Firstly, this program will provide a great impact on increasing my expertise and skills in business development to craft sustainable business models. Something that I can implement to both the startup company that I will join upon returning to Indonesia and later my own business aggregator for Indonesian local products.

Secondly, the fact that this program will be attended by professionals from around the globe, I will be able to increase business cooperation on international level. On top of that their diverse background will help hone my understanding towards varieties of business streams, which will be a crucial skill to influence SSI owners into joining my business aggregator ventures.

Lastly, I will transfer my knowledge not only to small scale industry (SSI) owners but also to educational institution as early as elementary school. With the growing trend of entrepreneurship in Indonesia, laying a solid entrepreneurial skill and passion as early as possible is equally important to generating the numbers of new ventures in Indonesia. Because later when they grow up they will have not only embodied entrepreneurial values such as perseverance and self confidence, but the long term business mindset set at the back of their mind. Hence, we can increase the quality of venture created in the future.

However the biggest constrain is seeking for SSI to join the business aggregator venture and influencing them to changed the current short-term business practice into long term and sustainable business. In addition to that seeking for funding can also pose a challenge upon achieving my dream as this business model is not yet common in Indonesia.

HOW WILL THE PROPOSED STUDY CONTRIBUTE TO YOUR CAREER?

My lifelong goal is to promote more of Indonesian local brand by creating a business aggregator that can serve as a stepping stone for small scale industries (SSI) to scale up their business. The business concept was simple, first I want to gather Indonesian local product produced by SSI, rebrand and market their products whilst crafting a business model to ensure the longevity of their ventures. Despite not common in Indonesia, I believe this business model will provide a higher chance for SSI to scale up their business size and provide more economical benefit towards Indonesia's GDP.

However, years of working as a brand manager I've never had any formal in class training. All of my past knowledges were gained through hands-on working experience which limited to certain category respective towards my company's business streams. Despite understanding the direct application, I lack the knowledge needed of business model theory, understanding towards diverse range of busines lines, and how to seek funding. Therefore, Master of Commerce will help me achieving my ambition because not only it will help sharpening my experiences through solid business model theories but this program can become my milestone in designing the business aggregator plan, since I'm also planning on taking this case as my final project.

Then, upon returning from my postgraduate degree, I'll work for 1-2 years in startup company. Whilst honing my skill on crafting sustainable business models, I want to gain as much network as possible including seeking for venture capitalist to fund my own venture in SSI business aggregator.

Why Master of Commerce at unsw?

I choose Master of Commerce at The University of New South Wales (UNSW) because it offers a tailored need program for one's career advancement by providing a lot of elective courses since the first semester and ends it with capstone courses that can tie up all the previous learnings into concrete actions. However, what sets UNSW Master of Commerce apart from other programs, is the wide and unique spectrums of 18 specializations that aren't commonly offered in other places including for which students need to elect 2 studies from the options. This unique program include purpose led study of Innovation & Entrepreneurship and tech study of Enterprise System & Business Design, both intersect perfectly with my lifelong dream to promote more of Indonesian local brand by creating a business aggregator for Small Scale Industries (SSI).

Years of working as a brand manager, I've always treated myself as a business owner to actively seeking ways to grow the business. Something I desire to continue doing but on a bigger scale by developing emerging SSI that can directly contribute to Indonesia's economy. However, despite constituting 98% of Indonesian business units only a few micro and small enterprises able to scale up their size due to insufficient understanding towards market access, funding, and including fears towards taxation, which consequently lead to short-term business model. My ambition is to replicate more of Kecap Bango & Indomie's success stories, one of the most sought after local brands that were once MSME's home industry products.

As an alternative, I also choose Master of Enterprise at Melbourne University which offer a similar syllabus with UNSW Master of Commerce Innovation & Entrepreneurship study specialization.
