Networking is the most important aspect in professionalism, without networking the world wouldn't be here where knowledge has been shared and spread. I personally admire the diversity and networking because it helped to shape my career and execute work duties every day.

In 2015 when I started practicing engineering I joined with Engineers Board (ERB), this Board is responsible to register engineers and prepare Continuous Professional Development Programs (CPD) for engineers in Tanzania. In CPDs engineers get chance to share their knowledges and meet various stakeholders from diverse engineering disciplines. My participation in CPDs really changed my life career wise because I was able to build a very strong network and learnt new engineering ideas.

I am currently working as a service engineer where my main duty is to design and supervise electrical installation works for government and public buildings including hospitals, schools, offices etc., according to my duties I get opportunities to meet and work with different people from diverse backgrounds such as contractors, suppliers and technical experts in the construction industry, here is where I continue expand my network and knowledge.

My strong equipment for establishing networking is my people skills and cooperation , I am very humble ,eager and committed person to learn and share ideas with diversity because I believe nobody knows everything and nobody knows nothing , we got to learn from each other as much as we can to be the best at what we are doing career wise.

I believe Chevening community would be the right forum for me to share and connect with people because of diversity it has. Through the community I learn more about my profession and see how people operate in their countries that I could take good ideas and implement back home. I will welcome the community to hear what I have learned and accomplished so far as Engineer and influence them.

the need of energy

Well, I am working as electrical engineer for more than three years now, I have been executing many projects of electrical installation works which includes renewable energy systems, I work on Solar Voltaic (SPV), Solar thermal and I am looking to expand on other sources such as bio mass, wind and waves.

As we know climatic change is the world's agenda, carbon emission has become a threat to human life and the environment we are surrounded with. Therefore engineers and scientists have been working in different technologies to discourage the use of fossil fuels and encourage clean fuels.

I am much desired to pursue my career in ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING AND RENEWABLE ENERGY because I have strong background in electrical engineering subjects as stipulated from my CV; I enjoy working on renewable energy system because Tanzania is the one among of tropical countries which is blessed with many renewable sources such as solar, wind, waves and others.

For example Tanzania receives 4-7kWh/m2 of solar radiation daily according to SOLARIS, which is good solar resource, for all time I worked in this area I observed that Tanzania has lack of energy ready to use not because of lack of energy resources but lack of expertise and awareness. Only 20% of Tanzania has access to national power grid, this make the rest engage in primitive energy production. There are so many villages, public hospitals and schools don't have access, I designed many standalone Solar Systems that are being used in those remote areas. As a young engineer and government employee I think I have a better position to change people's life by my expertise and knowledge I will gain from UK.

As I know selected universities have competent reputation, expertise and good studying environment, I am looking for a place where I can be exposed to advanced knowledge and skills on both engineering and renewable energy systems thus I believe chosen universities fulfil my requirements.

I want to invest myself more on renewable energy because there is the need of energy and the projects are feasible, in my future I am looking to be a leader or influencer in energy industry as I can produce technical expertise in the country and internationally.

For me, leadership isn't just a tittle but its ability to lead people to reach their goals, I believe a good inclusive leader should possess these behaviors; empowering, accountability, courage, humility and above all is integrity. I always lead by executing those behaviors while maintaining professionalism in undertaking my responsibilities because I believe leadership and professionalism are inseparable. Let me briefly explain what I have achieved in my leadership skills so far.

In 2015, when I was working as a Quality assurance office at Zanzibar Bureau of Standards in Zanzibar, I was selected to be a team leader for the project called 'Guidelines for Controlling the Importation of Used Electrical and Electronic Equipment (UEEE) in Zanzibar' I was very excited to take this task because it was my first time to take this huge responsibility.

This project involved surveying, data collection, data analysis, stakeholders meetings, designing of controlling measures and report writings. This task required me to work with different people from different backgrounds and understandings, here is where humility was required to treat them right to reach our goal, it was very challenging project since it also involved end users and suppliers of UEEE who had wrong perception about this project but I was positive and encouraged a team work and cooperation to my group, this resulted sense of belonging and improved accountability.

After completing this project and the Board of Director approved, we were honored and the document was published and in 2016 implementation has started. I believe for this project I have shown my potential in leading and I learnt a lot on how to be a leader not just tittle but by hardworking, integrity and valuing every person's opinion.

Furthermore, Currently I work as Electrical Engineer and my main duty is to design and manage many Government projects where I supervise different contractors with different personalities and qualifications. Most of project I completed are the result of my leadership skills and professionalism.

Now, I see myself to study master's degree to improve the product of my work as I believe the saying "Leadership and learning are indispensable" J.F. Kennedy (Former US President) ,then I sincerely request Chevening Scholarship Committee to select me for better future of Tanzania.
