Undergraduate / "Everything happens for a reason." Helping Others [13]

If you were to write a book about your life, what would be the title? 50 words or less

"Lost in a Fast-Paced World." I have found that I lived life as a robot and have only in the past few years learned to slow down and to find room for God and my family.

"My Life" As simple as that, you will glimpse into the very essence of my soul. It is as real as it gets.

Could you guys also give me an opinion on which one to use.

Undergraduate / (Study history / Video games) - NYU essays [5]

A special academic interest of mine has for a long time been the study of history. Ever since picking up a book on ancient Roman history in the elementary school I have been fascinated by the ways of the past. With the strong history major program present in NYU in history I would love to participate in the advanced European history courses and the seminars on the Eurasian history due to my interest in the European history, and my heritage pertaining to the Eurasian history . If presented with the opportunity I would also like to participate in the editing of the "Historian" journal which serves to be the oldest undergraduate history journal in the United States of America. The commitment of NYU to its global network is fascinating to me, as I wish to further my education on the European history by taking the course on French Revolution and Napoleon through the Global Study program located in Paris, France, as I would also like to take the course on the history of contemporary Latin America in Buenos Aires.(run on sentence, split in to two) Although history is my major academic interest, I also possess interests in other areas as well. Because of the variety of courses offered at NYU, other than history I would also like to explore the fields of mathematics, and economics by taking courses in these fields, and I would also possibly attempt to minor in economics as well.

Whenever I am somewhat free, one my favorite hobbies is to play video games. However, the one that always takes away my breath away s the franchise of "Assassin's Creed".

hope this helps!

Loved your essay! One suggestion- what if you go more in depth and mention a specific thing related to the economics major? It would show the schoolhow much you have researched it.

Thank you for the feedback. I listened to your suggestion about staying on topic. How does this work? What do you think about the conclusion and transition between the second and last paragraph?

Undergraduate / Personal statement emphasizing your accomplishments, educational and career goals [2]

Ever since I was small I have had a passion for technology, especially computers. Every day I was fascinated by what they could do and how they even worked. I grew more interested in them every day until it became clear to me that working with computers is what I ]want to do in life. I want to become a computer engineer to help create better computers that can do more than those of today'stoday's can do.

My goals for the future are to finish college as the first one in my family. To make my parents proud and get (to provide would be better) a better life for myself since through my parents I have learned how tough life can be without a good education or higher education (you pick)already showed me it's a tough life if you don't have a good education. I want to do this especially to get a career that I will enjoy doing my whole life no matter how complicated it get, especially since I will be able to create something in my career and I will know that I helped make it possible.

I know Computer Engineering takes a lot of handwork and dedication since there is so much you need to know about it, but I am sure I can do it. In the past years, I have done things I thought I would never be able to do such as designing a web site or creating a game even if it was a simple one. Those things were tough to do but I enjoyed doing them no matter how complicated it got since they gave me a challenge and gave me the opportunity to create something.

you sound very honest. good job.

Grammar is not the best. Harsh feedback please!! Suggestions.
1. St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus, encouraged his followers to live their lives in the service of others. How do you plan to serve others in your future endeavors?

"Americanos!" a young Dominican boy said pointing to my classmates and me as we walked into the classroom ready to begin our lesson. Each student smiled widely and enthusiastically, eager to get to know the foreigners who would be teaching them English. My classmates and I interacted with them, teaching them the basics such as azul is blue and counting numbers from 1 to 25. Their smiles, a sincere gesture of their gratitude, instilled in me a warm satisfaction. A few of this children resided in the orphanage I was staying at where we spent our time playing with them. All they wanted from us was to play with them, nothing else, just thirty minutes of my attention. Attention that meant the world to them.

After this trip my drive for providing service to to others, grew deeper in me, and as a result I decided to become more involved in the community service program at my school. Furthermore, I will continue my involvement in service throughout my future endeavors in and beyond college. The experience I had during my time in the Dominican Republic strengthened my desire to pursue a career that will afford me an opportunity to make a change. To provide those who face challenges such as access to an education and basic necessities a chance to have those "luxuries" in their lives. I would love to work for a non-profit organization to bring protection and necessities to those who lack it. It would be a dream come true if I became a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador or if I could work or intern at the United Nations.

I'm excited to form part of the various programs Boston College has to offer. Through majoring in International Studies at the College of Arts and Sciences and the PULSE Program, helping others will become a possibility. Likewise, the Service Immersion Programs will give me an opportunity to immerse in the culture of the people I encounter while providing them with any services that they need. There are many different kinds of adversity people face whether it's materially, physically, mentally, or emotionally, but one thing is common among them, a helping hand means more than any material thing or money could ever bring them.

Undergraduate / Travel and discovering new places; Cornell University:College of Human Ecology Essay [2]

I aspire to travel the world, discovering places that are new to me. In doing so, my eyes will be exposed to the injustices that many innocent people have to live with. People talk about how bad things are in this country, but in reality there are some people who are forced to walk miles everyday just to get some water. This is why I am eager to build my career around studying laws, foreign policy, and politics. I value the College of Human Ecology because there are many aspects that need to be analyzed while dealing with delicate issues that arise when injustice occurs. In order to solve these problems, I need this knowledge to approach the situation in the best way possible. Cornell University will give me the knowledge I need to go forward in my career.

Point out a class related to this major that you are interested in taking. Great Essay!! Good job.

Undergraduate / I love to laugh/ Curiosity; Stanford Supplment- Roommate/ What matter & why? [2]

My grammar is not the best. Any suggestions? Does it feel like too many thoughts are jumbled together?

Virtually all of Stanford's undergraduates live on campus. Write a note to your future roommate that reveals something about you or that will help your roommate - and us - know you better.

Dear Roommate,

My name is Astrid and I'm excited to meet you! At first I may seem shy, quiet, and timid but once you get to know me you will know that and tease people. I have been told that I have the funniest one liners and that sometimes I am too blunt (Once you meet me you can decide on that). Within days of getting to know me you will find out that I love watching sports: football, baseball, basketball, and soccer, anything (I'm a huge Raiders, Patriots, Dodgers, Lakers fan, so if you are Charger, Celtics, or San Francisco Giants fan this is going to be very interesting). I hope you enjoy watching sports and hopefully can root together or against each other, while we have fun hanging out. I can be messy but I would much rather be organized. Besides that, I am pretty laid back. I love sleeping in. Languages are my thing, I speak English and Spanish and I am learning Mandarin and French (I know how to do my ABC's in Sign Language). I can be your confidant, I am loyal and will keep everything you tell me with me. Sweets are my biggest enemy: brownies, chocolate chip cookies, anything with chocolate you bet I will be all over it. One crazy fact about me I may be from Southern California but I do not know how to swim. In the end you will know that I am very friendly and care about everyone that I know; family and friends are the most important thing to me.

What matters to you, and why?

Curiosity matters to me. As I am on the bus going home, I look out the window and observe the people who are driving. Where are they going? Who are they? What do they do? And the questions go on and on, never directly knowing the answer, but indirectly knowing that no matter how different they might be from me they can be pretty similar to me. Curiosity is what drives people to seek the answers to that which they do not know. I enjoy questioning and wondering about what I do not know. I am amazed by the ways things work. What was the creator of hangers thinking when he or she created them? How did toys come to be? I love thinking about what people in the past thought the future would be like and if it did become true. I am always wanting to know, I dislike not knowing, it's as if that one thing I do not know will make or break everything I know. Everything matters when you do not know.
