Undergraduate / Welcome to My world.. [4]

this essay about myself....I'd like you to grade it for me( a. b . c) by tha way I'm an esl student.

On December22 1989, in the middle of the night almost every

body was sleeping. My family was in the hospital waiting for me

to come to this life. At that time, they did not know my name yet,

but they just knew that I was a baby boy. As my father said" the

room was crowded. Every one came to see you. At dawn almost all

of them fell in sleep except me, I stayed beside your mother..."

One year later my father decided to go to America because he

felt he would have a better chance than in Jordan .At that time we

faced a lot of problems. I believe that it is very difficult to be a

single mother with four children, but fortunately my mother was

smart enough to cope with the life demands.

At the age of 4, I started to go to school. It was a lot of fun. I

liked it. I was in private school. Then, after ninth grade, I switched

to a public school. Generally, my grade point average was good.

I am the youngest in my family, therefore, I don’t have a lot of

things to be responsible for. After high school I was confused

about what I should do, stay in Jordan or go to America. I decided,

like my father had done before, and I said, may be I would have a

better chance in America.

THIS is my story, which I have not shared with anyone except

you. Finally, I have found someone beside my family that I shared

my happy moments, my sad ones and the obstacles that faced me

during my life. Once again welcome to my world.

Student Talk / How to improve English writing? Learning through reading. [130]

we should use English-English dictionary, and not try to translate any thing from our native language, because sometimes it sounds funny and makes no sense.

one time i translated a report from from my native language to English using GOOGLE translator
IT sounds really funny. and some sentence makes no sense.

Poetry / The United Nations... They go there whenever they want to go... [9]

If you tell me your opinion about it thats would be great.

The United Nations ....
They go there whenever they want to go...
They go there if they get a call...
They go there if they fight or if they want a right...
They go there by plane, car, or train...
Anyway, the meeting will start soon...
Everybody prepares...
The Secret service is everywhere...
Whatever the result, it is not fair...
The meeting is starting...
Some of them are listening....
One is looking for his glasses under the chair...
One is picking his nose without care...
One is sleeping on the chair....
And
One is calling a white girl to hang out with her...
And the others are blaming each other
This is your fault, I am right, and this is all about, nothing new...
The meeting is done...
Every one wants to have fun...
Later at night one of them hang out with her
By mistake he leaves his underwear with her...
Next day, you will see her on the air on CNN or BBC
Asking for money for his underwear, but you know
Who cares?!!!

Writing Feedback / Win is always your if you do fight from your deep heart. A success does not depend from luck. [8]

the most important thing for nonnative speakers is that not to translate any thing from their native language because it sometimes sounds fanny and make no sense.

first essay i wrote, my teacher was not able to understand the main Idea. because i wrote in my native language then i translated to English.

a richest person in world you can say { one of the richest people in the world}

In childhood, everyone heard the story of King Midas i never heard about it.

if you have a luck and you don't use it with intelligence you couldn't be a succeed in life. how can we use the luck??

I believe that if hard work is not enough luck is not important
do not transect any thing from your native language

Hard work is necessary to achive a goal or target
goal=target same meaning. Hard work is necessary to achive your goal.

Undergraduate / ESL teacher, Paul Thomas was the funniest person I ever knew ; My best teacher [17]

small part....I'm looking for mistake please help find some.

My best teacher I have ever had was my ESL teacher, Paul Thomas, he was the funniest person I had known in my life. his class was fun and interesting. he was helpful, knowledgeable, and funny at the same time.

Paul helped me in many situations, I still remembered, when he came with me to the court room to help me to understand what the judge was saying. Also when I came here I started looking for job; wherever I went, they asked me for a resume, in that time, I didn't even know what does resume mean. I told him about that, he said"I'D be happy to help you.

watch the tenses that you are using .

Someone knocks the door
I am studying
My mom stands right front of the door
I close the door and heard

I think you should use present continuous tense(ing).because you wrote in the first sentence
Sitting on the desk, I am studying .

It's just too hard for me. I really want to go back home, although it's impossible, and it's far away from here . At the moment, my mind flashes back to the third grade.

although it's impossible, and it's far away from here
if you put this in your paragraph, I think you should explain . why it is impossible??
so may just take it out.

It's just too hard for me
it's confusing. what is the hard for you?
studying for the tests or being far away from your back home

Undergraduate / "What should I do to be a happy employee?" [4]

please may check my essay, any criticize would be welcome

what should you do to be a happy employee?
write an essay about

"What should I do to be a happy employee?" Many students before they graduate from college, start asking their self this question. In my opinion this is too late, because they should ask themselves this question before they even start in their college. They should study the major, that they like and feel comfortable with and not to study what their parents want them to do. Studying what you like is the most important factor in making you a happy employee.

You should study what you feel comfortable with and what you like, not what your parents like. Look what happened with my cousin, who graduated last year, his career is computer engineering. Each time I meet him; he starts telling me about his job and says ,"I wish I studied media". I can tell that he is not happy at all not because of the salary, but because he did not want to study this major from the beginning, but the thing is his parents kept telling him that," you will make a lot money and the computer market is very good these days".

The money is very important too, when you choose your major, you should know how much money you will make. Let's say that you choose to be a teacher for an elementary school, so do not expect that you will make a hundred thousand a year, but if you choose computer engineering you will make it. Sometimes it depends on your responsibility, like me, I have two family one here and the other is back home. Therefore, I should study something that I will earn a lot of money to cover my expenses.

You must know the location; you will work in, in the future. Some people do not like any thing that has something to do with crowd or traffic, so those people will be unhappy and frustrated, if they work downtown. Also you have to make sure that your health will not be affected from the location that you work in. Like if you have a breath problem, you should not work in body shop.

So you have to be careful when you choose your major, because it will determine your future career and if you'll be happy in you job or not. Take your time thinking about your future and your job; you may ask for some advices form your parents and your advisor, but in the end it is your future not theirs.

Undergraduate / The locket. Last words my sister said to me at the airport [4]

The Locket...

"Take it Bilal. It's yours". Those were the last words my sister said to me at the airport. It was a small bag; I didn't know what was inside it. She just told me to open it in "Amreka". When I was in the airplane, I was curious what was inside the small bag, Then I said, "I'll wait till I reach America".

After the airplane landed, I decided to open the little bag , When I opened it, I saw a letter and a little gold thing. First, I read the letter. It said, "This may help you to get the directions if you get lost", then I picked up the little gold thing. It was a locket, when I opened it, I saw a compass on one side and a picture of my mother on the other side. I held it to my chest and cried for a moment. On that day when I went to sleep, I put it under my pillow, and since that day I couldn't sleep without the locket. This locket means a lot to me. It's a gift from my sister. Furthermore, it contains my mother's picture; when I face any obstacle, I look at my mother's picture and imagine her in this situation, what she would do and I do the same. This locket is always in my pocket, also it has its place in my heart.

thank you guys....

could this one be my conclusion?

He is such a good person; I say it without any doubt. He always smiling and looks happy, you can tell that from his face. Even out side of the school, he volunteers in a lot of community activities like, help the elderly people and cleaning the parks. I hope one day to be like him, and I wish that all of instructors would be like him.

Poetry / where is the..? [7]

Where is?

Where is the justice?

Where is the peace?

Where is the freedom?

I went everywhere and looked for those
It took me years and years,
I found nothing.
I have no idea where those have gone….
Why do they want to keep them away from my people?
I do not know!
Who knows?!!
I went back to my country with two black bags full of money!!!!

Everybody was waiting for me,
They wanted me to say something,
I could not!!!!
I raised the two black bags
In that moment, every one knew what happened...
While all of them were shouting at me.
A little child stood and held up a stone in his hand and shouted
This is the justice
This is the peace
This is the way to the happiness.... BILAL
