Writing Feedback / Whether there are times when lying is acceptable. [3]

People have different views related the topic whether there are times when lying is acceptable. Some poeple think strongly that lying means a person is mot moral no matter lying for what. Some people, on the other hand, hold that in some cases poeple have no choice but to lie. In my opinion, people can lie when they want to protect innocent people or their family member and when they want to give a people a chance to mend their ways.

To start with, people who lie in order to protect innocent people are more moral than people who do not. In the World War II, many kind-hearted people risked their lives to protect the Jews from Nazi; for instance, they pretend to have Jewish children as their owns. However, there are some people refuse to protect these children or even tell the truth to the Nazi. Obviusly, the former people are more moral even though they lied.

Furthermore, sometimes people lie because of their love to their family member. When a little girl knows her mother killed a person in order to protect her and her mother is the only one she can rely on, will she tell the truth to the police? I reckon that, in great degree, she will not. Besides, if someone criticize the girl's lying, I do not think he/she is a person with conscience.

Ultimately, if it is not a flagrant foul, I think we had better accept lying in order to preserve people's self-respect. Here is a related story. A teacher asked students to be honest concerning who broke the window but no one acknowledged. However, the teacher found the window was fixed on the next morning. Thus, the teacher did not further her investigation because she knew the student lied to preserve his/her dignity in order to not let others know he/she ever did something wrong so that he/she can contine to be a good child. Of course, when a person blunders or intends to make mistakes and trys to conceal what he/she did, we cannot misgive him/her.

In summary, even though lying is mostly not accepted, in cases above we should accept their lying.

Writing Feedback / What government can do to conserve energy resources? [5]

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
Increase the price of gasoline and electricity is the only thing government can do to conserve energy resources.

Many efforts other than raising prices of gasoline and electricity can be made to conserve energy. I notice that there are three alternative means that can be used by government including exploring new energy resource, raise public consciousness, and form partnerships with industries and nongovernmental organizations.

To start with, government can invest money to like solar energy, nuclear power and wind energy. Electricity-producing solar technology is a very good choice for government's investment because the costs of it are more competitive with conventional electrical generating technology.Besides, solar energy can be used for space and water heating, and the costs are also low. Like solar energy , nuclear power is also not expensive . It costs the same as coal, and it produces large amounts of energy from small amounts of fuel. Different from the above two, a utility wind energy project requires large capital investment. However, because the wind turbines require no fuel, operating costs of wind farms are generally low.

Furthermore, government can raise public consciousness of energy conservation. There are at lease , in my opinion, two measures that can be taken by government. One is to enhance media coverage. Make recurring media coverage of government's energy conservation campaign to introduce energy saving methods and best practices. Moreover, publicize adverse effects of energy wasting to motivate people to participate in energy conservation.Another method is to establish related web-sites. Make information, regarding the outcome of international related conferences, the adverse effects and consequences of energy wasting, and what public can do for energy conservation, available at these web-sites.

Ultimately, government can form partnerships with industries and nongovernmental organizations to enhance the effectiveness of measures for energy conservation. In my opinion, government can do it from the following three angles. First is to use tax rebates as a means to attract companies in energy conserving products like energy-efficient car, electricity saving lamp and energy conservation refrigerator. Second is to provide free technical and practical guidance for companies. Take the house building industry. This guidance will be helpful to upgrade new houses to improve the energy performing. Third is to work with organizations that are opening up energy saving show homes to visitors.

In summary, Increase the price of gasoline and electricity is not the only thing government can do to conserve energy resources. Government can also invest in new energy resources, enhance public awareness, and work with industries and organizations.

We've always been a very close group of children, and the solid moral foundation thatbecausewhat my parents have established in our household has influenced us to stick together and always be there for one another.

They've sacrificed a great amount of time and resources to ensure my siblings and I with the best opportunities available.

Throughout the years, I've been lucky enough to experience several teachers who have influenced a shift in my academic interests.

Besides some very little grammer mistakes, your work is good. And you have well answered the prompt.

Scholarship / Why do you think people attend college or university (a necessary step in the life)? [4]

People attend college or university for many different reasons (for example, new experiences, career preparation, increased knowledge). Why do you think people attend college or university? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

For most people, attending university or college is a necessary step in the life. They attend university or college to acquire knowledge, to prepare for future career, to gain experiences, and so on. I attend university to prepare for my future career, and I think that most people around me also attend university and college in order to be more competitive. I hold this view because of my own purpose and the condition of modern society.

After all, I had alldid nothing but dragged two of my friends to my home and declared that my brother was having a birthday party, resulting in my mother scrambling to bake a cake.

Writing Feedback / The knowledge we acquire outside of school is the most important. [2]

Some people think that we learn our most important lessons in school. Others think that the knowledge we acquire outside of school is the most important. Which view do you agree with? Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.

Nowadays, there are two opinions concerning the importance of school. While some hold that our most important lessons are learned from school, others reckon that people gain most useful knowledge outside of school. In my opinion, although school plays an important role in people's acquirement of knowledge, people acquire the most important knowledge from their social experiences because social experiences can help us to apply knowledge learned from school to practical experience, to obtain practical ability and to learn from many people.

To start with, even though life in school offers most people the first chance to know about social life because we start to learn how to be with people outside of family, we need to employ these communication skills to act more politically in the society. For instance, we may get into some trouble in school so we need to explain the situation to the person who is in charge, and during the process to solve it, we develop our communication ability. Yet, when we get into the society, situation will be more complex; for example, the boss will be much stricter than the professor. Thus, not only do we need to apply the ability we acquire from school, but we also need to improve it.

Furthermore, the practical ability is most significant for us, although without knowledge from school we can not read, neither can we understand literal and art works, neither can we understand well educated people's talk. The reason is that no matter what we learn, we just want to be more competitive when we get into the society to hunt for a job, and when we are hunting for jobs, the employers focuse on our ability to come up with fresh ideas, to carry out plans and to solve problems. However, to a great degree, the abilities above are developed in the process of social practices. For instance, nearly everyone having graduated from advertisement major knows how to design an advertisement, while people who can grasp quickly what the manufactures want to express and can make the advertisement attracting to the customers will be more competitive.

Lastly, we can learn from people outside of school. Parents teach us to be patient; salesmen we meet in public occasions teach us how to introduce commodity to people; servants in hospital, restaurants, resorts, and so on teach us how to know what customers need sensibly. All these above are very important for us to have big personal success in the future.

According to what I have mentioned above, people learn most important lessons not from school but from places out of it.

Undergraduate / Mexican Drug Violence and Myself. UT Austin app essay B [7]

The summer of 2007 was the summer going into freshman year, and I was finally old enough to attend the mission trip I hadlookedbeen looking forward to for years.

There were two shifts,---- setting up the bunk beds, and working Vacation Bible School.

I was helping her use some scissors and trying to converse with her in my broken Spanish when I realized that we were there to improve her life, even if it was just giving her a bed of her own to sleep inon .

We were approached by feral dogs, covered inwith fleas, searching for morsels of food.

I am still not quite sure what I was expecting, but I was shocked to see that these "homes" were one room spaces made from dried mud, cardboard, and sheets of plywood.

They had no windows, no bathrooms, and their front doors consisted of a piece of PVC pipe and an old ratty shower curtain hanging from it.

After about an hour of fussing with screwing pieces together, and squeezing in and out of the stuffy room, we had successfully assembled our first bunk bed.

The expression on the young mother' s face brought tears to my eyes. She was so thankful that we could help her growing family without anything in return.

To the "drug lords", life has nois of no value.

The violence that is fifteen miles away from my house, has significantly affected me because I live in the United States' second safest city.

The border is very secure, but stray bullets have traveled far enough to hit the University of Texas at El Paso and our City Hall.

FromFor the safety of the United States, I am still able to do little things like donatedonating items to the Juárez orphanages.

The essay is well organized. The main problem is grammer, and you have used too many commas while some of them are of no use. Good luck. You are a nice person.

Writing Feedback / The importance of students' sports activities [3]

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Universities should give the same amount of money to their students' sports activities as they give to their university libraries. Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.

As we all know, sports activities and university libraries are both very important for students' development. And universities should invest money to ensure students have enough sports activities and read books they need. However, universities should give more money to students' sports activities than they give to their university libraries because students will benifit more from sports than from books, sports activities need more money,

To start with, students learn more positive spirits from sports activities than from libraries. Through participation in sports activities, students learn teamwork, sportsmanship, winning and losing, the rewards of hard work, self-discipline, build self-confidence, and develop skills to handle competitive situations. These are qualities that students need to become responsible adults and productive citizens. For instance, sports participants may be more responsble to study so they will get better scores than general students. Books can offer stories about these spirits but mostly students still can not know what they really means without their own experiences. Thus, it is more important for universities to invest in students' sports activities than to invest in universities libraries.

Furthermore, sports activities need more money than libraries do. Universities need to hire coaches for each sport team. Participating in various games also needs money to supply the transportation, food, housing and costumes for teammates. As to libraries,it is certain that they need money to buy new books and hire people to take charge of the them but the cost will be smaller. Overall, sports activities need more money than libraries do.

Ultimately, universities will benefit more from investment on students' sports activities than it is from investment on university libraries. Take Ivy League. As we all know, Ivy League is a athletics union. Universities among it become famous because of their outstanding students' sports activities. In addition, generally, students participating sports are more sociable and have better scores so most of them will get better achievements than average students. It is well known that many celebrities ever in university sports teams not only become the honor of the universities but also donate money to the universities. Overall investment on students' activities benefit universities both from fame and from capital, which is much more competitive than investment on university libraries.

In summary, investment on students' sports activities are both more beneficial for students and universities themselves, and are more necessary than investment on libraries.

Writing Feedback / Government should sponsor to build up museum and theatre . [4]

Do you agree or disagree with the statement that government should invest on museum and theatre?

As to whether government should sponsor on museum and theatre, the public hold different opinions. Some of them argue that government should invest on material industies that can develop poeple's life level. On the other hand, the others hold that life level includes both material level and mental level, which museum and theatre' construction will be helpful to improve. In my opinion investment on museum and theatre will help the growth of job an economy, will enrich people's public life, and will be helpful for cultural industry's development.

First of all, people may benefit from government's investment on museum and theatre, because they may get comercial profit and jobs from it. Since the construction need building materials, many related industries may benefit profit from the construction. Also, museums and theatres need workers to build, to watch, to guide visitors, to preserv and so on. These jobs will provide many job opportunities to the citizens. For example, people visiting the theatre would like to get a introduction about the the theatre on play today, so the theatre may offer a booklet, which will expand the bussiness of press and will need people to distribute them to the visitors.

Secondly, people's life will be enriched by museum and theatre. On family days, parents can take children to museum. Not only can they share time togather, but also they may know more about arts, history, and science. As to theatre, a beautiful theatre can lead people to another world, which let people relax. For instancd, a Chinese Opera may offer audience a chance to know Chinese costumes, Chinese music, and Chinese makeup.

Lastly, the construction of museum and theatre may let work of art and theatre performance have more alternative space to show. In addition, museums and theatres operated by government will make the price more competitive so that start-up artists and performers be able to show more of their works. Thus, building up theatre and museum will encourage the development of creative industries.

In summary, economic, public life, and cultural industries will all benefit from the construction of theatre and museum, so it is better for the government to choose to build up theatre and museum.

Writing Feedback / New viewpoints, motivation, enthusiasm and concectration are needed in early education of a child [8]

Art,music, and drama should be basic subject.

In some schools art, music, and drama are as a part of every child's basic education ,while in others they are not. I hold that art, music, and drama are as important as subjects like mathematic, philosophy, and language. There are three reasons I would like to name.

Firstly, arts, music and drama learning is good for students' personal development. It is closely linked to academic achievement that parents want for their children, because involvement in the arts is associated with gains in math, reading, cognitive ability, critical thinking, and verbal skill. Besides, arts, music and drama learning is linked to children's social and emotional development. Actually, the intrinsic pleasures and stimulation of the art experience do more than sweeten an individual's life. Arts learning can improve motivation, concentration, confidence, and teamwork. It can connect people more deeply to the world and open them to new ways of seeing, creating the foundation to forge social bonds and community cohesion.

Secondly, strong arts programming in schools helps close a gap that has left many a child behind. From Mozart for babies to tutus for toddlers to family trips to the museum, the children of affluent, aspiring parents generally get exposed to the arts whether or not public schools provide them. Low-income children, often, do not. Arts education enables those children from a financially challenged background to have a more level playing field with children who have had those enrichment experiences.

Thirdly, it is time to make art, music, and drama as part of what all schools should teach, for arts education has been slipping for several decades, which will make the nation impoverished in immeasurable ways. Education focusing on reading and math, with pressure to raise test scores, has reduced classroom time devoted to the arts. The result of tight budgets, an ever-growing list of state mandates have crammed the classroom curriculum. And public widely view that the arts are lovely but not essential.

In summary, making art, music, and drama as part of every child's education will be helpful for children's personal development, will narrow the gap between low-income children and children with enrichment experiences, and will, in some degree, change the reality that arts education is slipping.

The assignment's prompt is do you agree or disagree with the statement "subject as art, music, and drama should be a part of every child's basic education".
