Advancement in the field of space technology will lead to growth and diversification of Australian economy by creating high-level job opportunities across Australia. Space is integral to how we communicate and see the world. Satellite technology will help support Australia's key sectors such as agriculture, maritime, gas, mining and transport thereby establishing itself as the world leader. It provides emergency management, planning, and weather forecasting inspiring young people to engage in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) thus aligning with the National innovation and space agenda which aims to make Australia the most educated and entrepreneurial nations in the world . With my proposed activity, I intend to bring about innovative developments in this field thereby promoting exchange of technology, ideas to build a strong collaboration between India and Australia in space technology.

Communication between space and earth requires the use of ground stations in remote areas which means regional and remote Australia will have a valuable role in space technology. By working with leading professionals in my proposed specialization area, I would be able to collaborate with research institutions in regional Australia like Western Australia, Tasmania, NSW which has satellite communication operators, commercial, defense and research ground stations. This will definitely promote a greater participation thereby improving the existing network connectivity. Furthermore, economic development and next generation of high value jobs are highly dependent on digital data which makes space crucial part in increasing Australian economy. With the growth in domestic space industry, there will be requirement for people with right skills. This will be a good opportunity to encourage traditionally underrepresented students in STEM to pursue their career in this field. I am confident that with my democratic leadership style, I would be able to make a difference in the number of participation of this group.

my artistic inclinations

I have always been a student with artistic inclination. My formal training in Indian classical music and dance has developed in me qualities such as self-discipline, concentration, patience and creativeness. It taught me the importance of hard work and dedication at every stage in life. This helped me to perform well academically and professionally. I have a good clarity of thoughts therefore I am able to convey my ideas clearly and explain technical terms in such a way that even a layman can understand.

During my final year team project, I took charge and led the team right from planning phase where I explained what I had in mind and listened to the ideas of my team. The combined ideas were formulated and executed in a systematic manner where each team member had a role to play. I made sure that each member knew what the other one was doing as I made them explain what they had been working on to each other. Some of the team members were nervous about having to present the project on stage and preferred not to be on stage. I wanted to get rid of their nervousness so I conducted mock sessions and eventually they had the confidence to come up and speak.

My proposed activity will help me develop my theoretical and practical knowledge and provide me opportunity to work with leading researchers in my field of study. It will help me to closely observe their style of work, their decision making skills, their ideas and adapt it into myself. This will mold me as a better leader capable to lead projects in ISRO on my return to home country. I hope to be a strong motivating leader to my team and contribute significantly in space technology.

Radio frequency and microwave antenna technology comes under the umbrella of Electromagnetism, a branch of Electronics. It's application covers a wide range of sectors namely-Telecommunications, Logistics, Mining, Radio astronomy, etc. For this reason, this technology is used extensively in satellite communications to receive and deliver data in the form of image, voice, encrypted messages, etc using electromagnetic spectrum.

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is conducting research in microwave sensors antenna for it's various satellite launch projects. This year Australian Government has shown keen interest in space research with the announcement to provide seed funding of $26m towards Australian Space Agency and $15m in international space investment. This would be a great opportunity for institutions like IISC (Indian Institute of Science) and ISRO for developing strong relations with Australia in the field of space technology. In addition, AISF (Australia-India Strategic Research Fund) has provided support in the various research conducted in collaboration with India in the development of instruments to measure gravitational wave and radio telescope development. It is evident that in the near future Australia will emerge as one of the leader in space technology at par with countries like USA and China with this collaboration.

A Master's degree in Advanced Electrical Engineering from Monash University will provide me with in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge. It offers specialization in Radio frequency and microwave antenna technology which aligns with my area of interest. The projects conducted at the university under Prof XXX has been truly inspiring and it would be a privilege to gain enough practical experience in this field. This will also help me to interact and work with students from different countries and exchange ideas, information, thoughts, culture making me globally competent.
