Undergraduate / "career in economics" - supplement, why Chicago? [6]

Hello, it's my answer below in return to the question: why Chicago university?
This is not the final essay, I have written it but I am not able to proceed than this. Please help me in continuing it. Also suggest me on the part that I've already written

Learning more about William Rainey Harper, when he along with his colleagues pulled a feverish all-nighter beforehand, unpacking and arranging desks and chairs for university's first class in the newly constructed Cobb Hall. That very sense of devotion befell in my mind, pushing me to explore more about the institution which is blessed with such dedicated people.

Looking forward toward a particular learning, economics has engaged me into itself since 9th grade and no way might I not choose to pursue a career in economics. Learning more about economics and its influence on the world, I first came aware of the impact university has had on the landscape of world economics when I picked up the book 'Capitalism and Freedom' by Milton Friedman. It was my first attempt into the literature of economics beyond my course book. The desire to study at University of Chicago originated from the desire to become a part of a community which could act as the best possible platform for success, above all, when great professors including Milton Friedman are a part of it. Not only will I be able to pursue my passion in the field of economics with world class proven professors but I will also be able to gain ground in all aspects of learning.

Parallel to my wishes, I have always been interested in learning from lives of great men and their influence on the world, my intense energy to grasp their lessons of lives has always encouraged me to study at an institution from where they have studied or where they have taught. Great men including William Rainey Harper, Milton Friedman and John Hope Franklin who have been a part of University of Chicago and have made notable changes in the community, drives me also to pursue my career at such an institution where I'd not only be able to contribute but also be able to satisfy my desire to becoming a part of the institution which is led by successful people so that I can follow their path. From watching the Milton Friedman television series "Free to choose" I have seen that the school has also fostered those who are willing to act upon the conviction of their opinions based upon their own research and not be afraid to face criticism and it is this long line of proud past and present and alumni that I would feel honored to be allowed to join such a dedicated community.

Other than my wishes, I personally desire to study at a place that is free from racism, sexism, and ageism; it's commitment towards ethics, excellence, personal and academic integrity and acting as responsible community makes it a perfect place for my present and my future. The type of community that is present at the university is the best of both worlds, not only is there the large campus whereby there is a sense of being in a calm and collected place of learning but there is also the significant added of advantage of being within an easy commute of the international financial power house that is the City of Chicago. It is this type of educational environment, a combination of both campus and city. Once a phrase by UPenn alumni when I asked him 'How good is university of Chicago' and he enthusiastically replied, 'University of Chicago is doing phenomenally great'.

Undergraduate / "how an insect leads its way to find food" (A situation where you left your comfort ) [3]

Question is: Tell us about an experience in which you left your comfort zone. How did this experience change you? Please people comment and critique.

Student council at school played a significant role in shaping my life. I was part of it since I joined my high school. It was the time when I was quite naďve, shy and unwilling to participate in different activities. My first responsibility came in a form of a class prefect. My duty was to lead the class during teacher's absence, marking attendances and make sure every student maintains a code of conduct. Novice me, use to get nervous at times, afraid to meet new people and afraid to apply myself. Half way through my first year in student council, head of the council came up to me and asked the reason of my reticence. I had no answer. This was a moment of a new beginning. I became angry and decided to change. I started to participate in activities, assisted my seniors in getting things done, lead my class students confidently and this time there was no distress. I realized I loved this and wanted to pursue these activities more actively. [...]

Hello, Nausica. Thanks alot for your opinions and corrections. It really helped me alot. Yes, you're right, rather than explaining leadership I should talk about what I learned. Yes, I kinda lack in english vocabulary. It is not my first language, here the problem lies.

Please also comment on my U chicago supplement essay also.
Thanks :)

Undergraduate / "to discover the personality of a college" - Vassar Supplement [5]

Hi, Nausica again!
Umm, you wrote that you discovered about vassar from a booklet, this sounds like a little insignificant factor in college choice. Plus, other than give a little glimpse of your wishes and how they relate to Vassar. I think it'd make it perfect then. Any one can praise the college in the given space and mostly applicants will do. Be a little distinctive.

Good Luck :)

Undergraduate / What is this world and what it really taught me? - Chicago extended essay [3]

Please do comment on the comment. Deadline is too near and I need feedback please!
Thanks

What is this world and what it really taught me?
Every morning looking into the mirror I try to figure out where I fit in but I always draw a big blank. Every day I put a same question in front of me. What I am? Am I extraordinary? Why people call me normal? Or, this is the way I am. And I sleep with no answers every night, hoping to discover them in the following morning. There are aspects in my life, which makes me think I am extra ordinary normal and some makes me think that I am nobody. Then a time came when I never bothered to answer these questions. I assumed that some people are born with it.

I can proudly say I moved on. Oblivious was my mind when another set of questions was waiting for me when I entered the social whirlpool. Every day thoughts surrounded me, with a new question in my mind and I found this world very abashing where people only talked about high standards. Every one looking at the zenith; only few people talked about creativity, new ideas, and solutions while rest of the people just followed what they were taught. Those who are creative were not ready to bring a change in the society. This made me understand that two types of the people are in the world, the ones who are normal and the ones who are extra ordinary but I remained confused about what I am: normal or extra ordinary.

I figured out world can be as precise as one wants and can be as complicated as one want it to be. There are times in peoples' lives when they are tired being discovering the enigmas of the world. The more they try to comprehend the world the more it seems pointless to them. It once happened with me when I was growing, as a teenager when society around me first appeared thought provoking but it then stimulatingly looked uninteresting. A fact that 'excess of everything is bad' can be very useful in eliminating many problems. It is a key element to a successful life and a balanced life is a beautiful life where nothing is in extra.

Finding about our own selves is part of one nourishing cycle of our mind. What I have learned from this nourishing cycle is that life can be pretty simple and beautiful but what takes too long for people to eliminate their problems is that they do not understand their purpose of lives. Nothing is perfect, a man has some flaws and some abilities and this fusion makes a human life interesting and balanced

What I learned to do many years ago was to forgive myself. It is very important for every human being to forgive himself or herself. If we all hold on to the mistake, we can't see our own glory in the mirror because we have the mistake between our faces and the mirror; we can't see what we are capable of being. You can ask forgiveness of others, but in the end the real forgiveness is in one's own self. When a larger society sees a person as unattractive, as threats, as too black or too white or too poor or too fat or too thin or too sexual or too asexual, that's rough. But you can overcome that. The real difficulty is to overcome how you think about yourself. If we don't have that we never grow, we never learn, and sure as hell we should never teach.

Undergraduate / "career in economics" - supplement, why Chicago? [6]

Hey, Kevin thanks for commenting. Actually, Capitalism and Freedom is the book written about monetary policies in countries and it is truly related with economics which is, in fact my favorite subject. So when I discovered about University's alumni, I discovered about Milton Friedman and his work and he has made notable changes in Economics. So this is what drives me to apply to Chicago.

And please comment on the rest of the paragraphs, thanks :)
