Graduate / SOP for MSc Program at TU Delft [2]

Hi, Please help review my SOP.
Thank you

A clear and relevant essay in English (1,000 - 1,500 words) addressing the following:

·Your motivation for choosing this MSc programme.

I desire to be an expert in the design of efficient energy systems and sustainable processes. My interest in energy stems from the need for cleaner and more efficient production processes in my country. The abundance of oil and gas resources has resulted in a lot of oil and gas production activities, and many of these oil production platforms are involved in the constant flaring of associated gases, notwithstanding the fines and strict laws against this. I have chosen to pursue a master's degree in Chemical Engineering at TU Delft to build my expertise in energy-efficient processes. My goal is to design production processes that utilize associated gases from exploration activities to generate power for large communities and other high-powered plants used in industries.

Growing up in a conservative society, my parents advised me to study medical sciences due to the perceived lack of female visibility in Engineering. My penchant for math and chemistry and the ever-growing reliance on the Energy industry influenced my decision to study chemical engineering for my undergraduate degree. I obtained my BEng in Chemical Engineering with honours in July 2019 from XYZ University, Nigeria. As a requirement, I enrolled in classes such as Engineering Mathematics, thermodynamics, Transport Phenomena, Unit Operations, Chemical Reaction Engineering, Process Optimization and Chemical Engineering Plant Design. The lecture delivery and class activities were insightful, and this helped me develop an interest in sustainable processes and process control. In the practical aspect of these courses, I led a team of 10 to design a plant for the production of Liquefied Petroleum Gas at 3900scf/day. As a team, we were able to fulfil the requirements of the project and achieve a set deliverable which was a final product that had a calculated 99 percent purity level. The completion of this project gave me the requisite knowledge in designing chemical processes.

Scholarship / Reason for Studying in UK - Chevening Essay; knowledge required to achieve my career goal in Nigeria [3]

Hi, kindly review my Chevening study essay. I appreciate you help.

three university courses chosen

Outline why you have selected your chosen three university courses, and explain how this relates to your previous academic or professional experience and your plans for the future. Please enter new information and examples here and not duplicate the information you have entered on the work experience and education section of this form (minimum word count: 100 words, maximum word count: 500 words)

The economy of my home country, Nigeria, depends hugely on crude oil. Income from this resource makes up over 80 percent of the federal government's revenue and more than 90 percent in foreign exchange earnings.

The over-dependence of the economy on the revenue from Crude Oil export has left other industrial sectors in jeopardy. Diversification of the economy is imminent; Nigeria has additional resources that can also provide economic value. During my undergraduate degree, I was part of a research team that produced fuel from waste materials. This research sparked my interest in renewable and sustainable energy and propelled me to further my graduate degree.

I have chosen to study Chemical Engineering at the University of Nottingham, Trent because it combines my research interests, process design, and renewable energy in its core modules. The program gives a detailed insight into the physical and chemical principles for the low-carbon manufacturing of fuels and vital materials needed for implementing sustainable change in the energy sector. I am also excited because the program gives real-life projects, and students participate in designing an efficient and sustainable process to solve a problem.

I have also chosen to study Oil and Gas Engineering at the University of Aberdeen. As a chemical engineer, knowledge about the relationship between oil and gas is imperative to making necessary reforms to Nigeria's energy sector. Gas is an essential, highly volatile resource. It can be used to power large turbines and plants to generate more power in my country. However, the presence of any form of fluid in the gas during use can be catastrophic. Knowledge about such characteristics and is very crucial to my career. Aberdeen is also the energy capital of Europe, and studying at The University of Aberdeen puts me in the center of the Energy Industry. The program benefits from industry involvement. The school's strategic location in the city will allow me to go on educational site visits and field trips.

Lastly, I chose to study Sustainable Engineering: Chemical Processing at the University of Strathclyde because it also combines all of my research interests, Renewable Energy and Advanced Process Design. The program also has a financial engineering course, which I was excited to see because most engineers focus only on the technical details and leave out the financial economics associated. Setting up a renewable energy institute will require some form of financial knowledge to manage the capital base. The program also involves a research project that simulates a problem and requires me to provide a sustainable solution with a minimal carbon footprint. At the program's conclusion, I will have satisfied the requirements to attain Chartered Engineer status, granting me global recognition and opening me to an expansive engineer network.

The three courses will provide me with the necessary knowledge required to achieve my career goal in Nigeria. I am optimistic that after my Master's in the UK, I will have developed a sought-after understanding of sustainable approaches and practices.

Scholarship / Leaders of Change - Leadership skills for Chevening scholarship [4]

Hi, Your Essay is great and you have good leadership ability. My comment would be that you should separate your essay using the generic Introduction, Body and Conclusion format. Additionally, you should give weight to the effects of your Leadership. Show more of the positive impact you had in your community or society.

Cheers!!

Scholarship / Leadership is People Development [3]

I am applying for the Chevening Scholarship and will appreciate your help reviewing my essays, Thankyou!!!

Chevening is looking for individuals

... who will be future leaders or influencers in their home countries. Explain how you meet this requirement, using clear examples of your own leadership and influencing skills to support your answer. (minimum word count: 100 words, maximum word count: 500 words)

People are the best resource a country has, and I am passionate about helping people become better versions of themselves. My love for contributing to human development started in high school. My school is in a rural area where many community kids did not have the resources to go to school. I joined the bridge of care program to raise money for kids in the community to attend school for free. During my holiday, I did menial jobs for various individuals in exchange for money, contributing to the bridge of care program. I did personal campaigns where I was able to convince people to donate to the program. By the time I was graduating, over 200 children previously not in school were enrolled in the community's local primary school. Also, exceptional children who had finished their primary school were given scholarships to attend my high school. I had the privilege to renew hope for kids who had lost hope in school.

In my profession, I have also been able to negotiate a system where new interns are given training in their respective departments before being assigned any project. I worked with Total E&P Nigeria as an undergraduate intern. I was assigned to the Contract and Procurement Department without any prior knowledge of their activities. I gathered the interns in a similar situation, and we made formal complaints to human resources, which the Human Resource Manager rejected. This rejection did not hinder me. I proposed an alternative, a two- or three-day orientation period where the interns are briefed about the department's activities to ensure interns have adequate knowledge about the fundamental activities carried out in their departments and its importance. I was also able to negotiate two days for interdepartmental learning where interns go to their department of interest for two days and spend the rest of the week in their assigned department. All departments implemented this suggestion, and individual departments organized a brief orientation. Subsequently, interns didn't have problems completing tasks assigned to them.

As the first child in my family, I have encouraged my siblings' academic development by holding lessons in math and sciences with them. Along with tutoring, I gave my younger brother the mentoring he needed to realize his dream, which was to have a stellar academic result. Eventually, he had the best grades in his class and even went ahead to do the same for a younger sibling, creating a chain of successes that I inspired. Like John C. Maxwell said, being a leader is not only about creating results; it is also about making people who again go on to produce more leaders and multiply influences.

In conclusion, I have been committed to developing people in my community, and I believe that human development is crucial in assessing the impact a leader has.
