Scholarship / Teaching experience - Chevening Essay - Leadership and Influence [3]

I am a new member and would greatly appreciate your feedback. Thank you in advance.

LEADERSHIP AND INFLUENCING SKILLS
As a teacher, my main task is to teach pupils for them to understand and learn. With this, I believe it is my duty to push young generation forward to be the foundation for future society. With the experience gained from this noble profession, I aim at serving humanity, believing in my students and never quit trying to increase their level of understanding. I urge students not only to increase knowledge but also raise questions about it.

I succeed to create a culture of collective work in the class within their aptitude on the performance of these tasks since I respect individual differences among students. During summer holidays, I organize summer school for weak students so they can be at par with everyone in the class.

As the head of the writing skills department in my school, I managed to make students love to write in cursive and made them understand how that writing skills would always make them outstanding among their peers in higher school. Every student I have handled for the past six years write in cursive which indeed makes them unique among other students from other schools. Pupils have really developed the love for the writing skill which has become a part of them. And they always stand out as far as writing skills is concerned.

Before the introduction of the new curriculum for basic schools in Ghana, a workshop was organized for all teachers of the schools in the district. In the course of the workshop, each school was tasked with a project. We were to demonstrate how we would use the new curriculum in a form of a drama. I was the leader for my group, after giving each teacher their roles; I realized we were behind time. I quickly thought of a plan and inform them orally what they are to say and guided them with what action to come up with rather than giving each cast a script to memorize. When the time came for us to perform, my team was given the loudest of applaud and was adjudged the best of the day. I was really proud of myself as all my team members kept praising me for the real quick intervention I came up with which earned as the medal.

To recapitulate, being a teacher and the experience gained have improved my planning, management, communication, creativity and problem solving skills which will be beneficial for my career now and in the future. I believe that Chevening will give me more valuable experience and priceless opportunity to meet and share insights with influencers internationally to develop my skills and keep me moving forward in my career.

Scholarship / Chevening Networking Essay - Networking has greatly helped my teaching career. [3]

Hello reader, I'm applying for a Chevening Scholarship and will be grateful to get feedback from my networking essay. Thank you.

the value of networking

As a teacher, being involved with quite a number of parents, going for workshops, symposia, inter-schools competition, among others, create room for networking for me. With this, I have gained a wide knowledge about both education systems and teaching skills from networking.

My first teaching experience was in the year 2012 when I was posted to Christ the King International School to do my national service after my Bachelor's degree. I met with different parents from different backgrounds yet I could relate with each and every one of them in a professional way which earned me a lot of friends among them through which I had a very good job for my junior brother right after his national service. After my national service, I was fully employed as a teacher in the school. I was then made the adult leader of the Girl Guides Club for the lower primary which is the Ananse Guide. Every year, other colleagues in other schools and I organize camping for the girls. This made me got to know a lot of people from different school which I believe gave an opportunity to one of the girls from my school win an award to tour Scotland. I only had to inform the organisers she had always been part of the campers. This is because most of the organisers knew me as one of the adult leaders who train the young girls at the camping centre. In the process, I ended up creating new network because the organisers I knew, spoke so well of me to the unknown ones which made them got in touch with me whenever there was going to be a special event for the Guides.

During my MSc Economics course, I happened to be in the same class with a Member of Parliament in Ghana who became so fond of me just because of my handwriting and my attitude towards work in class. When he got to know I was a teacher, not long after completing the course, I was employed by him to give an extra tuition to his wards at home after they close from school. This gave me an opportunity to meet other Members of Parliament and other high profile members of government since they do meet for discussion in his house often. He needed an extra teacher and I quickly recommended one of my colleagues from work who was employed by him to do the same work as me. This gave both of us some extra income.

From all these usefulness of networking, I believe that I have strong networking skills and I'm always ready to help as the motto of the Ananse Guide goes for members in the Chevening Community to be lead in their chosen profession.

Scholarship / Chevening Study in UK essay. Why I chose these Universities [4]

to be in the business world

Over the course of my education in the University, I had always wanted to be in the business world. Studying Sociology and Economics even gave me more grounding to enter the field of business. I have been in the teaching field after my bachelors degree and now I wish to gain an in-depth understanding of business management. Therefore, a masters in International Business Management would help me gain a broader perspective about how global markets function across all sectors.

Having this in mind, my first choice of school is University of Kent. Ghana's economy shows that we are still open for business skills advancement; achieving MSc International Business Management from Kent University will be a robust foundation for me to apply the latest advancement of business management skills in my country. As this course covers a broad spectrum of business issues, I will be prepared to overcome various business issues in Ghana and create new ideas in the future. Again, the excellent links with other business schools globally will give me the opportunity to gain international working experience. My country, Ghana, has several business deals with developed countries yet, we never get to boom in business as them. I believe the international experience I will gain from this course will aid me help my country in that aspect when I return to my country to work.

At the heart of Ghana's problem and Africa as a whole is not entirely the lack of resources but rather how to formulate and implement good policies, great business skills and good management that effectively maximizes the opportunities globalization presents us. With University of Leeds being ranked 4th in the world and 1st in the UK in the International Business category of the Financial Times Masters in Management rankings, 2018, studying MSc International Business there, I believe can gain me a holistic understanding of business practices as well as strategies involved in managing business and organisations on a global level. Equipped with this knowledge, I would work to implement such effective practices in organisations in my country.

Westminster University is my third choice of school. Apart from the excellent global reputation of this university, the school has designed the MSc International Business Management course in a skillful way which is very much desirable for effective business personnel and leaders in a fast changing global business contest. Again, the courses are designed to advance one's knowledge and develop the analytical and evidence-based skills that are needed in my future professional life. By having a degree in such a course from this school will develop my skills in solving structural business problems in my country.

In conclusion, I believe I can do better in my commitment, that is, to serve Ghana through career. I plan to apply my knowledge and international networks to transform business practices in my country which will help businesses to thrive which will in turn make a positive contribution to the economy.

Scholarship / Chevening Essay - Career Plan. My career plan and how i plan achieving it. [3]

I will greatly appreciate any feedback on my career plan essay for Chevening Scholarship. Thanks in advance.

a job in the government sector, public sector or ngo

The UK government through the DFID is to support reforms to make it easier to do business in Ghana, achieving economic stability and improving the business environment and management of the economy. After completing my masters in the UK, I plan to use my obtained knowledge to help my country to be on top of the list of many developed nations as far as international business is concerned. Obtaining a masters degree in the UK in addition to the already degree I have, it increases my chance to secure a job in the government sector, public sector or any NGO.

With my strong networking skills, I'm going to secure a job even before returning home. My immediate plan is to work with the Central bank. Addition of International Business Management to Economics, I believe working with the central bank will be an opportunity to exhibit and use my knowledge which I will be gradually building my way to be a top policymaker. I can then be creating reforms with my team to make it easier to do business in Ghana as the UK government is doing. Again, with the knowledge acquired from my studies and working with the Central bank, I will help my country to achieve economic stability and improving the business environment just as the UK government is doing in Ghana.

Being a top policymaker at the central bank, it will give me opportunity to make great policies and present them to the government for implementation. I will make policies that will stimulate private investments which will create jobs in Ghana as well as increase opportunities for British and other developed countries investment as Ghana is endowed with numerous viable investment opportunities. Also, these policies will help Ghana's industrialization and economic development which are both critical to strengthening Ghana's economic resilience and unlocking its ambition of moving beyond aid as the UK government is doing.

In the long run, I see myself performing at higher level. Holding an executive role such as the governor of the central bank of Ghana which is a goal I aspire to achieve. Having the knowledge and experience in International business in different discipline, I believe I can bring international investors forward through my vital decisions with strategic consideration of bigger overview.

Since the UK and Ghana government have signed the strategic partnership agreement on economic development and mutual prosperity, it will be an opportunity to help my long term career goals. That is, helping Ghana to be a Launchpad for continental free-trade and gateway to do business with the rest of the world.
