Undergraduate / Carleton short answers - literature teacher, biology, books. [5]

You're answers are definitely on the right track.

The one about a favorite teacher you list a lot of things she does but you don't really mention how she does them. This makes it sort of unclear to me at least. I know it has a very tight character limit, but I would definitely rework this answer.

Also, I have gotten comments on my own post about contractions being inappropriate for formal writing. So, if it doesn't push you over the character limit, make "couldn't" in your second answer: could not. A little fix :)

Best of luck!

Undergraduate / "E pluribus unum"; TUFTS - Let your life speak [4]

Just a few thoughts :)

I like your answer, interesting beginning drew me in. I would say it makes you seem intelligent and open to diversity.

The answer you give doesn't talk much about your family, home, neighbor, or community. Though, I suppose your school is your community in a way. Make sure you feel content that you've answered the question.

You're last sentence is seems sort of like a run on, but it looks easy to split up. Maybe:
The "out of many one" philosophy of my high school has inspired me to be the accepting person I am today. As I near...

Also, how long is the limit for the question?

Undergraduate / Life, significant experience, achivement, risk u have taken and its impact [3]

Hello :)

Just a few thoughts:

Is this the question for the Common Application? If so, essays are typically 500-1000 words, so it looks as though yours is a bit short. The experience you are writing about seems like a perfect one to write about though! Try to elaborate more by adding more detail and being more specific. Great work so far!

Undergraduate / What appeals you to Emory University, aside from the obvious. Emory Supplement [5]

Hello :) Just a few thoughts...
I like your answer, but also understand why you may feel it's a tad generic. I don't know the character limit, but if you can, I would add more.

I took a look at Emory's website. Did you see the "Life At Emory" Page? If not, here it is: emory.edu/home/life/index.html

It has some good info on things that are quirky and personal about the school.
For example, I found this: emory.edu/home/about/history/dooley.html
Strange, but kind of cool :)

Though I am not applying to Emory, I have applied to a couple schools with somewhat similar goofy traditions. When talking to people in Admissions, I always got the sense that yes, they were proud of school's academic reputation but that they were also extremely fond of all the little quirky things about the school. I think adding that you were intrigued by some little, extremely unique detail about the school will show that you have really dug beneath the surface of Emory. It will make your essay seem much more personalized too. Talk about how its quirks set it apart, etc. You could always follow up saying you realized along with everything else Emory offers you, you know it would be a place where you could fit in, feel comfortable, and have fun.

Yikes, I've been rambling...hope this helps :)

Essays / Psychology essay- Discuss The Development of Memory in Infancy and Childhood [3]

You don't necessarily need to find clashing theories, especially if you have already heavily searched for them(unless that is the specific assignment). I think that "discuss" is a synonym to "talk about" so if you had to: Talk About the Development of Memory... what would you say? Put it on paper - there's your essay. Use the information you already have and describe what you found in your own words. Also, if you're unsure about what the topic of the essay means, don't be afraid to ask your teacher/professor.

Good Luck!
