51,000 million is the estimated number of tons of greenhouse gases that are contributed each year, and this figure tends to grow. The earth is warming due to human activity, since the pre-industrial era the temperature has risen 1° and if emissions are not reduced, it can increase up to 3° by 2050. This additional heat has an impact on changes in the climate, which in turn impacts economic growth and consequently on the quality of life, not only for the human being, but for all the species and the ecosystems. However, the solution considered by science is the net-zero commitment, which proposes the non-emission of greenhouse gases, applying tools such as solar and wind energy and innovating in cutting-edge technology. To address this issue and be those who thrive to transform business practices, I want to pursue an academic path that allows me to work as a Sustainability Consultant, devising new approaches to business models that fits for 21st century realities, contributing to establishing Net Zero strategies and driving green business building strategies.

Throughout my studies I focused on modules that enabled me to comprehend strategic methodologies and innovation tools to launch new business within international markets, and at the same time comprehend that we must replace the goal of infinite growth with growth in equilibrium. In 2016 I took part in a work-study summer program course "International entrepreneurship Challenge" where I explored current ventures and entrepreneurship challenges such as government bureaucracy, risk-taking and home and host operations, but analyzing the opportunities to take advantage from external and internal environments. From this point, I understood the importance as a leader and the dynamics of innovation within the capture of opportunities guided towards change. Additionally, these topics built my interest in transforming an idea into a solution service for climate change with key technologies, profiting from innovation and key alliances.

In 2018 I held an internship at Ecopetrol, a colombian oil company, where I was responsible to lead the risk control and mitigation project to prevent oil spills, it was necessary to know the root problem to create a correct resolution flow. For this,I had the initiative to adapt and implement Six Sigma as a tool to support the strategic decision. This led to the control and elimination of the problems identified that generated delays and conflicts in the management of environmental disaster prevention measures. Being part of this project provided me with a greater understanding of the importance of transparency of ESG in companies and how this is related with a business model that have the objective of understanding its degree of sustainability, focusing on long-term value creation and where sustainable models innovation creates new sources of differentiation, carrying out an economic activity without endangering social life and without sacrificing natural resources.

This understanding was reaffirmed in 2020 while I was working leading the Latin American market entry strategy project for a landscape and irrigation brazilian company. Making use of several strategic market assessment tools to increase positioning in Latin American countries, I identified three South American countries that have a decrease in rainfall due to the effects of climate change, which in turn generates a latent need for technical irrigation in areas of agriculture and landscaping. The correct management of the water resource for these countries means a growth in economic productivity, especially when agricultural activity accounts for a large part of GDP. Since then, I became aware that green-growth opportunities are leading the way and new models of resource efficiency are emerging at a rapid pace.

In 2021 I joined the consulting club of the Federal University of Ceará, a study group focused on the development of solving real business problems that at the same time stimulates the preparation towards the consulting career. For the past year I have read, discussed and participated in business cases for Brazilian companies, focusing on the transformation of their business models towards a circular economy model. I currently acted as an active consultant within the club, assisting and imparting learning material for club members, which developed my autonomy and my critical thinking ability.

Currently, my primary ambition is to conduct research on transition to a circular economy in StartUps and new ventures in Latin America, by transforming business models, accelerating sustainable finance and investing and building sustainable supply chains. My main interest is understanding how we can transform today's economies that are degenerative by default, into economies that are regenerative by design. I particularly witnessed this reality during my internship, which reinforced my aspiration to become a sustainability consultant, helping businesses to optimize for social and business value.

The Management Engineering with Circular Economy as track program is ideal for me considering its stimulating curriculum with courses such as "Leadership and Innovation", "Strategy and Marketing" and "Circular economy business Models", allowing me to build great insights on sustainable and innovation strategies and identifying key methodologies for business models conversion. Joining this university would enable me to be part of a highly qualified and multicultural community where important topics are discussed by people with several backgrounds. The university also provides different spaces that I would like to contribute to, such as the Città studi sustainable campus, where I can find a space to be part of and be involved working for the vision of sustainable campuses. The Re-Netta research activity would also allow me to work with exceptional work teams towards the circular economy in the building sector.

Fifty-one billion is the approximate number of tons of greenhouse gases that the world contributes each year, and usually this figure tends to grow. The earth is warming because of human activity, we have already raised the temperature by at least one degree since the pre-industrial era and if we do not reduce emissions, the temperature will probably increase between one degree and three by 2050. All this additional heat will cause several changes in the climate, which in turn will greatly impact economic growth and consequently the conditions in which people live will worsen. It is estimated that agriculture in developing countries suffered 23% of damage and losses caused by large-scale climatic disasters between 2006 and 2016 according to FAO, and a third of the population of Latin America and the Caribbean live in areas at high risk of natural disasters, especially affecting the poorest. Although there will be societies more affected than others in the climate change scenario, the impact of rising temperatures will be widespread, this due in part to the economic, financial and political integration of world economies, mainly influencing productivity loss, mass migrations and damage to structures.

However, the solution to stop climate change is the net-zero commitment. We must stop emitting greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, applying the tools we already have such as solar and wind energy intelligently and quickly and create and innovate in cutting-edge technology to achieve the task. To address this issue and be those who thrive to transform business practices that have been established for decades, if not longer, encouraged me to pursue an academic path that allows me to work in Environmental Development Institutions and be a Sustainability Consultant to act as a preeminent impact partner, setting up Net Zero strategies and empowering business focused on green business building.

That is why I am looking forward to have the opportunity to learn from the modules Political Economy of development due to their interdisciplinary implementation of theoretical and historical elements in the economic conception of development and to be able to link them with modules such as ecological economic, to analyze economic models that reproduces the interaction between economic development and climate change on a global scale. MOTTIVATION LETTER

I have a bachelor's degree in International Business that I obtained after four years of studies in Colombia, where I had academic experiences in international markets and environmental responsibility. Bearing in mind that my goal is to be able to work in Environmental Development Institutions and be a Sustainability Consultant to act as a preeminent impact partner, I would like to apply for the Master of Global Markets Local Creativities, track F.

Studying International Business during my undergraduate at the EAN University in Colombia; a university that has sustainability as a fundamental pillar in its curriculum, gave me a strong knowledge of sustainable entrepreneurship as a concept of integration between the economic, social and environmental that will certainly be useful in strategic directions as part of consultancies with a focus on sustainability. In my internship, while I was involved of the quality control process mitigation and monitoring project as part of the oil spill containment efforts team at Ecopetrol, I realised it is vital of carrying out an economic activity without endangering social life and without sacrificing natural resources by helping to build new businesses that lead to global sustainability efforts. This conception was reaffirmed while attending several Green Business seminars as part of the entrepreneurship classrooms at the university. Thus, the main reason I am keen on joining this program is to link up my previous studies in entrepreneurship and consulting with practical uses of sustainable development through the development of skills to solve strategic topics in sustainable corporate alternatives.

My genuine interest in consulting comes from when I was in college and as part of an academic project, I had the opportunity to participate in X-Culture, a global program in which students from around the world solved business problems for start-ups from distinct countries and market segments. By virtue of this, I understood that I could focus my future projects to work on solving corporate problems. However, my greatest interest in sustainability consulting came when I worked as an international representative and consultant for a Brazilian company that develops softwares for landscaping and irrigation. In light of the fact that those softwares allow designing irrigation and gardening systems in search of resource optimization, one of my challenges was to implement different tactics of entry to international markets in Latin America, including Chile and Argentina, countries that due to their geographical position have dry regions that require large irrigation systems to maintain their cultivation extensions in conjunction with an excellent maximization of water resources. Since then, I became aware that green-growth opportunities are leading the way and new models of resource efficiency are emerging at a rapid pace. Hence, to keep my efforts directed to consulting and to be able to participate in different projects, I joined the consulting club of the Federal University of Ceará in Brazil, where I play the role of consultant on different growth strategic plans for Brazilian StartUps.

I am looking forward to have the opportunity to learn from the modules Modern Natures: Conflicts and transformation, Sustainable development and trade and Actors and Strategies for change - Towards Global Sustainabilities, due to their interdisciplinary implementation of the close scrutiny of the relationship between economic history and environmental policies and their long-term impact on resource overexploitation and its external side effects. Similarly, with the Actors and Strategies change course, having the opportunity to analyze change strategies and be discussed as workshops in addition to having the possibility of working on a change project, will allow me to develop the skills and capacities necessary to put into practice what I learned in previous modules and is directly related to my future objectives.

There are emerging needs in Latin America for the responsible use of natural resources amid the continuous growth of the population and consequently, the growth of the construction industry in both urban and rural areas. In one of my trips through the ecotourism destinations of Colombia, I had the opportunity to participate in an excursion in the Andean and coffee region, where we were able to perceive the importance of the protection of hydrographic systems, both for the balance of ecosystems and to be able to continue with the ecotourism industry. Within the efforts of the community to safeguard the natural habitat, they designed rainwater channels within the natural reserves with a material called plastic wood, this material is composed of 60% wood and 40% polyethylene plastic, which makes it an ideal recyclable product that can be molded to the desired shape and is resistant against any type of climate, low temperatures and water, transforming it into an ideal material for the construction of houses and different types of architecture, but that is not recognized or used in the construction industry. As a topic for my Master's thesis I would like to be able to focus on how plastic wood can be a potential substitute for natural wood in the construction industry in Colombia, addressing my project to an optimization of the production chain, a development of go-to-market strategy and identifying opportunities for future applications.

Track F offers a perfect balance between theoretical knowledge and practical skills, which I believe will improve my research and critical thinking skills for problem solving as a sustainability consultant. Therefore, I am certain the Global Political Economy Master will give me the necessary knowledge to work in the Green Business Building and to pursue a PH.D. in this field.
