One of the most memorable activities I have been involved is the project that I am enrolled at the moment, it is the project "Cidadăos do Mundo". It consist in teach, at the moment 68 students, the English Language in Santana - AP. Santana is a very poor port city, where the English classes is only offered at school that you have to pay to study. So, the project came up to finish with it and give a great chance to the low-income population.

As a volunteer all I wanted to do was to share my knowledge with these people, however, after I realized that more than teach the students, I have learned so much with them.

In my first day at the project was their test day. So the teacher said to the students I was an American boy, from Texas, and then he said I would ask them some questions as a part of their test. Nobody suspected of my nationality and I had I lot of fun with the students after tell them the real history, they are really nice people. I really felt pleased in making part of the project, which open doors to dozens of people. Every day I am more excited about the project, because each one of them teaches me things that nowhere else in the world I would learn.

Undergraduate / "Casa Para Todos" - HONORS PROGRAM - GOALS AND PLANS FOR FUTURE [NEW]

Senator John Kerry said in a 2004 presidential debate that "Our college students represent only 20 percent of our population, but they are 100 percent of our future."

I totally agree with this sentence of the Senator John Kerry, college education is more than essential for our world today. With my college education I hope to achieve a great economic stability and security to me and my family. But in my opinion, obtaining a college degree is not just about making money. A good college education will also give me a broad base of knowledge on which to build. It will teach me to solve more of life's problems. It will give me future reference points for discussing whether art, entertainment, politics or history.

May last year the Brazilian government created a program called "Casa Para Todos", a very celebrated program by the population. Consisting of helping the underprivileged people to have access to adequate housing, the program is promoting the construction of more than twenty thousand homes in several Brazilian cities. So, my main goal to my career is to return to Brazil after my graduation and help this poor Brazilian population, giving them the opportunity to have good quality housing with an affordable price, without harming nature. Making a fairer country.

Why do you want to join the Tennessee Tech Honors Program?

The Honors Program is known worldwide for its ability to challenge and help students become scholars geared for a higher level of learning. Since I realized that, I started to search for a technology University where I would be able to continue my studies at a high level, and a university that would lift my personal principles as well. The Tennessee Technological University Honors Program has stood out as a great way to continue to challenge my mind throughout college, and help me gain integrity and a clear sense of priorities and values.

The fact that Tennessee Tech is built on small classes and discussion board was one of the major factors of my choice. Smaller groups are undoubtedly better because you can interact easily with other students; the professor can work individually with each one and will identify you by name, knowing your strengths and weaknesses. Another factor that was also essential for my choice is the fantastic and well-known recognized Engineering program that Tennessee Tech offers.

I know that being involved in the Tennessee Tech Honors Program will improve my academic curriculum, allowing me to succeed after college graduation in my professional and personal live through the skills developed in the program. Throughout my whole life, I have sought out and taken on challenges. I know that the Tennessee Tech Honors Program is the perfect program to continue the challenges in my life, and I ask you for your approval for my undertaking of this challenge. At Tennessee Technological University, I hope to grow and succeed into a mature and well-educated adult, and bring the values I have learned at Tennessee Tech through the rest of my life, whether in Brazil or wherever I go.
