Undergraduate / (Apollo 11, Scientific Achievements) - NYY [2]

somewhat polished essays just curious if anyone had any style changes or points that i should hit on

A. NYU's global network provides students with hundreds of academic areas of interest for students to cultivate their intellectual curiosity and to help achieve their career goals. Whether you are entirely undecided about your academic plans or you have a definitive program of study in mind, what are your own academic interests? Feel free to share any thoughts on any particular programs or how you might explore those interests at NYU on any of our campuses.

New York University's value of diversity and human capital is what attracts me so strongly to the school, it has something that even in this time of rapidly expanding globalization is rare to find. The education available at New York University not only is strong domestically but the school has great presence abroad as well, attending school at New York University offers me a not only global awareness but a global education. A feature that I think is frequently overlooked and undervalued in today's average American education.

I have been interested in technology and business for as long as I can remember. The opportunities that are available is such a city as New York are unrivaled, New York University has something that no other school can replicate. Personally i have always felt more at home in the city than a typical suburban setting where i would say the majority of the universities are currently. Additionally the internship and employment opportunities that New York University students have access to work hands on in such a diverse and complex city is why I want to go to New York University , to expand my knowledge in a way that no other school or environment could offer me.

What intrigues you? Tell us about one work of art, scientific achievement, piece of literature, method of communication, or place in the world (a film, book, performance, website, event, location, etc.), and explain its significance to you.

The Apollo Eleven Mission to the moon is a feat that is astonishing act of technological achievement and of American motivated success. The soviets launched a hollow missile shell into orbit in the summer of 1957. It was given the name of Sputnik (or friendly traveler) and humble equipment that consisted of a radio and a thermometer. This first went largely unnoticed by the American public until intelligence reports leaked that it was made from a ballistic missile. This news sent shockwaves through the American public and psyche. America scrambled to assemble a space program that could surpass the soviets technologically. Within the year congress replaced the former aeronautics program with NASA, and poured millions into both private and public schools and colleges. An ambitious new president announced to the world that we will put a man on the moon before the end of the century and surely enough we did. About twelve years after the start of the space race America reached the finished. A small metal spacecraft armed with two men, a few rocket boosters and a computer that was woven by little old ladies. It was an accomplishment that reflected American ingenuity and determination, something that some might say we are lacking today. The reason I want to go to NYU is so that one day I can contribute something as historic as the Apollo Eleven Moon Mission.

Undergraduate / Common application essay computer hacking and ary [2]

Concern ran across my face when Jim, the Director of Technology, requested a private meeting in his office. I was not doing anything intentionally wrong. I was experimenting with snippets of computer code, some of my own and some I found available on the Internet. I was challenging my computer skills, pushing the limits of my understanding of network security. After a couple of days of programming, I found my computer had the ability to access not only the Facebook pages of other students but any supposedly secure page of any user was viewing on the network. I had access to Amazon accounts, ITunes, email sites, and even banking websites by using a couple lines of code. Right away, I sent my findings to the Director of Technology along with my advice on how to patch this astounding security hole in the system.

Showing off like sports

He then asked for the meeting. I didn't know what to expect. We talked extensively about the problem and how I came to my findings. An hour after the meeting started, I was consulting on computer security for the school.

School administrators were not enthused about the security breach, but the response was anything but severe. They briefly and symbolically banned me from specific Internet use-even though I was regularly helping them redesign the security features of the network.

Attending a small prep school definitely has its disadvantages, for example when anyone knew something everyone knew something.
They shot me puzzled and concerned looks. My classmates did not know that I was working with the Director of Technology. I tried to explain that I was trying to help, that I never meant to access anybody's personal information or intrude on privacy. My earnest explanations often resulted in glazed looks and deeper confusion due to the complexity that was involved. People thought I was some black hat menace, lurking in the shadows, but I was really making the network a safer place. This was the scandal of the semester: an advanced computer attack. Some classmates were afraid to use their computers, and it was my fault.

I have been involved with computers for many years, and this powerful experience had an impact like nothing before. It broadened my academic interests to include fields (what fields?) that might help me achieve some insight into the impact technology has on all of us. I joined the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) that focuses on the economic and legal topics involved in information privacy. Being a member of EFF has given me a window into the exciting and problematic cutting edge of technology. My comfort and facility with computers is much more than a hobby. I consistently research the latest news in technology and have taken classes with the Jim, who I like to think as more of a peer than a teacher. I meet with him almost everyday, and I am not as nervous as I was two years ago.

1000 character essay
The exercise of painting is challenging; as it requires me to be genuine and confront my inner workings, a task that I rarely have to attempt in my core curriculum. During my European Classroom experience, I harnessed a skill that allows me to express myself. Painting provides self-reflection as well as a view into society. Artistic expression was once something that I never fully understood but now it is a hobby I enjoy developing. I have no intentions of being a world-renowned artist, but painting is practices that has greatly affected my personal growth and has helped me become a well-rounded and reflective individual.

Undergraduate / I am six foot tall; Height and U Chicago [9]

In the last paragraph you dont need to say "I could open many closed doors", it can be inferred that if you could open something that it was previously not opened (or closed) and you should probably change it to can instead of could (the affirmative helps (shows action)).

I look forward to your next essay about your hair color and how your house # has affected your personal development.

Undergraduate / Carnegie Mellon University Essay - My Reason for Choosing this School [4]

what is Pokemon, i think you mean PokĂŠmon. your second sentence is not necessary in my opinion. why is magikarp capitalized, it is non possessive (you would not say i shot a Deer). I really like pokemon and i dont love this essay, even if the guy reading this essay understands these references (he probs wont) it is self indulgent, the PokĂŠmon stuff just is filler.

Undergraduate / UPENN/NURSING TEAR ME TO SHREDS. NO MERCY [NEW]

Hey i really want to know what you think, i have taken some real classes at upenn but i need to apply again

A Penn education provides a liberal arts and sciences foundation across multiple disciplines with a practical emphasis in one of four undergraduate schools: the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Engineering and Applied Science, the School of Nursing, or the Wharton School.

Given the undergraduate school to which you are applying, please discuss how you will engage academically at Penn. (Please answer in 300 words or less.)

Initially I never had strong intentions of going to University of Pennsylvania for any undergraduate program, it was only after my time in the Liberal and Professional Studies program that I realized that University of Pennsylvania was a place I could see myself being a part of. Experiencing University of Pennsylvania classrooms and students gave me a sense of place and belonging that I have yet to find in any other program. I would intentionally walk in the wrong direction of my transit stop before and after class so that I could stroll up and down the scenic Locust Walk and experience the prestige and beauty of the University of Pennsylvania buildings. Even in the off summer months I could still sense the academic electricity that rested below the facade, this felling intensity of the students and teachers is what I can emulate. The academic spark trait is alive in me and I want to be challenged by the curriculum and my peers, the University of Pennsylvania is one of the few locations in the world where I can do so. I find myself only improving and learning in the face of competition and challenge both I can say with certainty exist at University of Pennsylvania.

I plan on giving University of Pennsylvania my all because that is what it will ask of me, and nothing less.

Ben Franklin once said, 'All mankind is divided into three classes: those that are immovable, those that are movable, and those that move.'

Which are you?3-5

Before establishing which of the three I would place my self I want to clarify the question. The first of the three classes is the immobile, someone that not only does not wish to move but lacks the ability altogether. This is someone that has no ability to move metaphorically, content with a closed mind, blissful in his or her ignorance and habits. This position is obviously not desirable but it is a state that is too common in today's reality. The opposite of which is also treacherous in todays society, someone that moves does exactly that, their function of going in one direction aimlessly and continuously such as a vector behaves is just as frightful to society and mankind as someone that does not move at all. Someone that just moves in a direction has a likelihood to succeed in some ways but has the same likelihood or even more to cause a detriment to mankind; Most car accidents are caused by drives that do not know where they are going.

Having the ability to be stand still in one's convictions but be able to move in the face of confrontation (or to simplify those that maintain ideal of having an open mind) are vital to mankind more so than the ones that move or the ones that are unmovable. The question phrases the classes of people in a way that all of humanity tends to think, to over glorify leadership and the ones that move, yes it takes ambition for a leader to move in the first place but it is the ones that are movable on their own accord that are great. It is because of these leaders that there is validity to the ones that move, having the ability to think freely enough to recognize the great ideas when they are presented and to look onwards when and another idea is mediocre. That is what we need in our society, that kind is what Mr. Franklin and the rest of the founding fathers had in mind when creating this great republic, a system based on educated and well informed populace with the ability to move, to vote, to preside, rather than the sheer conviction to or not to at all. That is why a President has his staff and his Cabinet to help him make decisions, why a scientist has research and other scientist to peer review and ultimately confirm data, and why a student has professors and classmates to teach him or her.

That is what I am, someone that looks up, someone that can make his own decisions and have independently formed ideas and principles. This is a quality that is typically overlooked and is too frequently replaced with blind leadership and faith. Acting rationally is typically assumed in ecology but it is not something we as society should expect, we must come to terms with the immovable and the ones that can only move.

Discuss your interest in nursing and health care management. How might Penn's coordinated dual-degree program in nursing and business help you meet your goals?

Coming from a family with a mother who started her own health care related company and a father whose discipline has strong business management fundamentals I might say that I am predisposed to the field. Attending classes this past summer at University of Pennsylvania gave me a glimpse of what it would be like to be a U. Penn student. I felt that I was in an environment that was occupied with intelligent individuals and professors that fostered creativity and success is something that I found myself addicted to. University of Pennsylvania is a place where can learn and succeed like nowhere else.

I have spent a few summers working for a small clinical trials company, getting to see all of the steps and hurdles that a drug must overcome to reach the market. Though tasks such as spending months cataloging doctors and weeks licking and sealing thousands of envelopes seemed clerical and mundane to me at first my opinion was soon changed as I started to see the bigger picture. During these periods I was able to find one of the most interesting and challenging fields available. Medicine can involve so much more than pure clinical knowledge, the importance of business savvy and management skills is not typically expected.

Since the beginning of high school I have always found myself involved in servicing communities. I understand that healthcare is a profession it would amazing to have a role that is not only facing the public but one that also is helping people.

The Penn's coordinated dual-degree program in nursing and business presents an opportunity for people such as my self that cannot be ignored. The University of Pennsylvania has tremendous resources when it comes to the study of nursing and management. Those resources are why I feel a need to attend the University of Pennsylvania and responsible for the success of many and the enlightenment of even more.

Undergraduate / BU SUP; Why Boston Uni? Opportunities [4]

The reasons that I am attracted to Boston University are countless. Boston University provides not only strong traditional academic exposure but also practical opportunities. Current students most commonly reference research opportunities as one of their favorite things about Boston University. The ability to do my own research is something that I am passionate about and I anticipate the ability to do so at Boston University. Additionally they comment that they are not only learning but having fun while learning.

Both the in and out of classroom learning opportunities available in Boston are remarkable. Boston University offers one of the strongest computer science and business programs in the country. Looking at the course catalog from previous years, I can tell that BU is a school that caters to my interests.

Some people complain that Boston University is difficult because its urban location. I can hardly see how this is a negative feature. BU takes advantage of its urban setting by incorporating the city into its curriculum. I thrive in urban settings and I am galvanized by the possibilities and opportunities available to students at Boston University. Having access to hands-on learning in such a diverse and multi-faceted city is why I want to go to BU. I am excited to expand my horizon in a way that no other school or environment could allow me to.

Looking for any and all comments (gramatical or other)

Undergraduate / I am excited to expand my horizon ; George Washington University [2]

I am always active when it comes to the latest technology news, and technology is becoming something that has been structurally changed because of our policy makers. The majority of the existing laws are not clear when it comes to today legal disputes over tech-related issues. The evolution of technology moves so swiftly that a reform of everything from anti-trust to patent interpretation. Working somewhere that has influence over this topic is a place that I see myself being involved with in the future.

That is why George Washington University poses such a great opportunity to me. The environment of Washington D.C. encapsulates the policy makers that weigh on how the public will use and interact with the most valuable resource in the world, information. As someone who can see them self in a role of working for or starting a Tech Company it would be a privilege to be able to have the foresight for not only the technical or financial side but from the legislative perspective as well.

The Office of Entrepreneurship shows GW's commitment to stay on the bleeding edge of business and technology. Providing internships and opportunities to students so that they have all the tools that they need when they graduate to be successful in not only today's global economic structure but also the one on the horizon.

There always seems to be a sense of enthusiasm in the voice of someone who is talking about George Washington University. Whenever I spoke to a student I could tell how much they adored their school, and when I had the opportunity to stay with a student on campus I was excited to go and glad that I did.

Some people complain that GW does not have a separated campus, but I can hardly see how that is a negative feature. What a university should do is to introduce students to the real world rather than shepherd them into a bubble. I thrive in urban settings and am galvanized by the possibilities and opportunities. Additionally, the internship and employment opportunities available to GW students are incredible. Having access to hands-on learning in such a diverse and complex city is why I want to go to GW. I am excited to expand my horizon in a way that no other school or environment could allow me to.
