extent do you agree or disagree" is no different from the regular "do you agree or disagree". You will be writing an argument essay. If writing your IELTS, you should choose either to agree or disagree (not both)

This is some stuff I saw online ..I think you should stick to one side 100% to get more marks. state which side you're on in P1 and then from P2 to P3 talk about why you align with this side. P4 has to be a strong closing summarizing all your points

Hope this helps

Scholarship / Positions of leadership you have undertaken and what you did individually to make a change- MCF [3]

Please, I need help with checking to see if I have answered the Essay correctly, Grammatical or Typographical errors, where I can improve and if there is any paragraph that doesn't tally with what has been asked. Its 250 words for each essay. Thank you

my leadership potential and abilities

Q: We want to know how you demonstrate your potential for leadership and your ability to give back to your community. Tell us about any positions of leadership or responsibility you have undertaken in the last five years. Please include details of the position you held and what you did individually to make a change.

Back in undergrad school, I was elected as the Public relations officer of my faculty's student association and I was tasked to relay information from the association to the students. But at the time we had a very low student participation rate, I took it upon myself to change this. This was a really difficult task to pull off as all the different departments had their various departmental associations fully running and were hardly interested in the faculty events/ association. I started by creating an inventory of all the students in the faculty. Then we got the student engaged online, we created online communities to make them engage with each other. This allowed the students build relationships and then our programs came in to make these relationships real. This improved the participation rate by 40% which saw us having the first faculty dinner in 10 years.

I belong to a group called the Human Race foundation which I joined on campus while in Undergraduate school. Being a part of this, I had the opportunity to engage in many philanthropic activities such as visiting old people's homes, orphanages and also donating to the campus from the little we had as undergraduates, this helped us build that culture of giving back at an early stage in life.I became part of the leadership in my 2nd year. My team was able to organize a big Career Seminar Event where we brought back alumni's in different fields to talk to undergraduates about their different fields and Student got to air their concerns about the industry and their challenges with school work. This gave rise to a lot of networking which brought about internship opportunities for the students. We were also able to give out 3 scholarships to students that were going through hard times from the little we had contributed with support from our graduate arm and alumni's . 2 of the recipients were orphans who had lost both parents. ( for this I was in charge of finance at some point (3rd year to be precise) and I helped with following up on invited guest for the career seminar and I helped push for support from the graduate arm and other alumni for some of our projects. )

Also, shortly after graduation, I took part in the Reckitt Benckiser Case challenge with some of my peers, who selected me as the group leader. We were asked to come up with a product idea that solves a social issue in our local community. I was able to delegate tasks and motivate group members and optimize collaboration and meetings using Google Docs and Hangouts. We came in Second at the National Round out of 160 Applications.

These are my best scenarios. I would like to pick two to summarize for this essay and word down to 250 words. I am currently considering the last two. please share your thoughts,

Thanks

Scholarship / What motivates you and what you are passionate about. MCF [4]

@Eddie2018
Hi Eddie, This a great first draft
I am not sure you answered this Essay well. The essay says, write about a topic that is important to you, and reflects who you are/your values.

you can write about the environment (which you are clearly passionate about) ....but, it appears this passion is not a big motivator for you, but something else. maybe something along the line of filling a gap, or being the change, or some very sad incident, an issue in your community et.c something along this line would be your Motivator.

talking about your job in the last paragraph is out of context. I believe there is another MCF essay that this information would come in handy for.

In summary, you have to be strategic about the topic you choose. the topic needs to
1) Reflects who you are/your values.
2) Be a subject that motivates you
3) Be a subject you are passionate about
